Hi Jess - you had a video on the app Vela. I Copied my Etsy shop to Shopify using Vela - but I'm a print on demand seller using Printify. So when I copied it - Vela puts all new sku numbers that do not match up with sku in printify. Is there a way to migrate them.

I recently purchased $7,000 in jewelry from a shop in Turkey. I’m in the USA. Everything seemed normal, including great communication from seller, until the shop simply vanished a few days later. Etsy immediately escalated the situation and within 48 hours Etsy refunded me in full. I thankfully did not use PayPal, which would have tied Etsy’s hands forcing me to go through PayPal for help where I would have been required to wait several weeks to give the order a chance to arrive in the mail before I could even open a case. I have since purchased several pieces of high end jewelry on Etsy because I know now from experience they will protect me if something goes wrong. I understand the frustration of genuine sellers, and also understand Etsy’s need to protect buyers.

Hey Jess - if i am an artist and want to make more of a Print Demand style business until i can get a full studio open ...do you feel like Etsy is good for that? Spam sucks and I want to make real stuff with a message - but i have 1 room to live in and no big studio space at this time. Its always something i've put off because i cant go 100% ...tired of waiting. - ultimate question - will Etsy not appreciate my art & try to push me off? Should i go to a different place? THX!

Thanks for this frank discussion, Jess! It’s definitely a tough time for balancing the household budget on even established income, but I like what you say about using the time to learn and practice. I think too that diversifying your income streams, the way you yourself have done for example, also adds financial resilience, so there’s some value there in starting a new business (inexpensively) right now as well. Glad you and Nick have been continuing to manage alright thus far!

As a person with an addictive personality, the older I get the more I realize how important it is to get rid of the small, addictive habits, and substances that I consume. For example, the only time that I went through being sober was the time that I told myself that I was never going to drink ever again. Every time I made the exception of only drinking on holidays or special occasions, then, I fell out of my sobriety. I've been sober for a year and four months now and I don't make any exceptions with alcohol and now I want to experiment the same with caffeine. I recently did the same thing with my P*rn habit where I just came to the conclusion that I can't do this ever again. I can't ever partake in this habit ever again, no exceptions, and I'm okay with that because my life quite frankly is a lot better without that harmful substance in my life. (P.S. I'm also 1 month and 1 week clean from P*rn also known as PMO). Here's to quitting caffeine. Mainly, coffee, sodas, candy, and energy drinks. I'll be experimenting with getting my energy from cold showers and a workout in the morning (I'm thinking about jump rope) and fasting during the day.

Etsy lowers your brand perception unlike amazon. Big brands have their own shop on amazon but not on etsy. Imagen if they would do that. Their perceived brand value would drop immediately IMO

Hi Jess, I am currently working with a friend selling some higher priced lumber on Etsy, our store is called WallcraftWood. We are currently running ads as much as we can through Etsy, but haven't seen much spend at all on these. When Etsy does show it, the ads do well, but Etsy seems to only spend roughly $115 a month which is barely anything considering we are trying to spend $100 per day across 19 listings. I am currently working on improving our SEO, which hopefully will help, but do you have any recommendations on how to get our ads picked up by the algorithm? Thank you!

It was nice to see another creative introvert :) I also find it difficult to attend markets, so I do it only a few times a year. What I try to focus on as a main benefit is that during a market I can make a direct connection with my customers. Those type of people who appreciate my works are somewhat similar minded and market is a great opportunity to meet such people. Where I live there are a lot of visitors from all around the word during summer, so at a craft market I can meet with similar minded people from literally all around the world. It's also great to have direct feedback on my works, to see that people appreciate my creations in person not just through comments or likes on social media. So altogether a market can give me a huge boost to keep going.

i want to sell something that is heavy and will ship out in 5 seperate BOX sections , each one weighing aprox 22 pounds each box.. Am i going to be charged much more because of the 5 individual boxes as compared to just one large box ?

I opened a shop last summer. I was immediately suspended with no reason. Just got a few bot emails that you couldnt reply to. They have no customer service. Shortly after that they got sued for withholding money from shops, etc. Never again will i use them!

I find it intriguing that you group resellers and scammers together in your statement. How do you justify equating resellers with scammers? They are not the same. If that were true, then all major retailers would be considered scammers, wouldn't they? There are resellers operating legitimate accredited businesses. We own multiple brands and businesses, and we offer products under our own brands sourced from labs, manufacturers, and suppliers. These are authentic, federally-registered products and brands. Could you elaborate on how you came to the conclusion that resellers are synonymous with scammers?

I've been resisting going back to Instagram to promote my new handmade business, but everyone insists it's The Only Way. A couple of weeks ago I bit the bullet and tried to create an account, only to have it instantly deactivated for 'violating their terms' in some way (I hadn't even logged in once!). It's a sign, and I really hate the platform, so Pinterest it is. But, here's something I find frustrating as a private Pinterest user at the moment -I often find items I'd actually like to buy or find out more about, only to click and find no info about the pin's original source. It happens a lot. Is it a good idea to watermark photos, or something, to make them traceable back to the shop? Anyway, thanks for the video, I'll check out your others on the subject :)

My Etsy account has been put on Holiday Mode by etsy. How can I remove it? I've tried to remove it, but Etsy is not showing the button. I went to go Settings > Options > Holiday Mode, but couldn't find the Off and On buttons displayed there. Can you please advise me on what to do?

Ive done this twice. The first time landed me in the hospital because I was drinking upwards of 2 pots of coffee a day and now I'm doing it again. But one thing I would advise is give yourself a treat. If you've made it 2 weeks without caffine then give yourself a small soda. Drinking decalf helps just because it gives you the flavor of coffee when you really need it but you won't be braking your caffine fast. I'm saying drink a cup once a week when you really need that placebo effect. As a reward. It's not going backwards. What is going backwards is having it every day to ease symptoms. But I've done that this time around. I've been with out soda for 3 months and without any caffine for 2 weeks. Today I had a small soda like the kind you give kids just as a reward well done. My mother came over for a few days and I had some decalf coffee with her. But that was what I told myself I would allow while she was here then it was back off of it. Making goals like that such as you made it to your month mark of not having some. Have one and enjoy it. Then get to your next half month mark and try some again. After a while you won't want it as a reward. I've replaced milk for my coffee and sometimes that's what I want rather than it. I know its really hard. But you can do it and so can i.

How do you only work 4 days with a busy Etsy shop? No way could I keep up with orders, packing, shipping in even 5 days!
