You should open the Jib first ( to block air to the Para-sail) then it will be easy to handle. I wouldn’t dare to open sails that I can’t control from the cockpit when sailing alone. Stay safe

There is a really cool KZfaq video of a diver riding a bike under the pier.. the diver found the bike under the frederiksted pier.. it’s a great video .. the tires was turning so slow .. sand was going up the sides of the tires.. he rode super slow fighting the ocean .. it was so halarious .. I think people live under that frederiksted pier!! 😂🇻🇮🇺🇸 but the very first time I ever walked on that pier,I looked down into the water and saw a beautiful spotted eagle ray with a twenty foot tail swimming laps .. showing off up and down the side of that pier! What a sight to see!

Great video, my wife and I plan to start blue water sailing in a year or 2 and we are trying to get as much knowledge as possible. How is the performance of this sail compared to something like a code zero, genoa, or asymmetrical spinnaker?
@svGuidingLight
@svGuidingLight 3 жыл бұрын
Good luck with your sailing plans. I can only speak of this sail and a genoa. This one will give you much more speed, but of course the genoa on a furler is much easier to put away.

Thanks for this honest report on your experiences with the Parasailor Shane. Not everyone is so ready to provide this kind of detail of their learning experiences. I'm glad it worked out for you in the end, but oh boy, what a day that turned out to be. The Parasailor certainly looks like a great downwind sailing option, though like all big sails, it needs some practice. It doesn't look like it'd be that much more trouble than other spinnakers; they all have their quirks. How are you finding the performance in different conditions? Does it ever get wet (other than that first time!) when lowering the sock? Would you happen to know your I-Spi measurement (from deck level up to halyard sheave/block at top of mast) and the Parasailor's leech length? This would be interesting to have in mind while looking at how your socked sail reaches to the front of the trampoline. Thanks for the video and any clues you can provide.
@svGuidingLight
@svGuidingLight 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and yes that first time was a long ending. Once socked up and lowered it does not get wet as long as I turn into the wind to lower it onto the boat or have someone pulling it on the trampoline as I lower it. I do not know the exact measurements and I am not aboard right now due to hurricane season, sorry.

@@svGuidingLight Thanks Shane. I'll be on a mono-hull, so less acreage up front for barn-dancing or sail handling. However, you and a few others are delivering a fairly consistent message, that with some practice and new skills, getting sails like this down is quite doable.

Feed any iguanas you run into with hibiscus flowers. Red ones especially, that's why if you're wearing red they might come up to you and try to chew on your shirt. My best friend's dad owned the largest dump truck on St. Thomas during the time they were moving the Eastern mountain to off the Western end of the runway extending it. His driver was dropping a load off the end, lost control and jumped out just in time to see it sink into the end of the runway. Time, resources, etc dictated that they just keep going. So when you land there, you are landing on a dump truck. December 1989 through Jan 1990 I helped put the flat roof on the new airport terminal. White guys who hired me got fired for fist fighting the day before I came down to take the job, and I spent three days doing nothing, with the exception of checking the caps that held down the flat roof that had already been done. I think I counted 173 that weren't fastend. I told the guy who came down from Florida to take over the job, but he didn't seem concerned. I have no idea if it passed inspection. My family of 6 including 2 of my grandparents were scheduled on the American Airlines flight that crashed on the island in 1976 running into a Shell gas station at the end of the short runway. My mom had a dream, and rescheduled us for a week earlier with all the work and changes made for dad's 3 stores to run for 2 weeks. We were at Magens when it crashed. A call went out for the 2nd most rare blood, AB-, which my father had. My dad said he wasn't taking time out from his vacation to donate blood. Read the karma my dad died to on that island 14 years after that crash, in this book with links below. I've probably been on more cruise ships than anyone reading this, yet never been on a cruise. My dad ran a ship chandlery that had a monopoly on selling liquor to the cruise ships in the early '80s, that I used to spend my afternoons after school doing my homework at, that was located at the last building on the Havensite dock (has Senior Frogs painted on its roof). After growing up on the island and starting when I was 17 in late 1986, we used to roam Charlotte Amalie downtown streets at night bar hopping Coconuts, Rosie O'Grady's, The Ritz, Yesterdays, then to the Greenhouse at 10pm for the current live band, when everyone was partying in the islands. Since the bars closed at 2 AM we would go out to steal cars, usually rentals, and race across the island, afterward sometimes stripping them for parts. I've floored it in a brand new 1987 Accord LXi from the Fort all the way to Frenchtown one night easily doing 100mph, which was not unusual to do with stolen cars but sometimes done even with the ones we sort of cared about. One night I was with a few locals and we got pulled over for racing into Frenchtown. The cop went to arrest one of us and he started skipping around the car in a circle repeatedly singing, "Haha you can't catch me!" to the cop. He made it a couple times around the car and we had to bail him out that night. I hold the record for most boats stolen in one night while alone; three - I took them to a birthday party. Would you like to read about real modern pirates based out of St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands taking place in the end of the cocaine fueled 80s? Thanks for the informative video. Seriously considering getting one for my cat. If you don't mind me asking, whats the size of your cat and how much did it cost you for your Parasailor? Also are you able to use this for upwind sailing in replacement of a genoa / code zero? If so any feedback on upwind sailing performance would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance! Safe Sailing!

Hi, exact same thing happened to me using it the first time ! I'm also sailing most of the time alone or without crew. However the Parasailor is great sail but a lot of work and only sensefull if you use it for many hours ( long distance sailing) It is not a sail for just 2 hours of afternoon sailing.
