I have been thinking about it buy this camera. I start to record documentary run and gun style in a small crew just me and my wife, I have a Gh6 with Átomos Ninja V, its a amazing camera, but, for record long interviews it's very annoying having to change the batteries over and over. I have two choices in a small budget Panasonic Eva 1 (cause I already have a GH6 I'll go using its to do the b roll scenes sometimes) And the other options is buy a Canon C200, I already have Sigma EF and Canon EF lenses beyond others vintage lens adapted to EF mount. My questions, do you have problmes to edit mp4 files using Premiere or Davinci Resolve ? To do color grading this 4k UHD it's enough in your opinion? Thank you so much for you content
@forewordco

Hey! Good questions! To start - we don't have much experience with the Pana EVA - so keep that in mind as it might be your best bet. As far as the C200: the battery life is great and is truly a dream for run-and-gun style shooting. The major limiting factor is indeed the codecs available for recording. The RAW quality is wonderful, but as you said you'll likely be capturing a lot in the MP4 format. We haven't had trouble editing that file type, and have never been concerned as we have a proxy workflow setup if things got too sluggish. I think the most limiting factor is in grading. The MP4 file is an 8 Bit image, and while it's some of the highest 8 Bit footage out there, you do need to be careful about how far you can push it in a grade. This means getting things in-camera right and depending less on post to save you, which is a good idea with any camera you own ( : All that said - we've shot a lot of content we're proud of in 8 Bit MP4, and you can capture a lot of wonderful content as well, it just might be limiting for you in some scenarios. Good luck with your decision!

I also just did a quick scan of the EVA-1 and seems like a great cam! More flexible codecs but no internal RAW - might be better for what you need out of it!

@forewordco

Some small rig handle and rail connector! one of the things that is less than ideal about the mount included on the C200 of the monitor is that it often becomes un-level relative to the camera, which can be problematic when attempting to film!

@forewordco
@forewordco Жыл бұрын
My guess would be that if you had the C200 rolling its RAW codec and the C70 on its RAW ST, the image would be close, but probably in favor of the C70. The sensor in the C70 is the same as the C300 Mark III. Again, mileage may vary, and is probably negligible. The C70 Raw files have definitely been easier for us to work with in our NLE than the C200 ever was, and there is far less shadow noise as well 👍🏼

Have you had any issues with flex when using the Nucleus Nano? I’ve tightened everything and it moves a lot when you go back and forth on focus
@forewordco
@forewordco Жыл бұрын
Hey! Yes, we've had problems there too! Generally, we've found it has more to do with the lens mount point having some give - those motors put out a lot of torque! Sometimes loosening up can actually help reduce the tension on that mount point. Otherwise, finding a way to lock the lens down to the rails can be helpful as a solution!
@J_HNP
@J_HNP Жыл бұрын
I’d recommend you do this test again with controlled lighting. It is so obvious that the c70 footage has more light in the entire scene. The shadows on your face and neck are almost completely gone, and the room behind you is much more filled in with ambient light coming in from outside. You can also clearly see in your glasses that you have a key, AND a natural light source flooding in from the front making the variability even higher. All this makes these side-by-sides useless, considering your images look very different in perceived exposure, color, and saturation. Why didn’t you just film them at the same time? That would have eliminated the environmental variability issue.
@forewordco
@forewordco Жыл бұрын
Yo HNP! Not hiding that there was an artificial key and a window - but it was an overcast day with no relative change. But, you're right! For an ideal side-by-side, we should have killed the window. I think what our experience has been and was illustrated in this comparison, is that the C70 sensor not only handles color differently (which it absolutely does, especially with the canon speed booster) - but also has a different shadow roll-off and noise levels (and we've seen repeated as we've shot more) in the respective codecs. While you're right on the whole, your criticism feels a little intense for a video with "quick and easy" in the description. Be well, and thanks for the input!

Hey guys, one question that has been on my mind. Is the C200 RAW available on Super 16 mode like in the C70? And if it is, how much smaller are the files if they are smaller or do they keep the same data rates but with smaller images bringing even more information into the RAW file like they do on the C70 where you can shoot Super 16 RAW HQ instead of just ST and LT?

Honestly c200 raw is not that big it's 1gb per second but that's small compared to some other cameras like the c500 ii raw or the r5c raw. Even smaller than the GH6 ProRes internal witch shoots at 1.9gb per second. And playback on the c200 raw if you use davinci resolve the playback is fantastic no proxies needed at all.

Hey guys. Are the raw c200 files transcoded to prores comparable to the c70 file sizes? As well as workflow and strain on the computer? Thanks much for any info
@forewordco
@forewordco Жыл бұрын
Hey Duvi! Don't have a comparison handy, but I would guess the transcoded files are still bigger! The C70 allows you to shoot in a RAW LT codec that's great quality and much smaller in file size, whereas the RAW codec on the C200 is quite large. Prores makes it easier for editors to handle, but is very similar in size. In addition, there's all the codec variation on the C70 that would provide great quality at a much smaller size (like H.265).

Hello quick question, I'm new to RAW and CLOG. Should I be applying the Rec709 LUT first, followed by adjusting white balance and color correction? Or should white balance be first, Rec709 LUT, then color correction? Thank you
@forewordco
@forewordco Жыл бұрын
Hmmm... that is a good question and maybe a longer answer is necessary... Generally, the white balance will be adjusted at the time of shooting (you have more freedom here with RAW footage, but still). An important delineation for clarity: RAW is a codec, and C-Log is a color profile. So you might be shooting in a RAW format with canon's C-Log 2 color profile. When you talk about applying a Rec.709 LUT, I assume you mean you are seeing a Rec.709 preview on your camera, because when you shoot in a RAW format it needs to be in a LOG color profile. You can get that white balance dialed in with the RAW output visible or with the Rec.709 preview LUT overlaid - it might even be easier to determine if you have it at the right WB with the Rec.709 LUT. In terms of "color correction," that's a step that happens in the post-shooting phase, where you'd pull it into an editor and get the color corrected/matched and graded to a proper output for whatever delivery you intend! Hopefully that's a helpful delineation for you!

Shoot with an R5C and always have the RF 28-70 on it. Not a fan of changing lenses so I just put on the lens cap (I didn't know until 2 days before that you can tighten the lens cap by rotating it clockwise until it's tight for less likely light leaks). On top of that I put a rain cover (deep black) on the camera and lens to further kill light leaking. Always have peace of mind camera ABB's perfect.

Love your style, “matter of fact” and extremely useful info. Just bought the new 21L V2 and 31L V2. I ultimately returned the 31L, was afraid that it be too big for carry on/under seat on certain international airlines, and it felt a bit big for EDC/travel once I got to my destination . Agree with all the constructive criticism. Looks like Wandrd listened and fixed some things like the back panel padding, shoulder straps and stronger magnets. Overall better than the peak design (although the PD’s are made very well) but couldn’t get on with the floppy side panels. Everything would just fall to the bottom and didn’t feel secure that stuff would fall out the side if you weren’t super careful. So far after trying 12 camera travel brands/bags, I settled on Wandrd.
