In the last 2+ years my focus has shifted back to endurance training via long-distance cycling (Mountain & Road). Stopped biking and only powerlifted for 10+ years but got back on the bike again and realized how much I love it. I'll be 45 in a month & my endurance is thru the roof. That said, I've struggled with balancing resistance training & have lost a lot of strength and mass. I know it's due to improper nutrition off the bike & in general not eating enough protein. I don't want to look like a road biker but riding is addictive even tho very catabolic. I'm trying to find the balance between the two passions.

Just tried Good mornings yesterday with weight. We used to do them in CrossFit with PVC pipes as a stretch. I feel it in lower back and hamstrings today. I could have gone heavier but wanted to see what recovery was like at this level. It is an awkward moment… but sometimes the gym needs awkward. 😂 I put it on leg day so I could recover and do deadlifts and lower back extensions on back day.

I'm 27, lifetime drug free, been competing in IPF for 7 years. I hold the total record (837.5) for Hungary, as well as deadlift (350.5). I compete in 105-, and for me, the main goal is to podium on an international competition, then health, then aesthetics. I am quite lean naturally so I don't think that would change a lot unless I went to 120+. I've learned to not purely chase numbers anymore, although 900 total@105 sounds amazing. I try and focus on "what would the world champion do in my shoes", and just act every single day like that. If you act like a world champion with their consistency, it's the best thing you can do to become as close as you can to that! Apart from all that, if I didn't have as good genetics for the sport, I still love the community. So even if I got completely put out of powerlifting, I'd referee/hang out at the gym to hype people up.

Hey Pete! Over a period of not working out and only riding my bike my knuckle issue resolved itself. As a new form of exercise last Oct I started going to Muay Thai/Boxing classes and eventually Jiujitsu. Strength being put on the back burner as speed and endurance are much more important. Eventually, I started running to improve my cardio and continue to track my progress as I go from 9:30 mile to around 7 minutes currently. In terms of cardio, I try to focus on explosive short sprints and sprinting up hills rather than distance as I go in between classes and time is limited. Incorporating strength training was difficult to juggle in with training in the gym as much as possible and running as my body would get to sore. However, for the past several months have I been able to start consistently strength training. The goal being prepared for a MMA fight sometime next year in terms of not just physically but also with technique. 1. Health - started going to the gym to get exercise and fit outside the dungeon. Working out for strength became an addon to being able to stay as injury free as possible and helping with recovery. Time outside the gym sessions was focused on stretching/recovery exercises from the physio, improving speed/agility or hitting the heavy bag. 2. Strength - being able to move heavier weighs with greater ease always helps, but with more focus on speed and explosiveness. However, as I got the ball rolling again in terms of being fit again, I have now added more strength training trying to get 2 bench/upper body accessories and one leg day per week. Still struggling to fit leg days in and being able to kick the subsequent days therefore only able to get back to I was with deadlifts, squats are lagging, but bench is blowing up as I am using my arms so frequently. 3. Athsetics - The harder you train the better you will look and isn't a focus. Want to get as lean as possible to stay as light as I can rather than looking good.

I love the channel. You're transformation has been very impressive!! I wish i would have known way more about nutrition when i was younger, now in the best shape of my life at 45, not as strong as my 20s, but i have a more balanced package of aesthetics and strength. I just want to be strong and healthy. I find poeebuolding has been great, a couple heavy compound exercises coupled with lots of accessories for hypertrophy, its getting results and its a fun way to train. I've heard you say a couple times now you are going to cycle in creatine, is there a benefit to not being on creatine on a regular basis?

Definitely a hybrid focus now I’m approaching 50. 210lbs+ seems to be my tipping point for BP. If I go above 210, regardless of how much lean mass, my BP goes 130/85+. There is a lot of metabolic gold to be had in the HRZ 2 zone… walking and light rucking.
@peterubishfitness
@peterubishfitness 3 күн бұрын
That's about how I am brother. Even with cardio, if I get heavy enough, the BP goes up. 40 mgs Telmisartan has helped a bit though!

Been focusing on Powerlifting recently however I feel my quality of life has decreased, I am heavier than I really want to be and my cardio is practically nonexistent. Sure I move heavier weights than I ever have but honestly I don't see the point in it. I don't earn my money with PL and it has gotten to a point where my life is better without such a rigid approach. So my new goal is to keep some form of general strength training & also train for a half marathon. I achieved most of my PL goals anyways, the only thing I would eventually like to do is Deadlift 300kg (660lbs) which I got fairly close to. However it is not important enough for me to prioritize it over other things in life or my general well being.

I'm going for the same thing more or less. Used to be a serious amateur cyclist back in the day, but had to quit due to back injuries. That's when I discovered deadlifts, cured my back. But I really miss the feeling of being in high end cardiovascular shape. Miss the feeling of how my body felt like a well oiled machine with a cardiovascular engine that just hummed along and I could rev the engine at will. I think there are some things you keep from this. I can easily go out and jog without any training, but my feet will go to putty unless I give it time to strengthen. Right now I'm focusing on building strength and some mass, but defiantly will return to my roots in endurance training. If I were to bet on the health returns I suspect that endurance training will give way more in terms of health, but strength is also important in the long run without a doubt.
