I live near "Pastor Greg" and unfirtunately his ideas are VERY common around here. I cannot go to church without a sermon being directed at me personally since my disabilities are visible and obvious. I detect a note of elitism in Joel Webbon's presentation. I don't blame it on Calvinism, but rather a one-kingdom, post- millennial, theonomic outlook. The theonomy is most troubling.

This is disturbing. I will say one thing though - I've been listening to Doug Wilson for about a couple of years now, and I've never heard any of this kind of stuff from him (in fact, I've heard explicit condemnation of racism in all sorts of forms). He has a section on his website addressing the slavery controversy. And most importantly, he regularly preaches Christ. I've sadly hardly heard Joel preach Christ. I'm not saying he doesn't, but Doug Wilson clearly sounds like a pastor and a minister of Jesus Christ in whatever circumstance, whereas Joel often sounds more like a political commentator. I find it slightly unfair to put them together in the same boat (though I understand as they do have associations and also Doug Wilson does not explicitly reject Stephen Wolfe, another racist-sounding guy).

I'm really wonder what his point was in bringing up Lord of the rings in the first place. It seems almost just an unhinged ramble. To be fair I don't exactly think he's being racist implicitly or explicitly. It seems all the point was about was "having nobility is generational and theater kids who run things now don't have that" it's a bad piece of preaching, but I don't think it's racist.

One society can be better than another via objective morality... that does not mean that anyone is without need of God's grace.

You got to watch it before just dumping on it, brother. Its a really good show, held my attention, made me cry a few times, and the acting is awesome. Its not the same Mid-west Christian films that keep pumping out like propaganda. It is a well-written show, with good actors, decent effects, and tells an incredible story. Believe it or not, the story of Jesus is a wondrous one.

As the show has 9.2/10 rating and watching this post, I was skeptical too. I am not really that religious but watching every episode up to season 4 made me open my eyes. The fact that you haven’t “checked it out,” threw out your credibility. Disappointing.
