And here it is, 2024, the same battery, same approach, same problem, same answer. Great toothbrush but will never buy again because of this issue.

Would have been good to mention at the beginning that this may require de- and resoldering for this process to be completed. I got it all apart and now I'm without a toothbrush, temporarily.

Just awful behaviour in 2024 to make a product like this which is basically disposable, especially when they use the cheapest possible crappiest Chinese battery, knowing full well it will become useless in about 18-24 months, so we have to just chuck it and buy new one. Disgraceful, but that's how they make their BILLIONS.

I waited over a year to finally give this project a try. Got started tonight but I give up already. I CANNOT remove the solder in order to take it all apart. I am using wick/ desolder braid but it's not working. It's too bloody complicated I'll just have to buy a new toothbrush.

Have just tried this on a Type 3765. They obviously despise people changing these batteries and have made this later model almost impossible to put a new battery in. The only way was to snip off the battery terminal connections with very small scissors; then cut the black plastic moulding that carries the copper coil to swing it out of the way. A new battery could now be fitted but a new one on eBay costs about £15. The fact that these greedy billionaires can get away with making these as disposable items is a complete and utter disgrace. So much for the high and mighty EU and their NetZero Eco rubbish. Why don't they pass a law to say that these products must be capable of having new batteries easily inserted? I've had the same problem with rechargeable vacs where they are made to stop people changing the batteries. Avoid Braun Oral B otherwise you are supporting their disgraceful incompetence in designing goods that are far from eco friendly.

Some versions of the 4729 have battery holders that only take 42mm x 14mm batteries. Some have holders that take 17mm diameter batteries and were originally fitted with 42mm x 17mm batteries.

Hello everyone, I have an Oral B 3731, my friend soldered a new battery for me. But from now on this electric toothbrush won't turn on, My friend checked it with a meter and the motor of this toothbrush works. But the toothbrush button does not turn on the toothbrush and the battery charge status does not appear on the display. Can anyone help and advise what is the reason why the toothbrush does not want to turn on after replacing the battery?

Once the new battery is installed the toothbrush ciruitry might need resetting. To reset the circuitry plug in the charger then stand the toothbrush on the charger for 10 seconds.

Desolder?? That's absolutely ridiculous. Not in this lifetime. These could simply be made to change batteries like for flashlights, toys. WTH.

I think I ripped a couple of pads either side of the wee copper wires along the side. Bridging on to them has given me the red led on constantly. Any ideas which pad I’ve mucked up? Other than that, the fact that everything else if fine speak volumes to the quality of your instructions. Desoldering in tight spaces isn’t that much fun.

Came to see how easy it is to replace the battery. Not that easy. And although I appreciate your video I won't be doing that, too much fiddling. Unfortunately my old brush is going to the bin and new one is in for around 35 quid - price in October 2023. Good video nonetheless 👍

Near where the Type number is marked on your toothbrush (3766 or 3767) it should also be marked "Li-ion" which indicates a 3.7V Li-ion battery is fitted. Email us a photo of your original battery so we can confirm for you if you are not sure - [email protected]

If your not technically minded but good with your hands, give this ago, not only have you got the dam thing going again, this will teach you how to replace batteries in other tooth brushes that are usually easier to replace. You also will get satisfaction from repairing your items. A few things to know about soldering iron if you have one but not to clued up on it. Just be careful with the solder iron tip not to leave on to long or touch other parts, better to use higher heat with thicker end piece for less contact time, and dab a bit of fresh solder on your iron to help melt old solder, Dab the solder iron on a wet sponge or copper wire scourer to keep end clean. You can also Buy copper braid to absorb solder away from the board.if you don`t have a solder suction . Always clean the solder and board with a alcohol base to remove flux left from the solder other wise it can corrode around area, Use unleaded solder possibly silver flux solder, but be careful as some solders melt at different temps And by some flux` as not always flux solder is good enough , you may prefer liquid flux. Take photo`s at each dismantling stage as the video may not look or captured every angle you prefer when putting back together. Always be very careful on them 2 wires from the coil they break so easy,

This might mean that the circuitry inside the toothbrush was damaged. Check the PCB for signs of water ingress such as staining, corrosion or crystal formation.

I have HX993B - moving out the inner parts is very tricky! At 0:58 you see the latch - the need to be pushed slightly inside - both! Screwdrivers are tricky (unless you have 3 hands). I found it much easier to put two wooden toothpicks between latch and housing. They stay in place without hands and push the latch just enough. After that a slight push to the head and the inner part came out.

Just as a side note, if you get your battery elsewhere it may well have next to no charge in it, so when it's all soldered in then it will only give you a red flashing light at test, it will need a decent few hours charge to work. I spent ages checking all the connections were right on the 3 brushes I did last night. Also if the white battery carrier end that is thinned to a millimeter gap is accidentally cut out you will get permanent connection from positive to the motor terminal! Ask me how I know that.... 🤦‍♂️

Thanks, I used this video to fix my 3765 that stopped charging, a wire came lose and it was just a 2 minute soldering job. The instructions to get the base off at 0:55 did not work for me, but after soaking the brush again in (boiling) hot water a second time I was able to pull it off with my fingers. Thanks again!

Hello why do you have to desolder the JP 1 connection? Why not desolder the + and - connections only for the battery removal?
@ionicindustries
@ionicindustries 11 ай бұрын
JP1 is a safety disconnection for the battery. After disconnecting JP1 you can safely desolder the + and - battery connections and if you slip with the soldering iron you won't cause a short-circuit.

I have an antex 18w iron. The positive terminal is too much for it. I cant use the heat gun because its all plastic. The rubber seal at the top of the brush is perished anyway and the wire to the led has corroded away. This is all going in the bin, im going to buy a new brush, it should be easier to replace the battery and the seal should be replacable. How the thing has a CE kitemark i have no idea.. where can i buy a british standards toothbrush??

Great step by step video - it took me between 1.5 and 2 hours, and that included modifying the battery cage to accommodate the larger battery. I also bought the battery (with tabs) from Ionic Industries, and was able to trim the tabs with a small pair of side cutters. The only issue I had was that the fine wires that are tied around the lugs on the side cage, snapped when trying to get them off, but there was still enough wire to solder them in place. I'm not very experienced at soldering and only have basic equipment, so even if you are nervous about doing this I would definitely recommend doing it, to save on having to buy a new toothbrush. A couple of tips that helped me; make sure you have some braided solder wick to make desoldering the joints a lot easier and less messy, and if you place the unit on a sheet of Blu Tack, it will keep it steady whilst doing the soldering.
