It’s the right call but if he was safe and the ump called him out, the right thing for the coach and dad to do is tell him he’s out because the ump said so. Arguing a bang bang play without replay is silly at this age and never overturns the call. It only teaches kids to focus on the thing they can’t control and be bitter. Teach this kid in the video swing mechanics and quickness out of the box if he doesn’t like getting thrown out at first. Anytime my kid gets thrown out I remind him he’s in control of his body and not the umpires mind, so which one can he have an impact on. Hold yourself accountable and you will get better in all aspects in life

Good play all the way around. In some leagues (i.e. travel ball) the batter needs to keep his helmet on until he gets back to the dugout. Would be the only possible change I'd suggest. Batter's reaction is appropriate and not out of line. Always disappointing to be called out on a close play but that is the correct call. Very glad that we don't hear too much from Moms and Dads. I coached and umpired for 15 years at this level and that can be the worst part. Again, glad to NOT see/hear this here.

Ok, semi-teachable moment. A lot of guys will say to watch the bag and listen for the ball to hit the glove. That's a good thing to do. But also listen to the foot hit the bag. It makes a nice *thump* and can be another indicator for the call. This kid is very clearly out if you listen -- definitely a *pop* before the *thump*. See? You can be blind and still be an umpire!
