My oral is 4 hours for Private Pilot Check-ride. Everything outlined above is in ACS is tons of information. Also, my DPE states you need it by memory. You are not allowed to look up anything up in the FAR-AIM. No looking up anything. The Oral is way more difficult than the written exam. The DPE will try to trip you up to state something incorrect. If you get an answer incorrect, than the DPE will go down an audit trail. If you fail a question, more than two questions, you will fail your oral. Yes, be scared of your oral. It's not fun at all.

Sounds like you have an extremely militaristic DPE. I would bet money he actually did serve in the military. Definitely the worst kind of DPE to get. Feels like they have something to prove with every question, I’ve been there man. But this is not the case for all, DPE’s and I would say the high majority of them are not that strict. Also being able to reference the FAR/AIM is a crucial skill, there are thousands of paragraphs of verbiage that apply to you as a student/ private, and I hate to say it but you’re not memorizing all of it, and that’s where being able to reference the regulations quickly comes in handy. Now I do think it’s best that DPE’s are very strict to be honest, while it may suck while you’re trying to get your own license. There’s been too many incidents lately, and I believe we can crack down on the amount of incidents and accidents if we are constantly keeping our standards high, as a strict DPE may do. That being said, it’s also important that your DPE is being fair, I’ve heard stories from women pilots around me about DPE’s seemingly treating them differently, whether that be, giving them a harder time, giving them an easier time, either way, it’s not right, and if you feel your DPE is going to make your life hard simply because he doesn’t like you, or has something to prove, or has to make sure his pass rate is where he wants it… I highly highly recommend finding a different DPE as hard as it may be. But if he’s just harsh, while fair, I wish you good luck.

@@Simpli-FlyIt Yep, the DPE stated that he did serve in the military. And yes, I do not think he likes woman. He did give me a hard time also. We have very few DPE's. Also, I did work hard to know my FAR-AIM and I have it tabbed and can find information quickly. My FAR-AIM looks like it's been ran over by a truck. However, my DPE said put it away as you can not fly with a FAR-AIM. I fly in southern CA. We have some of the worst weather - Turbulence,Thunderstorms, Fog, rain, high heat, strong winds and the list goes on and on. We have the most traffic, most crowded airspace.

Can you make a new video about efb, or someone comment and help me out. I have a check ride next week and was wondering if the new may acs update allowed ForeFlight and also allowing the pilot to keep gps and breadcrumbs on allowing us to use it like a back up gps instrument. A lot of my CFIs say that the new version legally allowed ForeFlight to be a nav log
@Simpli-FlyIt
@Simpli-FlyIt 10 күн бұрын
Yes I can make a KZfaq short about it and if I don’t I’ll just reply to you here. I have to do some research just in case, but the short answer is make a paper navlog anyway. Even if the new rules do allow for using foreflight, it really depends on your DPE. If your DPE is an old guy, and wants to be old school, and tells you he wants a paper navlog, and you show up with an iPad and say “technically in the rules I can use this instead of the navlog” Even if that DPE can’t technically nail you for that, he won’t like you not having a navlog. So you’ll have to be perfect everywhere else or he’ll just ding you for something else you didn’t do well on, where maybe he usually would’ve let you slide, if you had a good paper navlog. Again, this depends on your examiner, and I would recommend as soon as you find out who your examiner is, to contact them via text or email so you can be sure of what their expectations are. Just introduce yourself, and ask them in an email your questions like; - Do you want a paper navlog? Or is foreflight okay with you? - what airport would you like our flight plan to go to? Etc… This might seem like kind of an unfair way things are run, where even though the rules say one thing, the examiners can somewhat do another, but it’s the system we’ve been given, and we have to play it. Again though, I’m going to do some research, and find out what the technical answer is, and I hope you have a DPE that’s cool with using foreflight, as it’s a much better option in basically every way possible lol.

Great video - love the series! I didn't know exactly how the tach timer worked and that was really cool info. The only question I have is @5:22. I thought it was acceptable to own your own plane, hire a CFI to provide instruction, and NOT require the 100hr inspection as the owner/operator is not the one making money (per 91.409 "...no person may give flight instruction for hire in an aircraft which that person provides..."). I could be wrong in my reading of the section. That being said, I would probably not exceed 100hrs most years so an annual would take care of that.
@Simpli-FlyIt
@Simpli-FlyIt 16 күн бұрын
I’m glad I can help!! And Yes I worded that poorly. I said that with the assumption you’re at a flight school, but if you buy your own plane and hire a flight instructor, you do not need the 100hr inspection. You can see why they’d make it that way too, if you’re an operator responsible for others safety, you need the 100hr. If you’re just your own guy, hiring an instructor who’s responsible for his own safety, it’s not necessary.

Loving these videos as my checkride approaches. One recommendation though…lose the background music. It’s a bit distracting
@Simpli-FlyIt
@Simpli-FlyIt 16 күн бұрын
There are a lot of A/C, refrigeration, Cat, neighbor, traffic outside noise that sounds terrible if you don’t use music in the recording, I know the echo doesn’t sound good either. For now the music drowns out that noise and it sounds much better with it than without it, trust me. But I’m working toward a new setup with actual audio gear that will pickup my voice, that way any music in the background can be much softer, since it’s not being used to drown out background noise but instead just to sound nice. But until then I’ll keep playing with the volume to make it as least distracting as possible.

Really liking how you are breaking it down into easy-to-understand terms man. Some instructors at these schools don't take the time to really break some of this stuff down much. Although everyone learns differently. I think this can be understood and applied if broken down like you do it. Great job 👍
@Simpli-FlyIt
@Simpli-FlyIt 18 күн бұрын
Thank you!! And I agree, I think a lot of instructors lose perspective on what being a student was like. For a lot of them it was a long time ago, but keeping it simple is the best way to memorize the information for the checkride. They call the private license “a license to learn” as your job to get the license is to learn the basics, but there’s so much more beyond that you’ll learn as you gain experience!

Hell yeah! I hope training is going smoothly for you! Good luck on your solo XC!! Biggest piece of advice I have for soft field landings, not a lot of CFI’s will tell you, but the “softness” of the landing doesn’t matter, technically. It’s all about keeping that front wheel off the ground until the elevator has lost all authority! We want them to be soft of course but if it’s not the softest it’ll be okay by the DPE’s standards as long as you keep that wheel up!

With the anti-collision lights being on both sides. If your plane was certified after March 11, 1996, you need anti-collision lights Day and Night. If it was certified before this date, you are only required to have anti-collision at Night. Regardless of the date, every aircraft needs anti-collision lights at night. *Student Pilot from Florida* Love your videos man, keep it up.

Yes every plane needs anti-collision lights at night, and the rotating beacon also counts as an anti-collision light, in the case your plane was certified before March 11 1996 you do still need anti-collision lights at night, but the rotating beacon alone counts, in the case you don’t have strobes, or they are inoperative.
