Mr. Willis! Thank you so much for this excellent analysis. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it. My favorite outfit is the Master Assassin outfit as it should have appeared on the 6 inch McFarlane figure. Next is Altair’s with Belloch’s as third favorite. Really appreciated your statement of the stripey pants which soooo needed to be said. Bless you for this and all of your previous analyses and studies. You’re the best!

small nitpic, but for future refrence, you call a strip of cloth tied around your waist a sash, not a belt. if it is made of cloth, it's a sash, if it isn't cloth, then it's a belt.

Some things you missed that are worth mentioning; the Edward outfit is unfortunately NOT perfect, if you look at hidden blades on the bracers you'll notice the textures are horribly bugged and in gameplay and cutscenes the hidden blade itself is invisible (a trait shared with Arno's Fearless Outfit) An issue with Ezio's legacy outfit is the lining of the cape being white instead of red Shay's outfit is also missing the scarf/gas mask which makes Arno's neck look strangely naked. There's an interesting bug with Napoleon's outfit, if you equip it and then equip colors/dyes they will actually alter the saturation of the outfit, this is most noticeable when swapping between white eagle and pure shadow.

From my understanding, the stripes on the trousers of the Sans-culotte outfits are actually important: They were a visual sign of the patriotism of the people during that period, since by wearing striped trousers like those, they were rejecting the clothing fashion of the aristocrats at the time (which consisted of breeches) by wearing the clothes associated to the common people: pants (hence why "sans-culotte", used to mock those patriots, as "culotte" is french for breeches and "sans" means "without"). The stripes were also to symbolize that intention of deliberatly choosing to wear the pants as a patriotic act. So the fact that Arno's trousers get more significant stripes as the set becomes more "legendary" is just a nice touch, showing an evolving defiance toward the aristocracy and a greater connection to the patriots' cause, just like I would imagine a real sans-culotte would do during this period. It's a good costume for role-playing as a french revolutionary, basicaly... and that's thanks to the stripes XD

This might be a bit basic but my favourite outfit in Rogue is the Templar Outfit the base one that Shay wears. I liked the interim outfit when I got it but I was wondering where the one on the cover of the game was and when I got it I never looked back. I love the red and black colour scheme and I don’t mind it not having a hood. The outfit fits Shays character as a more subtle Templar than Haytham for example. He doesn’t want to stand out too well and the red provides a sense of danger to him but since it’s not on the whole design it doesn’t make Shay look like a villain.

Personally I think of the Valhalla loading segment as something sort of like a dreamscape, which feels kind of fitting given how often dreams and visions and sometimes illusions play a role in the storyline. And the same can also apply to Mirage with its sort of “mysterious in an ominous manner” aesthetic as an emphasis towards how for most of the game Basim is facing an internal conflict as much as one that’s external

I think this movie had so much potential. It could have gone into some really dark and hard hitting story beats. The shines of greatness are few and far between however. The opening scene was very effective and if the whole movie had that tone it would have been great. This is really dark subject matter to tackle in a movie and making it just a by the numbers action movie with lots of jokes and poor cgi squanders the potential of this story and could even be seen as disrespectful to people who’ve had to endure similar trauma.

Love this series man. Syndicate certainly has some *interesting robes*. I’m slightly disappointed by the lack of legacy outfits, although it was nice to see Aveline get a shout. The RPG era will certainly be a lot. I certainly don’t envy you! Will Chronicles get a video? I know there aren’t many, but they generally don’t receive invites to any sort of ranking lists.

I intend to make a deep dive on the chronicles games at some point but I don’t think there’s enough outfits to warrant a video, also the 2.5D style makes the outfits difficult to see.

I came to this series totally backwards and late to the party. When I found out about this series, it was after playing the Batman Arkham games in 2022. I had gotten Gotham Knights and was disappointed by it. From there, GN critique videos mentioned AC, but its aesthetic didn’t appeal to me at all. What did appeal was Odyssey. I loved the movie Troy and the old Ray Harryhausen films, and Odyssey looked like it would be a kind of Clash of the Titans adventure. So that was my jumping in point, and I loved it. Moved on the Valhalla from there and thoroughly enjoyed that too. Then I decided to back and played AC 3, Black Flag, Unity and just started Syndicate. I started with AC3 because of the American Revolution story. And I’ve liked each game better than the previous one. So far I’m liking Syndicate the best. Maybe it’s just the newer, less clunky game mechanics and that very familiar rope launcher. Maybe Syndicate is what I had hoped Gotham Knights would have been. Not sure if I’ll play the Ezio series yet, but these videos are getting me interested…

Odyssey was a great game. Valhalla was brilliant too! I spent over 200 hours just immersing myself in that beautiful game, I love the levelling up and grinding aspects of the new games. Imagine crying over a game because it has too much content lol. I have played all the Ass Creed games (and read all the books) practically when they first game out, and though I always preferred the old style of gameplay and the stories, I welcome the new RPG style, I feel it breathes new life into the games. The fans are never happy, if they kept the same gameplay formula in Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla Then the fans would cry because "Hurr durr it's the same game!" but Ubisoft decided to change it up a bit and now they're like "Hurr durr this isn't Assassin's creed!"

I came to this game series backwards, I think. I’ve just finished AC 3 and Black Flag and I’m now playing Unity. But I started my AC experience with Odyssey and Valhalla, which like the filmmaker says, are kind of devoid of assassins. Odyssey because it takes place before there ever were assassins, and Valhalla takes place in a land the assassins abandoned. One of the most interesting parts of Valhalla for me was finding those abandoned assassins bureaus and reading their letters and memoirs. These games start out in a grounded, historical world but eventually end up in mythical places. And now that I’ve started playing the older games which are focused on the struggle between the Templars and Assassins, I see these other AC games as focused on the Isu as ancient god-like beings similar to the way the Marvel movies portray Asgard as a kind of high tech mythology. Anyway I had such an adventure playing Odyssey and Valhalla. And so far I’m liking Unity a lot more than AC 3 or Black Flag…

1:22:20 Okay this is just pathetic. All of these questions and more are answered in The Secret Crusade. I usually wouldn't say that a novelization is required reading to follow the plot, except for the fact that "The Secret Crusade" actually exists within the story of Revelations. It's literally the book Ezio takes off of Leandros at the end of the first memory sequence and he canonically reads it while sailing to Constantinople. I don't know how you make a video analyzing Altair's character without reading it for yourself, especially with how much time you spend gushing about him in your other videos.
@KicktheSky34
@KicktheSky34 9 күн бұрын
1:18:10 You're so badly wrong in your summation of where this memory picks up that I can barely keep watching. Did we play the same game? This is expanded upon in The Secret Crusade, but you don't even need to read that. Altair and Maria discuss what they were up to while walking through the castle and it sure didn't involve running away from the Assassins with the Apple. Adding to this later- you even play the conversation they have, and then proceed to get the timeline of events wrong AGAIN. Seriously, what the hell? You're just making up your own story at this point.
@KicktheSky34

The Armor of Altair was originally conceived of as another invention of Leonardo's, so that probably explains the Italian appearance. Lore-wise, the armor was brought to Italy by the Polos and passed into the possession of Domenico Auditore, who built the Villa Auditore, so it's probable that the fabric sections were actually the robes of Ezio's immediate ancestors and not something originally designed by Altair. This would explain why the top portion of the robes underneath the armor bear a resemblance to Giovanni's robe; it's literally a family resemblance. Realistically any fabric portions that originally came with the armor would have degraded and rotted away in the 200+ years between Altair and Ezio's times. Notably, Altair's illustration of the armor in the codex is solely of top metal portion with no robe. My head-canon is that Altair wore the armor underneath his usual outfit up until his exile, and possibly when he returned, but it was never worn out in the open. His goal was to keep the new metal a secret after all. Taking it a step further, I don't really see the boots and vambrace as being original to the armor either. For one thing, they aren't included in the illustration I mentioned. For another, they being identical to the missaglias armor tells me that they were probably additions by Domenico. Domenico briefly possessed the complete codex in Venice. Perhaps he was able to recreate the metal formula to create additional armor pieces. Alternatively, he simply added the sturdiest armor he could find and Ezio just never knew the difference, hence the Animus referring the whole set as "Armor of Altair". Ezio thought those pieces were unbreakable, so the Animus made them that way. Canonically it was only ever the chest piece that would be put to the test...

I don't understand why everyone seems to hate on the armor of Brutus, I think it's a badass outfit and fits very well with the narrative. "Cesare" is an Italian respelling of the Latin name "Caesar", so it is fitting in a way that surpasses the meaning of the word for Ezio to use this armor.

This was a very good deep dive into Haytham's character, I just wish you had talked about the conversation Connor and Haytham have in-game in the the course of their duel, because I think it implies an interesting perspective into Haytham's character; where Connor accuses Haytham of having succumbed to nihilism and is just taking it out on the world. If I'd lived Haytham's life, it would be hard not to do the same.

Haytham biggest failing is never realizing how far he, himself, had fallen. Trying to manipulate Connor with the information about Ziio's death is Birch using Edward's murder to indoctrinate him all over again. Connor was absolutely right to cut ties.

"Controversy" also known as racism. I love that you compare Yasuke's characterization to Charles Lee's. As if there's something wrong with being gay, as if it was the same as being a racist genocider. *bruh* Nah man, it's totally ok to imagine a mysterious historical figure as queer. There's so little information about this person and for some reason you already assume he was straight, maybe he was bi and would be insulted if portayed as hetero.
