Always when people ask (beg) for a like or a subscription I refuse, just like I refuse to buy anything what comes up in these forced commercials. But, this time, I'll make an exception. Thanks for the effort, for this upload. I enjoyed it. I was going for cheap film firstly but step by step I think it's not worth to save $5 for making what you love to make. Or create. However you call it. Summarised; thanks. Ps. You shot this in bright and harsh light conditions. I'm curious of the images you get when you're pushing Porta 400 to 800 on a more cloudy/rainy day. :)

Nice colours - I might have to try that film! I own the exact same camera and I’m pretty sure it’s not one of the weather sealed versions. Those are clearly marked as such, and are some of the zoom versions and possibly the 2.8 prime version. In any case, glad yours is ok after the rain and thanks for the video.

Excellent work! How far were you stopping down? F8? F11? I love the super in focus look. That’s what has been bothering me about a lot of film photography. Seems like a lot of shallow depth of field and stuff is out of focus that should be in focus. I think your method (at least in my brain) makes the most amount of sense for shooting manual focus with film.
@KelseySmithPhotography
@KelseySmithPhotography Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind words! Most lenses are sharpest around f8 and fall off as you go in either direction. I believe the vast majority of these were shot around f11 or so which is how I tend to shoot most of my work at this point! :)

The light leaks and limited controls I find helpful using this camera with the higher contrast and much more grainy Orca film to make abstracted blurry artistic images images that I like, but for sharp images of the world, there are much better cameras, including much better 110 cameras.

I recently received one as a gift. I’m wondering how the slider under the camera lens works? If you happen to know
@owenreynolds9599
@owenreynolds9599 Жыл бұрын
The slider under the lens is a pretty archaic, but functional exposure control. Every Polaroid camera uses a light sensor to expose the images, so sliding it to the black arrow will make your pictures darker, and sliding it towards the white area will make them brighter. The slider works by moving a sheet of plastic over this sensor, allowing for more or less light to reach it. In my experience, modern Polaroid film needs a lot of light, so I recommend sliding to the white arrow, but I usually only need to slide it about halfway.

How would you say the focus holds up on the camera? Is the ‘sonar’ bit a gimmick - or has it helped you get crisp looking images. I have a few other Instax and Polaroid cameras and I unfortunately find myself wasting film cuz some shots aren’t in proper focus

I haven’t had any trouble with my copy missing focus. Of course the photos are a little soft, but that’s expected from a Polaroid camera! I’ve missed focus with my new One Step + a few times, but can’t really say the same about the Sun 660! It still holds up great imo.

I’m curious, so you stated that you had flash on. What was your exposure set at? I’m guessing in brighter setting with a vintage camera you want less exposure which is common in old film.

Great Video!! Awesome review.. the pictures came out in true Diana fashion that lofi look… I’m new to film format.. but since the 110 film is so small… do the pictures themselves smaller than the standard 35mm? Also are there other cameras that still the 110 format? Thanks!! Hope your having an amazing day!! I just ordered the Diana Instant Square camera and I’m stoked to getting it!!
@KelseySmithPhotography
@KelseySmithPhotography 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for watching! 110 negatives are significantly smaller than 35mm negatives so blowing them up to a viewable size makes them lower quality than 35mm! There are a lot of 110 camera options out there, but I personally wouldn’t ever really recommend them over 35mm cameras. I hope you enjoy the Diana instant Square! It’s a neat little camera and I bet you’ll have a lot of fun with it! :)

After ten minutes of video, I'm not sure if he answered the title question. I'll try, with a big NO. It's a cheaply made camera by design. The lens is a three element item which as a technical matter simply cannot put a sharp, aberration and distortion free image on film. Three element lenses were probably last used by Kodak on their cheapest Instamatic cameras in the 1970s, and those were not a wide angle lens which is inherently harder to make well. However, they do meet the needs of their target market. That was folks who wanted a camera in the drawer to take family photos around the Thanksgiving table and snaps of the grandkids at the beach. The end product was a double set of 3x5" prints from the drugstore.Today, it has been hyped into a capable photographic instrument, which is a joke. It is the 1990s equivalent of the old, cheaper Instamatic. Is that a problem for most of its owners? Probably not. Cameras like the Mju/Infinity Stylus are owned today largely by folks who rarely if ever actually put a roll of film through the camera. Rather, they purchase it as a fashion accessory - a bit of alternative jewelry. If 200 videos went on YT next month showing a 1960s Kodak Instamatic 104 and implying that anyone who is cool should have one, the Mjus would pile up in a dumpster over night. (Instamatic 104, 126 format; film not available; takes flashcubes; sold new for $16 list).

Hey Cody! So I ask my lab to scan them in flat and do the enhanced scans. Once they get delivered to me I edit them to the way I remember the scenes looking by bringing up the shadows, messing with contrast, warmth, and clarity! :)

@KelseySmithPhotography

Hey cheston!! Considering this camera is fully auto and has a flash you really can’t go wrong with any film. I would recommend trying out some consumer grade film first and see what color palette you like the most before moving onto professional grade film as it’s more expensive! Try out Kodak Gold and Kodak Ultramax and then try out Fujifilm C200! You can also try out Lomography 800 which is my personal favorite.
