I think you'd like "84C MoPic", a serious, if simple 1989 Vietnam war movie., 95 minutes.

It's always funny seeing how people react to the humor in this movie. In 2024 it seems edgy and shocking to certain people but it's completely harmless and I think there's just a lot of brilliant little moments throughout it.

A little late to this one, but Wolverine and Deadpool are both stronger than normal, but not super humanly strong. It pretty much boils down basic strength training, but their healing abilities repair their muscles as fast as they can tear them, so they can push themselves beyond normal limits. Someone like Cap, Jessica Jones or Luke Cage would stomp them in a test of strength. Even Kingpin might match them (If you ever get around to the Netflix series of shows).

36:57 I couldn’t find anything on the internet, but is that Tom Hanks in the upper left and Sean Penn in the upper right? Forrest Gump and I Am Sam were mentioned, so… ? If it is them, it’s funny that they’re nominated for playing characters with [different] disabilities again.

In the 90s Tom Cruise and Ben Stiller worked on some comedy skits where Stiller played Tom’s stunt double. Worth checking out.

Whenever someone says "You couldn't make Blazing Saddles today," remind them that Tropic Thunder and Jojo Rabbit exist. Most people who think you couldn't make Blazing Saddles these days think that because "everyone's too politically correct." The truth is, good satire is immortal.

It ends with T2 for me. I appreciate the other stories, i mean they are ok, but they don't make sense with this one. They are also not as good. Make up your own mind, of course.

If you got a little emotional over the scene in this film, of the hammer going to Thors hand, just wait until you get to the next time it flies to a hand!

As of when the movie came out Tom Cruise was in a hybrid of serious action movies with serious drama movies. As far as I remember there was no indication he was going to be in Tropic Thunder. Even though it's very obvious now when you watch it that it's him, because of all the serious work he'd done--and his generally intense demeanor, it was a true surprise in-viewing that the character was him! It's why they kept the credit until the last. Love this movie!

Playing a black character is not "blackface". Learn what "blackface" is.

It's such a genius move that we spend the first half of the movie focusing on the apparent protagonist and the money, only for both of these things to be completely irrelevant after all

I think black audiences and white audiences didn’t see this joke of RDJ quite the same way. Most of my white friends thought simply the audacity of it was hilarious. Black people who didn’t see it in this one dimensional way saw the real joke: Hollywood would actually do this. And considering recently, Hollywood asked two white actresses, in Scarlett Johanson and Emma Stone, to play asian lead characters. It was no surprise when it was revealed that a white Hollywood executive in the 90s suggested Julia Roberts play Harriet Tubman in a bio pic.

I did hear that originally this storyline was slated for Judge Dredd, but the character was unknown in the US. So they created Robocop from scratch.

One of my favorite details that most people miss is Osiris' lines (or maybe Kirk's lines as Osiris, in this case). Most of his lines are taken from various scripts and prep work he's done over the years. This is why he gets called out for quoting the Jeffersons' theme song. He watched a lot of that show in his prep to play Osiris. He can't ACTUALLY offer any advice as a black man. But he can quote a show that sounds like it's good advice. Later, he uses really weird Vietnamese pretending to be a farmer because all he can do is recite the Vietnamese he's learned from some script somewhere along the line. There's other little pieces of this detail spread throughout the film and it's such a clever touch on his character and how he interacts with the world around him.

Tom Cruise created his role. And he is uncredited. To be fair I would think McConaughey normally would play a role like that - or maybe that's just my impression.

🙂 in the opening when you said Tarantino wouldn't do this... No, it was Oliver Stone made the movie "Platoon" about his experience in the war... where two characters sorta kinda battle for the young recruit's soul... 🙂 so they were doing a "sendup" of a Platoon scene.

Love the first Thor. It’s one of my favorites. Natalie Portman is so beautiful in this film. Her and thors love is innocent in a way. I think it’s a beautiful film more with Asgard. The “realm” is amazing. I like it more than captain America.
