My working theory for mini-Pufts is that it was Gozer's way of shedding the greater Stay-Puft form upon re-entering our dimension. It could also rationalize why it didn't ask Phoebe to choose a new form, as that was no-longer part of the deal. Gozer couldn't get rid of the Stay-Puft destructor form entirely though, so when it re-entered our world that energy latched onto the nearby Stay-Puft Marshmallows and infused them with the residual destructive power left over from the singular larger form. An unintended side-effect of the power trying to re-manifest around the return of Gozer.

I always assumed Stay Puft was just the "vehicle" "remotely piloted" in our dimension, since Gozer doesn't leave the inside of the shrine at the top of the building. Maybe StayPuft was just like a submarine that Gozer used to destroy. But come afterlife, Gozer realizes it has to COME here to have the power to beat the Ghostbusters. Then all the various Cartoon appearances could be just the sentient vehicle separate from Gozer. The afterlife Mini-Puffs could just be a shattered locked-in-shell, shed in anticipation of fully entering our dimension/realm/world.

Maybe they're just psychic imprints. Like the energy from the Ghostbusters manifests into a form that is key to them. This is why the Stay Puff's were mini in Afterlife. The psychic signature was with Egon's Grandaughter, but it was smaller.

I always thought the mini puffs from Afterlife were influenced by the PKE within Summerville. Hence why they acted that way. While Stay Puft, in the video game, was Gozer brought back but without the Terror Dog's help. Which is why it was weaker than previously encountered. He was brought back, but by other means than the traditional route. However, these are my theories on the matter.

The answer: in recent years, depending on the project, it's either decided to be THE final form of Gozer or now a warning sign for what's to come with destructor forms and all that, mostly due to cheap nostalgia bait. They think us seeing Mr. Stay Puft as fan service will make the film interesting when, by this point, it's to be expected.

I think that they just wanted to use popular IP that tested well with kids and audiences and never put any thought into the story or canon with him and we’re overthinking it.

I Want to think (and to me it has sense and makes Videogame canon) that as Ray says, Gozer is Locked to one destructor form per Dimension. Since he/she failed as StayPuft a second time in the Videogame he/she found a way to bypass that lock, getting rid of the Stay Puft form by having it manifest as the Mini Pufts, attached to Gozer somehow, since when Gozer gets anulated they get on fire and disintegrated the same way as Gozer did. That way Gozer is free to use his "base" form, and it would explain why doesn;t ask to Phoebe or anyone to choose a form, since his form is already chosen, it's just that it found a way to bypass it. To me that's what happens, and makes the Videogame Canon. Also explains why Gozer kills Shandor as soon as she/he sees him, since he betrayed Gozer in the Videogame.

Fun fact: In the 'Ghostbusters' Sega Genesis game Stay Puft can breath fire, has eye beams and speaks in coherent dialogue (with a text box anyways). Kinda stands out.

stay puft came back a few times in the IDW comics and one of those times he was a zombie. so I wonder where that fits in.

I really like the residual theory. They are not directly a form of gozer but they are the foot print of their prescence. In AF gozer used their nprmal form but the minis still apeared since, like ray says in the videogame, they are forced into this form when they enter this plane of existence. Gozer can change from the destructor form to the humanoid but cant change the appearence of the destructor once its chosen

Not a different timeline, what you are forgetting is. That in the movie, Gozer the Gozarian told the Ghostbusters. That they could choose the form of the destructor. In doing this, Gozer could change it's form into that destructor. But upon it's defeat, of which Gozer did not expect. Gozer was separated from that form. Only to show up again in Ghostbusters Afterlife.

I'll stick with Ray's explanation for why Gozer went back to being Stay Puft, but for afterlife I think Gozer came back in their god form. Especially since every time Stay Puft returned it was a weaker manifestation being easier to beat. While Gozer wasn't able to return in the god form in afterlife, they decided to split themselves into smaller multiple entities for there distructor form. Why would they do this, simple, to scout out and find the perfect people to posses to be the Gate Keeper and the Key Master. However, I guess controlling thousands of pieces of yourself would be hard, which is why all the Stay Puft minis acted the way they acted (while still being loyal to Gozer). Simply put, gods come in two forms, one being the god form (how the worshipers believe their god looks), and another being the distructor form. This might explain why Gozer avoided the distructor form, and avoided asking anyone for it again (cause it can get dumber than a giant marshmallow man). Considering that Shandor got ripped in two, the god form can be just as dangerous as the distructor. However it leaves the question about how mad Gozer really was at Shandor considering that he himself decided to upstage Gozer and try to become a god himself. But this begs the real question, how was Shandor able to chose his own distructor form while Gozer had to rely (specifically) on Ray to chose one. A working theory on that was that Shandor was a person at one time, but I don't think that theory can get very far.

I thought it was because Gozer had three parts or forms: Gozer the Traveler, Gozer the Gozarian and Gozer the Destructor. That would mean the Gozer that returns in AL would be the Gozarian or traveler while the StayPuft minions would have been linked to the destructor. Thoughts on this?

Mr. Stay-Puft was always my favorite ghost. I am kind of glad that Gozer didn't manifest that way again; it would have been too predictable/boring. I did like the min-Pufts and fighting Gozer in the game. Great video!

One thing I noticed in Afterlife, was the mini puffs ONLY appear when Gozer or the Terror Dogs are near. Considering they are one in the same, it leads me to believe, the Video Game was correct. 1 destructor form per dimension. So… this would stand to reason why Gozer never confronted the heroes in the Destructor form. Gozer probably considered it a major weakness and opted to just manifest in the “humanoid” form. But, the Mini Puffs were Gozer’s PKE going wild… MAYBE, God’s HAVE to pick a Destructor form, when crossing over, and since Gozer chose not to utilize the Destructor form, the PKE was going wild and creating the mini puffs.

I don't know Gozer's track record with destroying universes, but since this universe is the one they're having the most trouble with, we're in uncharted territory. I do like the idea that when Gozer shows up, there's just so much PKE, that even the barest hints of their prior existence (in this case, s'mores yet to be) wake up and cause mayhem. Also, have you perhaps considered a Ghostbusters International tabletop session or two for the channel?

In Afterlife Ray explicitly states to Podcast that he had just singlehandedly defeated a "manifestation of Gozer" refering to having used the P.K.E. tazer to zap all the mini puffs. He explicitly used those words " *manifestation* of Gozer".

I absolutely love Ghostbusters, and even though the movie came out first, I always considered the Real Ghostbusters to be the true Ghostbusters universe since they expanded on the franchise lore and didn't have that silly " the Ghostbusters are frauds because nobody remembers what happened 5-30 years ago " movie sequels nonsense ( although Extreme Ghostbusters did begin with this trope sadly). My theory on Stay Puft in the RGB universe is since Gozer was a god, all of the massive PKE that he generated resulted in the marshmallow residue of his destroyed StayPuft form to become it's own entity that could alternate its form between corporeal and non-corporeal

For the Mini Pufts, I personally see it as that the PKE fromw hat was going on in Summerville reached that WalMart and the marshmallwos jsut came to life and considering their branding, that's why they looked like mini little Stay Puft Marshmallow men

Yeah you got a touchdown something I’ve been wondering my whole life lol I get that The Real Ghostbusters series takes place in an alternate timeline but when you go back to Citizen goes it does suggest that the events of the first movie happened in the real ghostbusters the same way. I’ve always wondered how did Stay Puft go from a magnification of Gozer to it’s own being for the rest of the animated series. In reality, I know why they brought him back because everyone loves Stay Puft and they would have to be crazy to do a animated Ghostbusters series and never bring him back. But they never really explained how he could be his own entity.

The mini puffs were the only thing I really didn't like about Afterlife because they detracted from the original joke which was that Ray accidentally manifested the most absurd thing. No reason they should show up again unless Gozer somehow retains pieces of past forms.

1:27 I refuse to believe that the Ghostbusters movies are just a reenactment from the real ghostbusters but it is strange Ghostbusters 1984 first came out then two years later a show called the (REAL) Ghostbusters?!?!?! I haven’t watched the cartoon too much but these characters do act like how ghostbusters would actually act like Paranormal investigators the ones in the movies however they act like paranormal investigators somewhat according to their screen time the only explanation that would make sense to me is if the real Ghostbusters somehow had a machine that’s capable of going through a multi-verse.

The reason the TVG and Afterlife don't manifest under the same rules, is because of the split timeline aka split universes. TVG takes place in a different reality than Afterlife (thank god, afterlife sucked)

This was my biggest greviance with Afterlife. The entire premise behind Stay Puft's appearance in the first film was due to Ray's unintentional conjuring. So what or who actually "chooses" the mini pufts? Their appearance just seem like more of a reach
