📚 Your Year to Thrive Course: youryeartothrive.com
I’ve attended a LOT of handmade markets & shows over the last 15 years - both as a vendor and as a customer.
Today, I’m going to cover some do's and don’ts when it comes to actually SELLING on the day!
I often see vendors making these mistakes, and every time I wish I could go up to them and let them know that they’re losing sales (but that would just be weird, right - I don’t know that they’d appreciate it :D).
SO - here’s me, sharing those tips with you today, in the hope that you don’t make these mistakes at your future markets.
💡 If you enjoy this video, please consider giving me a thumbs up, and make sure to subscribe if you'd love more content on having a thriving and profitable handmade business, and a happy & healthy work-from-home lifestyle.
Thanks for your support!
Jess :)

Another no-no for me is not having prices on your items. I do a few markets a year and I have seen lots of fellow market stallholders lose out on sales because they have no visible pricing. There are quite a few people who will not feel comfortable asking the price and I have lost count of the number of times I have seen customers walk away from a neighbour's stall and then heard them say, "There are no prices on anything, let's go somewhere else".

YES! Such an important point!

Agreed! And I’d also add that people don’t read. I price each individual item AND have a little sign with prices and people still ask 😊

As someone who does almost all my shows by myself, if a couple customers don’t understand that people eat, then I don’t need their business. As a customer, I don’t care about any of these “do not does”. If I want something, I will buy it regardless of whether they are eating or not.

I am 100% with you. As another small business owner, I get that we wear many hats, and we often work alone. Sometimes, you gotta eat.

I usually have to eat too, because I don’t have help. I always bring snacks like Jess says, or I cut up a sandwich into 4 small pieces so I can grab a piece between customers.

Great video! As a customer, I would also add to the point about the shop owner not acknowledging you while they’re helping someone else, sometimes I’ll see one shopper who just dominates the shop person’s time just to chat with them but not buy while others are waiting (not so) patiently. Shop owners need to know when to cut them short to help a person who is there and ready to buy.

Great information. I have also found to not stand behind the table. By in front and open to conversation and sales.

Yes, please let the customer guide the conversation and read the room! I was at a market once, and the seller handed me a mug he made and said "Isn't that a nice handle?" It was so awkward and weird, I put it down and left immediately.

I usually stand, however, I sit during slow times ( no customers) at the market especially after several hours.

Fantastic tips! Thanks so much! I have a market coming up that I do with my two friends from high school. We do one booth with 3 different crafts. I tend to be the greater and my friends jump in in someone us retested in their wares. Sharing this video with them. Thanks again. ❤
