Thanks for making this it was so informative. I had no idea that each rating was used by so many positions. I used to ignore things like hands for linemen or intelligence for kickers. It just goes to show you can't get a player who's good in every rating category, the thing of roster building is that you have to decide what ratings are most important to YOU and your scheme, per position. For instance, I use tight ends more for blocking, so speed isn't very important for me. For QB I place accuracy and intelligence slightly above arm. I'd say the two categories I use most universally are speed (except for OL) and intelligence. The latter is underrated and it's one of two that's important for almost every position. Hey I was wondering would you mind making a similar video for traits and personality? I'd love to figure out how to use a "bookend tackle" or what a cheerful chameleon is.

Cover CB Long = Spd-Agi-Hnd. Cover S = Spd-Hnd-Agi. Why the difference?

In long passing defence spd matters more as the WR has more space to get open. Agi is important second because of the cut/dodge factor (you can tell I care more about PD than INT). In short passing defence agi matters more because the other player has less space to get open and most short passes have cuts that the CB will need to make. Hnd matters here more to me here as there is a greater potential for an INT on the short pass plays.

Referring to Agility: When you say throw the ball short, you are saying not medium or long. Or does medium also fall into that category

Portal Players (Transfer) are only available during the offseason recruiting period. Generally they are players who decided to transfer from a team due to lack of playing time, coaching changes, or what not. You recruit them the same as you would a high school player with the main difference being you can see all of their attributes and skills.

Not too hard. They had a good corp but the beauty of the pro game is that you can likely rebuild a team in less than two seasons with the right draft picks and FAs.

Thanks for this insight. With the extra sale on Steam I was considering this years version, but think it still lacks some parts. The ones you mentioned and then some, but the devs hopefully will get it there. Maybe spend less time to always looks to be focusing on UI first and formost. I take shot at the new game, that was transferred from mobile to PC, Football Coach, this winter sale. Mods are very active on Football Coach and the devs working hard to improve. DDS have gotten another competition and better shape up. Well a little matter of the price difference should be considered I think. Bowl Bound is perhaps dead, but still pretty good.

Yeah so scouting is more dependent on coaches now, there are no more scouting points and it wasn't clear what you actually do to scout. So from what you're saying, it'll just happen if you have good scouting coaches. My HC is a 4 star but the coordinators are both 1.5. Should be good enough. It's disappointing having less control over the scouting but it's good that coaches are more relevant now. It used to be that coaches didn't matter so much. I also wonder what a good coach grade is. It seems that coach grades tend to be lower in this year's version. My cutoff to consider a player was 25, now I may have to lower that to 20.

Would you recommend a lower tier club to join the league so that not playing the big boys as you learn?

I'd recommend a mid-tier team in a league like the AAC, MWC, or C-USA to start with. The problem with the lower tiers is that it's hard to learn when you have lower prestige teams as the talent differential can be a lot to deal with.

In your GM only league: is it Coordinators playbooks and HC does depth chart and game planning?

It's coordinator only playbooks. Humans will be able to draft, sign free agents, sign coaches, and then set the depth chart and game planning. The play ratio though is set in such a way where coordinators will still be able to call quite a bit. Unfortunately I don't believe there is a way to lock the depth chart and game planning to the coordinators.

On Defense would skill and intelligence have about equal weight?

I think intelligence is still carries more weight as it's the key attribute for field awareness and has more impact on the defense being able to position to stop big plays or make big plays. Skill is more of an influencer around field awareness and is more key with how someone on defense plays their position and doesn't make mistakes in the play of their position (ex. penalties, misses, etc).

Defense is perhaps the hardest part of the game and in a pro league with a lot of difference in ratings it can be very frustrating. I'm working on a defense video for both college and pro.

Yes, they stack on top of each other. Some actions though can only happen in finite manner (like 1 official visit per player for the recruiting period or you can only have 25 total home visits each week).

When you interview a player does the potential only show up if they are interviewed Week 1?

Potential as in what shows up under the Full Scouting report? I believe that populates for all recruits during Week 1 as it's tied to the scouting done by coaches. You may notice a shift based on the report certainity. Personality, Traits, recruit opinions show up whenever you actually do the interview (can be any week). Coach grades I believe is populated once you actually visit the player.

I would strongly consider it until you get a good feel for recruiting as the recommended list are largely people that will be favorable to you. I tend to recruit half on that list and half who I want regardless of that list

Another good video 👍🏻. How do you manage to rate the players so accurately when the CPU projections and Coach suggestions are typically so bad. Eg Bittners card pre pick listed his Speed and Hands as F, but they were both 90+, which you expected?

It's a bit complicated. Wolverine Studios does a good job with fog of war on defense. The only way to truly tell is to watch the game and note where people are lining up on the defense. The caveat though is that if they have Align Man Coverage set to Balanced or Always then the CBs are going to match the WR based on number (CB1 to WR1, CB2 to WR2, etc...).

Just a tip, if you're going to show a document like a text file or spreadsheet, would you be able to make the text larger or zoom into it? Most video software like Camtasia like I use allows you to zoom in to an area of the screen. It's easy to forget when making videos that although we may be doing this on a 36" monitor, it's not going to come out well on KZfaq if they're viewing it in a small window. I'm watching this full screen on my 22" monitor at 720p and the text is still extremely blurry.

What doesn't make sense about the formation changes, is that it's really taking something OUT. If people want to have just one package per formation, they could do that in the old version. What I didn't like is that we HAD to use 4 packages so if I only used 2 I had these extra packages that I didn't use and somehow I always found percentages being applied to them. Doing the formation percentages was a pain but it was nice having that option. The only reasoning I can see for taking out the percentage option is that if you have unlimited packages, it can be difficult to display 10 or 20 packages on that formation % screen.

The alignment of the % was a bit of a pain especially given the snapping of the % to equal 100 where you would have to think about which formation to change. I think that ultimately the % was taken out because with 10 formations, the % snapping would be painful at best. I hope they put it back in the future though as I have never liked the backup feature although I'm figuring it out now.

You mention that those run/pass weightings are percentages but doesn't the help tip you can hover over say the exact opposite?

Actually you are right on this one - it's a weight on how often you will pass. A one means that you are going to run pretty much every down versus a 99 means you will pass on every down. Of course that is assuming that the base in the league is set to 1 and the modifer to 99 or 100.

When you mention Maryland bringing in an abundance of 5* QB's here - do you just stockpile high quality players at any position and then expect the ones that don't get reps to transfer? That's something I'm sort of learning at the moment event though I'm not playing as a huge school. I'm stuck between trying to get the right amount of players to improve whilst also letting my good underclassmen get some reps but then if I bring in a guy who could start in 2 years time, he ends up transferring out because he's not a starter straight away. How do you balance all of that when recruiting?

I don't often stockpile, the game does a good job of preventing that. I was in a weird position going into last season where I had just two QBs returning. I used that to my favor and over-recruited. Based on how I recruited I expected only one of them to be a risk of leaving (Lamb) due to a focus on playing time. The other QBs all valued prestige, close to home, and loyalty more. Of course, I had hoped that either Johnson or Lamb would unseat Baker (my sophomore starting QB) but they didn't. We'll see but i think I will only lose one of them. That might cause a problem in the future for me. Or since I said something they will all transfer now.
