Page McConnell (BA RUP '87) booked Phish for the 1985 Annual Springfest at Goddard. Following the show he approached the band and asked if he could join and shortly afterwards he did. Thanks to a recruitment program to fight dwindling enrollment at Goddard, Page got $50 each for getting Trey Anastasio and Jon Fishman (BA RUP '90) to transfer from UVM to Goddard.
Page completed his senior study, "The Art of Improvisation," in 1987. Trey's senior study, "The Man Who Stepped Into Yesterday," was completed in 1988. Fishman submitted his thesis, "A Self-Teaching Guide to Drumming Written in Retrospect," in 1990.

So glad that Goddard College could provide an outlet for this guy. I know tons of people who, like Trey, didn’t fit the mold of more traditional schools and were able to complete their degrees on their own terms through Goddard!

Almost brought me to tears. I've heard 'Miss You" a couple of times live and you can see and hear the love in Trey's voice.

I found this original VHS tape buried in the Goddard College Library Archive in 2004; watched about 4-5 graduation ceremonies until I stumbled upon Trey’s. Plainfield Living Legend Willis Pratt makes a cameo at the end. Glad to see it finally made the light of day!

It's really amazing to watch this. Huge props to Lois Harris, and Goddard College, for genuinely standing there in awe and support. It is amazing to hear "Gamehedge" explained, in the rawest form, with the most unbiased and supporting means ever, having no idea that it would go on to what it would. Always believe and support in everyone. They definitely read the book.

Truly appreciate this vid trey is such an inspiration and one of the most amazing musicians to grace this earth and it shows people knew it back in 88 and today he’s a living legend long live trey and phish!!!!

Interesting video. I was in my first week of college on this day in 1988 a short drive away at Lyndon State. A year later I'd go to my first Phish show...little did I know what a journey I had just started.
