The problem lies in the fact that both the game and Afterlife contradict each other. They both have a depiction of Ivo Shandor that don't match each other. In the game Ivo Shandor, as a ghost, becomes a deity when he assumes a Destructor form. In Afterlife we seem him in a kind of suspended animation. There is no way the two can exist within the same canon. The Video Game is an alternate timeline, it is not in the same timeline as Afterlife.

I do love the 7-point Class system for ghosts, as it's useful even outside of the Ghostbusters franchise for categorizing fictional ghosts as well. That said, there is a disappointing gap in the Classification system, where a location collects enough raw PK energy to form its own consciousness and manifest lower Classes of ghosts- that actually does seem to be its own category, similar to the River of Slime in Ghostbusters 2, but there are other equally qualifying entities in non-Ghostbusters ghost media, like Room 1408, Silent Hill, and Heavenly Host Elementary. These are so strong they seem to create or even exist on their own seperate dimensional planes, and some can even manifest Class 7 entities, so I think they would rightly deserve Class 8 status. Hell itself would probably classify as a Class 8, come to think of it.

Finding this today in my recommendations made me feel blessed because Ray Stanz is my favorite Ghostwriter!😀 Dan Aykroyd.❤️❤️❤️

I'm gonna say 'Yes'... but the "stylized" version on Wii/XBox, and it's not canon to the movies but is canon to The Real Ghostbusters. ;)

I truly believe the video game is the definitive 3rd installment, and Afterlife was meant to be a 'what if' type of movie. Too many questions that can't be answered by the newer movies. 1: Why would Egon switch back to the GB1 ribbon cable on his pack if the GB2 ribbon cable worked just fine? 2: Why didn't Egon EVER mention he had a kid or a significant other? 3: How would Walter Peck ever be elected as mayor after what happened in GB1? 4: Why do a full remakover of the Ecto-1 from Ecto-1A? 5: Why didn't Egon destroy Gozer's temple or Ivo's body when he stumbled across them? 6: How did Egon manage to build a secret lab under his shed by himself? 7: Why would Egon have his flight suit closet in his lab set up just like back at the firehouse? Why would he need all those suits? I honestly believe the idea of the video game being the 3rd installment holds more water than the newer movies. And plus, I'd rather take the psychiatrist from GB2 being mayor over Walter Peck ANY day.

While I loved Afterlife, if it comes down to it, I'd rather the game be canon rather than the movie. SOOOOOOO much lore and storytelling in that game. I hope that they do make them both canon together though. (In my mind it will be anyway. Especially after watching this video :) )

Everyone, everyone: I consider it CANON, but not necessarily CONTINUITY. We keep confusing those terms. Easy mistake. It's a branching timeline with IDW. Afterlife ignores the game and comics because _not everybody engaged with them._ Not everybody goes to comics stores or has a PS3/Xbox/etc. And, let's face it, this isn't a franchise which _requires_ in-depth knowledge of ancillary media, like Star Wars or Marvel. Most moviegoers only know of the franchise as that one thing from the 80s that they saw five times growing up, or buying the toys at a garage sale, but never give it much more thought, because the real world tends to get in the way. They know the Ecto; they know the look of the guys; they know Bill Murray; but that's about it.

Egon's age or rather his birthdate has indeed been hinted at once in the second animated series the "Extreme Ghostbusters" during an episode called "The Sphinx" on December 5th, 1997 One of the new team members, Garret guessed Egon's age to be somewhere in his early to mid 50's. Egon responded to this by telling Garret that he was 39 years old. Now assuming that he already had his birthday that year before the month of December 1997, then canonically that would mean that at least the "animated" version of Egon Spengler was born in 1958.

Amazing how all these movies, cartoons, and comics have so many details in them. Ghostbusters and Stargate exist in the same universe?
