A few easter eggs - Miku's calligraphy writing at the beginning translates to "World Domination". MISA usually performs barefoot and doesn't sing but wears sandals and howls in this video. Akane not wasting time eating is a nod to her insatiable appetite for noodles. Parts of this song's lyrics were altered from Secret My Lips to reflect Japan's Kyoto dialect (where this video was filmed). MISA and Kanami do a synchronized rock pose after Saiki finishes her slow verse. Also during filming, Kanami dropped her guitar pick but her geisha outfit was so heavy she couldn't reach it and had to get someone to pick it up for her.

Just to reinforce what Davey-Boyd wrote, Puzzle is a song sung by a woman who has fallen completely in love with a cheating husband who will never leave his wife for her. She knows this love will destroy her, that she will never be happy again, but she can't stop loving him. The songs lyrics are both beautiful, in acoustic, harsh, in electric, and tragic in both versions.

"Puzzle" is about falling in love with a married man and all the lies and deceit that entails. If you can find it check out the acoustic version. It's just Saiki and Kanami with one acoustic guitar. Saiki sings this, the full rock version with anger, but in the acoustic she sings with total despair and anguish - it's heartbreakingly beautiful.

Yeah , that video was awesome, pretty much a mini movie. Definitely nothing like the old mtv days, LOL. Seen this a half dozen of so times already, still not close to catching all the details. The album, Yesterwynde, is the 3rd in the trilogy with Endless Forms Most Beautiful and Human:II:Nature. Evolution is one of the themes they have used. Album is due out Sep 20.

Many of us saw Band-Maid play “From Now On” live. OMNG! Kanami riffed her ass off. The DB’s matched the BPM’s! So FROM NOW ON, Band-Maid will grow in popularity even faster as their awesome, sold out 10TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR wrapped up at Japan’s 17,000 seat Yokohama Arena on Nov. 26 and at Hong Kong. AND they’re writing and recording for their new album! The Maids are one of the hardest working super groups in the business! Their music, their sound, each of the Maids... and the love that permeates their live events is an experience not to be missed. Hope you can catch them LIVE! Thx, REn!

👘 On April 1st, 2018 BAND-MAID announced on their social media that they were changing their focus and would be re-branding as "BAND-MAIKO". Then they released this video. At the end of the day they stated they had changed their minds, and would be reverting back to "BAND-MAID". : ) One cool thing is that Miku changed the dialect of their singing and modified the lyrics to use the dialect and phrasing from the old Capital of Kyoto that is identified with Geisha culture. Kanami worked with their sound engineer to add virtual traditional instruments. BTW, a maiko is an apprentice geiko in Kyoto and Western Japan. That's the regional equivalent to a geisha. You'll probably like 'Gion-cho'. It's the featured single on the BAND-MAIKO mini-album that also contains Maiko versions of several BAND-MAID songs, including this one. Although she is from Kumamoto, Miku is very fond of Kyoto and visits it whenever she can. In BAND-MAIKO, she is known as 鳩子 (Hatoko), like "Kobato", that's another version of "small pigeon". Saiki = 富士姫 Fujiki. Kanami = 叶笑 Kanoemi. Misa = 梅美沙 Umemisa. Akane = 紅月 Akatsuki. Hatoko's shodō (calligraphy) at the beginning said "World Domination".

This seems like another BAND-MAID song about a relationship that's not working out. There are some glimmers of hope though. According to Kanami, the lyrics have an image like “I’m trapped in a room, and I want to get out of it but I can’t.” Still my favorite BAND-MAID song, and I was lucky enough to hear it at my first BAND-MAID show in 2018. Let me add a vote for the BAND-MAIKO version of this song, 'Secret Maiko Lips'.

A Maiko is a trainee Geisha from Kyoto. This was an April fools joke by the band. On April 1st 2018 the Band-Maid website and You Tube channel was taken down and replaced by Band-Maiko. All music was removed and replaced with this MV. They stated this was their new direction. They also don't sing in normal Japanese dialect, they sing in Kyoto dialect. Check out the original "Secret My Lips" for the difference. They also changed their names: Saiki became Fujiki Miku became Hatoko Kanami became Kanoemi MISA became Umemisa Akane became Akatsuki In 2019 they did it again on April 1st releasing the MV to "Gion-Cho" - the only Band-Maiko original. They also released a seven track EP of Band-Maid covers with added traditional instruments plus "Gion-Cho" "Secret Maiko Lips" (Band-Maids "Secret My Lips") "Akasimahen" (Band-Maids "Awkward") "Ansan" (Band-Maids "Anemone") "Tora and Tora" (Band-Maids "One and Only") "Yolosiosu" (Band-Maids "YOLO") "Screaming" (Band-Maids "Screaming") "Gion Cho" The only band I know that formed a covers band of themselves!

I don't know the reason behind the white face makeup for Geishas, but I guess it's the same reason why we in Europe used white makeup some 300 years ago. To be pale was a sign that you did not have to work in the fields and get burned by the sun. The opposite of today, when a sun tan is desirable as it shows you can take a holiday in the sun.

The white face makeup customary to geisha and maiko originated in China. At that time, they wore thick white makeup because it looked better in the light, particularly if they were to perform to or entertain nobles. In the dim candlelight, wearing thick white makeup created a porcelain look. 🙂

One of their great concert opening songs, this performance is the opener of the Wembley 2015 show. Yes, that's Floor, track #1 on the Endless Forms Most Beautiful album, first one recorded with her. The 'Beautiful' refers to the beauty of the Earth itself , and all it has to offer.

Maikos are apprentice Geishas. Geishas are the ones that typically are in the elaborate kimonos with white makeup. From the wiki, Geishas are female Japanese performing artists and entertainers trained in traditional Japanese performing arts styles, such as dance, music and singing, as well as being proficient conversationalists and hosts. Their distinct appearance is characterised by long, trailing kimono, traditional hairstyles and oshiroi make-up. Geisha entertain at parties known as ozashiki, often for the entertainment of wealthy clientele, as well as performing on stage and at festivals.

Band Maiko was an elaborate April Fools prank. they completely changed their website saying Band Maid was no more and Band Maiko was the new thing going forward. it was so successful that they released an EP with a number of Band Maid covers in the traditional style. they also released one original song as Band Maiko "Gion-Cho" A Maiko is an apprentice Geisha. Geisha were pretty much the worlds first "Maids" The Maids love to prank us and are always doing something unexpected. cheers

Ningen Isu formed in the late 80's they are known as the Japanese Black Sabbath. songs are written by guitarist Shinji Wajima mostly based on famous horror literature from Edgar Alan Poe, H P Lovecraft and more. the bassist is a huge fan of Kiss Gene Simmons and Shinji is a huge Beatles fan as well as the obvious Black Sabbath. guitarist Shinji is also a friend of Kanami from Band Maid and they had a little guitar battle on a morning show on Japan which was very popular. as far as looks go Shinji on guitar is a Japanese scholar, Bassist is an Undead Monk and the drummer is a Yakuza(Japanese Mafia). i'm glad you loved it. cheers

Welcome to the heavier side of EPICA. Band founder, guitarist Mark Jansen, is the primary harsh vocalist. The contrasting style of his harsh, and Simone's clean vocals, is sometimes referred to as Beauty and the Beast. No, it's not a camera trick.🤣 . Coen Janssen's keyboard is indeed mobile. Usually either on a track or on wheels, and it spins too. They modified it with wireless , and powered by laptop batteries. Wait until you see his mobile keyboard.😁 Title track to the 2nd album from 2005, it is often used as the show closer, and is still played today. The full title is Consign to Oblivion ( A New Age Dawns Pat III). Mark likes multipart epics. lol. Prologue and 3 parts on this album, part IV -VI on the 4th album. "Kingdom of Heaven Part 3" from Omega Alive virtual show, or "Code of Life" live in Amsterdam 2023 at AFAS live will give you a look at that portable keyboard.

glad you loved this one Piri. Maximum The Hormone are huge in Japan and Europe and super influential for many currrent bands in Japan. Hanabie started out as a Maximum the Hormone cover band so you can see where they get their chaotic nature. also Drummers Akane from Band Maid and Tamu from Nemophila have both credited Nao, Maximums female drummer/singer as the reason they play drums. I'll pick more for you in the future. btw I think you figured out that they weren't actually saying "peanuts" lol but something sounding very similar ;) cheers

haha, you saw how contrasting these guys can be 😁 because it’s not at all like the first song you heard from them 😁 yes, the synthesizer is mobile, it moves around the stage as if on rails. It was a heavy and quite progressive song, quite difficult to first perceive, but you realized that it was absolutely epic. I’ll suggest their song, which is a little “simpler”, with more of Simone’s vocals and a great performance: Epica - code of life (live at the AFAS)
