I didn't know that you could keep the mite treatment on there when you have the honey super on. Do you treat for mite all year?
@ocbeekeepingsupplies9314Ай бұрын
The correct mite treatment can go into a hive when honey supers are on. We only treat when necessary.

@kimcritchfield57962 ай бұрын
In 3 days they consumed a pint of syrup AND a strip of pollen patty. Is that normal? Can't find queen. When to add honey super? Excluded or no?

Ok, this is more like what my hive looks like--BEES…EVERYWHERE The smoke moves them for about 30 seconds and then they flood back on top of the frames (and all over my hands) like a little tidal wave 😂 I’ve got 2 deep brood boxes and 1 super. They’ve finally drawn comb on all 10 frames of the bottom deep, as well as on 8 frames of the 2nd deep and 5 frames of the super. I got my queen from you last Oct so I think she’s a Randy Oliver queen? But dang is she a prolific layer! It’s just BEEEEEES EVERYWHERE!!! No queen cells since I added the 2nd brood box. Do I need to add a 3rd at some point???
@kimcritchfield57962 ай бұрын
I called and asked. (I’m new), it’s totally preference, but depending on how many bees you want as to how many boxes you give the queen to lay in. For me, I’m afraid I won’t be able to lift a deep that is full, so I have the bottom deep, and adding a super. A full gram of brood will be 2.5 frames of bees in a few days. So that helps you know WHEN to add another box if you want that queen to lay in all those boxes. I’m going to add an excluder after the deep and 1 super. That should keep her with space to lay. And the supers above the excluder will allow others to go make me honey. 😜. Good luck!!

Love how calm the bees are when you check them. Although my hive was at this stage about 6 months ago, it’s still really useful to see your inspections as it confirms that my hive has progressed exactly on schedule 👍 Now that my hive has exploded in size, I’d really like to see you inspect a bigger hive that has more resources to protect and is a bit more challenging to inspect. Like where the bees are crawling all over everything and Queenie is diving two boxes down the minute I take the cover off (the little beast!) 😂Need some Pro Tips for my Grown Up Sassy Ladies! Thanks!

Please feel free to look at our other Vidoes where we do inspect bigger hives. I will also film a hive next time where we have 30 frames of bees and we are placing hiney supers on top. Thanks for your request

What genius decided that it was a good idea to give bees like that to a brand new beekeeper?!?!?
@ocbeekeepingsupplies93142 ай бұрын
Well, it was a bee club member who continues to places "rescue" bees into people's yards. She has no idea of the dangers involved in placing these AHB into someones backyard especially when those receiving the bees have no beekeeping skills. We now PCR test the bees when we get calls like this, and every other swarm we come across. That way we know if the they are Africanized Honey Bees or not. No more guessing.

Your bees are very well behaved-they know to not mess with the Bee Master. My bees, on the other hand, are completely psycho this month 😂 They laugh at smoke, they cross comb wherever they please. I swear they’re completely rabid right now!

Once a week is not too often in spring. If you wait 14-16 days you could be too late, with the old queen swarming and new queens emerging.

How are you liking that feeder? I ordered one them yesterday!
@ocbeekeepingsupplies93144 ай бұрын
It's important to monitor and adjust the amount of syrup in the feeder to prevent potential issues like fermentation and intoxication for the bees. Proper management is key to ensuring the feeder functions effectively in providing food for the hive. Knowing that, thus works very well. Motherload is the best that I have found.

I noticed you have your mite treatment on. When would be the best time to do a check? My hive is doing good, frames are filling up, I'm not feeding them, I didn't see any mites in the bottom tray before I removed it.
@billgibson53385 ай бұрын
Hello Homesteders. That's great news. I would mite test 4x a year with the changing seasons. We mite test evey other month because we want to know what organic treatments really work. Spring for us is a very important time because the mites are under the brood capping. Fall is the very most important time. If we do not know our mite counts in Fall(going into Winter) and if they are high, the bees could die due to high viral loads. I wish you fun and honey with your bees. Thanks
