@user-fw3lk1hs3q Жыл бұрын

@user-fw3lk1hs3q2 жыл бұрын
I suppose $100 is a fair price for the märklin locos alone, depending on the condition. There will be catalogue numbers on the cab side either CM800/3000 or DA800/3005. This would date them to either before or after 1959. 3005 was also made for Primex in a simplified version.

Only few wouldn't agree that there is beauty in a "Pacific" (especially in this one with its huge traction wheels) - but it's the pointed door of the steam box as well as the aerodynamic form of the roof of the cabin that makes this modell precious for me too ... and above all the pleasant coloring.
@user-fw3lk1hs3q2 жыл бұрын
I have several versions of it, including the original Bavarian green, the DB black and the one with the red and white bands on the chimney. The brown one is now designated to my Pocher Orient Express, and I am surprised at its tractive effort. It's a heavy train and it pulls that up my rather steep incline with ease!
@jenswalter88742 жыл бұрын
@@user-fw3lk1hs3q So congrats, @dolfmeister, for your superb collection of S 3/6! (as a freshman in this hobby I'm just saving money to get the brown version myself - hoping it has like the real one a running gear inside for its marvellous tractive effort too, as it has according to your posting;)))) - stay cool!

Great films. I have a question you might be able to answer, as you have both Marklin & Hornby 3 rail. Is it possible to operate Marklin trains on Hornby 3 rail track, if you change the power supply from DC to AC ? I ask as I'm building a vintage 3 rail layout, but would like to collect both vintage Hornby & Marklin trains. Thanks for sharing your excellent Marklin layout, it's one of the best I've seen. Felix
@user-fw3lk1hs3q2 жыл бұрын
The short answer is no. The long answer, it's because the wheel flanges are much larger on Märklin trains and the Hornby Dublo don't like the Märklin points, as the flangeways are too coarse. I am speaking from experience with continuous centre rail track for both brands. I would assume HD would not like Märklin stud track either, as the spoon pickups would get caught on and/or rattle across the studs and/or fall between studs and short circuit (M-track). Even old Märklin spoon sliders don't like the modern Märklin track.
@RailwayWorld2 жыл бұрын
@@user-fw3lk1hs3q Thanks so much, I was afraid that was the case, but it's nice to get a definite answer. My main project is a British O "scale" railway, but discovered the vintage Marklin / Hornby trains and love the classic charm & metal construction, plus the idea of "time travel" from another world, one I wish I could visit, was born way too late for the steam age, but I can enjoy these vintage pieces.
@user-fw3lk1hs3q2 жыл бұрын
@@RailwayWorld I find it interesting, that Märklin and Hornby were more or less each other's counterpart in Britain/Commonwealth and the continent. Neither made huge inroads on the other's territory. No doubt, the wars contributed to that in a big way. Still, I think Märklin is a far more techically sophisticated system - it had all the bells and whistles! Even under the hood, they are packed with equipment and solidity. Hornby, while made well, was much simpler, not least because they used DC permanent magnet motors. Since I have both, I like to keep the HD manual and minimal. I'm thinking of making modules that can plug together into large layouts on the floor, all manually controlled. That way, you can have long trains and there's the potential to play with others, each one in control of a station along the way. Märklin is confined to an 8x4' layout with about as much track as you can fit into that size. It's fully equi[ped with catenary and everything is remote control, or automatic. With the ensuing mass of wires, having a permanent setup is the only way. I do also have 0 gauge, mostly Hornby clockwork, but the track is electric. I make my own from reclaimed materials. I enjoy scratch building track in a coarse scale, where it doesn't have to be extreme precision... On top of that, I rediscovered Lego a couple of years ago and am now designing trains made out of little bricks. I work off photographs and try to capture the essence in the coarse LEGO grid. Anyway, you ought to take a peek at my website, or you can find me on Facebook. www.dolfmeister.com/
@RailwayWorld2 жыл бұрын
@@user-fw3lk1hs3q I agree, I believe Marklin was far more advanced with their system. Was there a reason you built your Marklin layout with the 3 "rail" track instead of the classic M track stud system ? I had a look at your website, most interesting, we have some similar experiences. My first toy train was Brio, then Mattel Hot wheels plastic trains, then Lionel. I moved onto full "scale modelling" and still do today, but now really appreciate & enjoy the classic toy trains upto around the early 70's. I'll probably build a small 4x8 Marklin layout, and collect Hornby to run on a table top from time to time.
