Easily the best casual roguelike out there. Casual in a sense that the general gameplay loop is really simple, you can just pick it up and play, figuring out most of the stuff on your own without going on the wiki a few billion times. Stuff like Hades and Vampire Survivors doesn't come close, they don't even exist in the same universe as NT, especially with Ultra Mod.

I think the beer upgrade would’ve been better balanced if it added multi shot but instead of the damage debuff it just gave a bit of bullet spread variation, plus that would fit more with the “drinking gives you double vision” joke they were going for with it

The 4:3 display thing is a cop-out. I'm pretty sure it was because of the lack of easy widescreen support by the Game Maker engine when they started. If they were so adamant in creating a "fair" game that isn't taller than it is wide, they would have made it 1:1 (as in, as tall as it is wide). Anyways, this is one of the best indie games ever created, regardless.

I love that if I have 10 spare minutes I can just boot up the game and instantly get into a run and finish it.

I wonder if your commentary has shifted since the game has had several updates since release. I think a follow up would be interesting and could be potentially lucrative

More people should look at binding of Isaac for inspiration its probably in the top 5 roguelites of all time. And it has solutions to so many things wrong here, no annoying store to buy new weapons instead you do things in game to unlock more items. A bunch of different bosses and variants for every floor. Great synergies between a ton of items in the game working together to make your shots behave in unique cool ways.
