Hello, I would like to ask you something,... if you know of course, I don't want to embarrass you... They have brought me semi-precious stones from abroad in regular round design, not big ones and since each symbolizes something and I would like to make a necklace, can you tell me which is better to put synthetic thread or silk thread or waxed string? What's better so that the stones don't break the necklace.. Thank you very much!!!

@@LenaVlahou hi Lena! The number of beads used as well as the material will have a lot to do with the cord you end up using. Unfortunately, many stone beads don't have holes cut large enough for the cord width needed for a mala's finished weight. The strongest choice is nylon, but nylon is synthetic and definitely not my first choice for an item that is supposed to return to the earth someday. I like silk for its tensile strength and biodegradability. If you're interested in learning more about cord choices and other mala-making info, check out my blog here: theweekendmystic.com/blogs/mystic-blog Thanks so much for asking!

Does this work on semi precious gemstone beads too?

Did you pre stretch it? I’m trying to find a good string to use. I made my first one with griffin it stretched way out after I was done.

Super idea. What is bead lube please?
@theweekendmystic4 ай бұрын
Hiya! It's called "gem cut lube" or "burr lube" and it is a slippery substance used to lubricate bits (aka "burrs") and stone while drilling or cutting (and it helps keep them cool to prevent cracks and damage from heat buildup). You can find it for sale on lapidary sites and even Amazon! :)

You can try encasing the ends in French bullion wire, or clamshell calottes -- there are lots of choices, but check those out -- I think you might like them! 😊

Just found this video and its great! Thank you! My question is does the focal bead count in the 108 beads?
@theweekendmystic6 ай бұрын
Not generally, no. It's the "guru" bead -- a nod to your teacher or the intention. 😊

Literally 3 seconds into seeing you I feel like we were sisters in a last life. I’m learning so much with you. Last Friday I placed the first Mala I made around my neck and when 108 beads all dropped to the floor (and rolled into my vents) I needed to find an expert. Knotting! Size 8 silk thread (not size 4!) etc. I’m so happy I found you.

Hi. Just discovered you through a making mala search. I love that quartz you used as the guru. Did you make the setting? It's beautiful and so clear. Also can you tell the meaning difference between milky and clear? And inclusions .. what that is and memory?
@theweekendmystic Жыл бұрын
Oh thank you, lovely LuAnn! You just made my day. Yes, I made the setting using the Tiffany method of soft soldering (which works with lead-free pewter). It's very easy and doesn't cost as much as silverwork. The difference between milky and clear and inclusions has to do with how the quartz is formed. Quartz is the most common mineral on the planet, but it looks very, very different depending on where it comes from and the circumstances it crystallized under. I consider very clear quartz to be the best general amplifier, milky is good for turning amplification inward, and inclusions help to color the intention according to the minerals present (red is usually iron, for resolve, or lithium, for acceptance of the things we cannot change, green is often chromium (pale green fuchsite, good for shifting energy and removing blockages) or chlorite (dark green, like in moss agate -- grounding energy, etc.). Sorry, that was a long response! But great questions -- I should make another video! lol

So beautiful. What string size do you recommend for 6mm beads and 8mm beads? Thank you
@theweekendmystic Жыл бұрын
Most of the time I recommend 0.8mm Griffing silk, not doubled. If you're using doubled cord, you'll want to go 0.45mm or thereabouts. I wrote a more in-depth article about mala cord here if you're interested! :) theweekendmystic.com/blogs/mystic-blog/the-best-cord-for-mala-making Thank you so much for watching! <3
