Good question, you can use any emulsion with any light. There will only be a variation in exposure times. It is optimized for LED exposure units but can be used with any other type of exposure unit.

@screenprintdirect
@screenprintdirect Ай бұрын
Well, it really depends on what you are printing, just because you are using something that high doesn't mean you will get the best quality print. Every type of artwork will require its own type of mesh. If you aren't printing photo realistic images there most likely is no reason to use that high of a mesh.

What's up SPD. I got some powder and some transfer sheets from you all. I have a DTG printer as well so I'm accustomed to manual powder applications. However, I can't get the powder off of these transfer sheets even with my shaker set up. There's always some residue and that carries over to dark garments. Any advice on how to apply the powder to ink and then get off film completely? Thanks!

Hi guys, sorry to hear you are having issues with your emulsion. Just from what you are describing we can tell you the emulsion is under exposed. Also, what type of ink are you using? For very beginner friendly emulsions we would recommend G2 Grey or Tex-Red/Blue. If you are printing with water-based inks, we would recommend PWR

Is UV light also counted, as black light?
@screenprintdirect

Thats a really good question! So yes and no, there are different light wave lengths so certain UV black lights that make colors glow or fluorescent under them are not the proper wavelength to cure emulsion.

i know it varies, but roughly what is the exposure time for this emulsion ? also how long do let your screen dry before exposing an image into it?
@screenprintdirect
@screenprintdirect Ай бұрын
It can be anywhere from 20-30 seconds to 7-8 minutes it depends what type of light source you specifically are using. As far as screen drying there is no set time. That will vary as well. Is your climate humid, dry? Is it stored in a place with air flow that will help speed up dry time? It really varies a lot.

There are no set dry times on any emulsion on the market. Once its dry its dry it can be an hour it can be days. It depends on things like the climate you live in, how you have it stored, how many coats did you apply? Exposure time depends it as well can be anywhere from 30 seconds to 8 minutes it depends on what light source you are using. To make it easier every emulsion we sell has different exposure units and times for those types of lights on the product listing on our website. Hope this helps!
@screenprintdirect
@screenprintdirect Ай бұрын
It is going to depend on the type of exposure unit you are using. Very few units will be able to expose it properly in 5 seconds. If you go to the product listing on the website it will give you several exposure unit examples with the times it can roughly take for them.

If you go on the website to the product itself there will be more details of different lights and times to expose it at.

Thats a good idea! For now, just so you know the screen you want to use for this type of printing is a low mesh count somewhere around 60-80 mesh count and a higher viscosity emulsion (thicker) so it can build up layers easier.

It never tells you what exposure time to start at. Nowhere on your website, in the emulsion, or in the meter strip. I have never done this before lmao. 1 second? 1 minute? 1 hour? I don’t feel like guessing
@screenprintdirect
@screenprintdirect Ай бұрын
Thats a good question but the thing is everyone is using a different emulsion, different layers coated, different mesh count and different exposure units. Due to these variables, we can't give you a time to start at because some people may start at 7 minutes and go from there and others may start at 30 seconds and go from there. here is a blog on a step by step which should help: shorturl.at/RZ8F1

Check: - that the emulsion did not cure while drying, this is a light safe issue - the emulsion is not expired, could point to product/shelf stability issue (check manufacturers notes) Try washing a screen out after it has dried, but before exposing it, I know it sounds like a waste. But this is a dead giveaway if it’s a product issue or exposure issue. - the emulsion wasn’t mixed properly with an activator, scrape all sides and bottom, constantly folding. - exposure times, too much exposure can cure through the black ink of your film. - poor quality printer ink or film, this could mean the ink is not opaque enough on the film or the film is not holding enough ink (try 2 layers of film) - light source is too powerful, try exposing for far less time - the screen is being exposed on the opposite side, try placing non-reflective, black cardstock or a blanket on the opposite side of the screen to reduce reflected light curing the opposite side of your screen More often than not it’s just expired emulsion or user error and does not usually require equipment replacement. Let me know if I have to clarify anything!
@screenprintdirect
@screenprintdirect 5 ай бұрын
All really good tips. The majority of the time it does come down to user error. Keep in mind that our ready to use emulsions have a shelf life of around 12 months if you store them properly. Thanks for jumping in and helping out.
