I know this is 2024 model. Looking at the 2025 model they have, would you still do the modifications you have done to your 2024? Is there upgrades on the 2025 that you like? Love the videos and thanks for all the great information.

14 mpg way too much, south of the border, we install a natural gas tank system. We get an equivalent of 25 mpg in our net cost

Thank you..I'm leaning more to this rig. I was really interested in the LTV's on a ford Transit but the build time is a long wait. Then when it arrives. They hit you with an over MSRP price change. Anyway, this seems like a reasonable price for what you get. Are they built solid? Feedback from other owners?

@XPRoller We do carry a tire repair kit and inflator. That will work with a puncture in the tread but not sidewall damage.

I'm late to the game, but I'm watching all of your videos because I'm close to buying a Crosstrail 20XG. Thank you for all the great tips about Critter! I'm just a little embarrassed to say I have no idea how to do that. I can't do anything video editing wise as you have seen. I know I have the worst videos on KZfaq but it's really just about the RV. I do hope to record a new one, just waiting for a new solar charger to arrive. Cooked my first on a really sunny day.

Thanks for a great video. I am considering upsizing from my self-built class B (on a transit chassis) to a crosstrail or similar. Do you know where I can buy a Crosstrail like yours? Meaning...with all of the electrical upgrades, lift kit, etc. They seem to be hard to find. Can you point me in a direction? :)

We purchased ours from MHSRV in Alvarado, TX. The salesperson was Noland. This is not the only dealer in the country but we had bought from this dealership before and we're very comfortable with them. If you fly in, they will pick you up from the airport. I believe they are the largest single RV dealership in the world. They have golf carts for customers because the lot is huge. You could spend days looking.

This seems to be your first RV. Did you have a short list of other rigs…Can you get all electric (stovetop) in lieu of propane….do you need for heater propane

This is actually our 6th RV over the last 15 years. Most were new. I researched for months before selecting this one. The stove top is all electric. The propane is only for the hot water, furnace, and outdoor griddle. You can also run the generator off your propane tank if you choose to.

My first dealer visit from Thor for a complete electrical system failure took 5 months. They didn't fix it another 6 months, no fix another year with multiple visits- no fix Thor ran out the warranty and left me hanging, I had to pay an independent tech to finally fix it, two years later. Thor is the worst. And there is trust behind the negative stories from real people like myself.

Stories like this really make me sick and not want to roll the dice again by buying another new RV. This will almost certainly be our last purchase, and consider ourselves very fortunate to be so lucky this time. Being handy with repairs is one thing, working on the entire electrical system is something completely different. I would not attempt it.

What size gauge wire wire do you use from your Nokio solar panel controller to your plug on the RV? I have a Nokio and I'm using 10 gauge wire and it's not recognizing the solar panel. Although the solar panel is working fine into the controller, but not from the controller into the RV. Do you use 12 gauge from Nokio controller to rv plug? Thanks.

I do believe it is 12 Guage wire, but I will have to confirm that. I did recently overload my charger and have to replace it. Turns out 800 watts on the roof is max when the sun is high on a SE Texas summer. That experience will be my next video.

Yes, but they are the standard RV locks everyone uses. We upgraded ours at the Quartzsite RV Show in Arizona last year. Something I would recommend everyone do, especially if the storage can access your interior.

Yes, it does have a generator. We didn't use it once all winter. The furnace is propane, and the batteries charge any time you drive. Also, I don't believe we ever went more than a day or two without any sun. Even partial sun will generate power.

Hi, Could you speak about why you chose this model vs. the 21G? Was it simply the bed configuration? I currently own a Pleasure way Ontour 2.2 clas B and it's the highest quality RV I've owned to date. We are trying to decide if we want to move up to a B+ unit but I am petrified of selling a great rv and getting into something that will have issues. You said it well in your 5 month review all rvs definitely have their issues for obvious reasons. You just hope that it's nothing structural or major. The other thing holding me back is the fact that my current B van which is a Ford Transit also can be parked anywhere, driven anywhere and looks like a van vs. having a B+ which is obviously viewed as an rv.

I can not argue that this B+ is stealthy. Is an RV and looks like one. It's a tradeoff, but for us, it is well worth it. We had a 2022 B Class Thor Sequence. It did not look like an RV, and we liked that, but it was just too tight to be comfortable full time. As you know, we did remove much of the decals and graphics to tone this Extreme down. That actually helped a lot. Still, you have your work cut out for you with this decision. Regarding our choice of the 29 over the 21XG, it became a no-brainer. Prior to seeing them in person, we liked the 21, but once we got inside, the 20 was far better suited for our needs. The bed, the bath, and the storage configurations were the primary factors.

Power can be a complicated thing. That is why we wanted to have all the bells and whistles factory installed. Coachmen and Renogy di an amazing job on this RV. All I had to add was 2 more solar panels, and that was easy. The game changer for us was the dual 400 amp Lithium batteries. They make all the difference. Best of luck!

@lorriemelko1285 We don't actually remember the type of wood, but almost anything would work. I believe it was a soft wood, but I don't think it was pine. We drilled holes and attached it with small bolts. Not sure the exact measurements but just short of the length of the bed. About 18" above the surface of the bed.

Ours came from the factory with 2 x 200 watt panels. We added 2 more for a total of 800 watts with 4 panels. It's impressive how much power they deliver on a sunny day. They also reduced the amount of heat of the roof.

There should never be quality issues on any brand new RV. The RV industry has brainwashed everyone into believing their terrible quality should be expected, but that's nonsense. At these prices, I don't want to deal with unnecessary issues that prevent me from enjoying the rig I paid good money for.

For the TV, we ran an extension cord from the AC plug below in the garage. For the phone charge and DC fan, we ran that from the DC outlet under the dinette, through the bathroom, and into the bedroom. It was a little tricky but worth it. A nice feature there is that you can run the fan all night and charge phones without having to have your inverter on.

How many hours can you run your AC at night when you have no solar and no 30amp plugin with your 800 amp hours batteries ?

That's a really good question. I have not actually tried to time it, but I do know it depends heavily on the outside air temperature and the desired inside air temperature. I do see on the display that the ac running at full will draw about 100 to 110 amps. I imagine running full out and without cycling off, you could run it between 7 and 8 hours with no input/charge to the batteries. Just my guess.

I truly appreciate you taking the time to document your views and modifications on your Coachmen. We will be purchasing this fall, and the information you've supplied has been of great help. I was also on the fence about the generator, as we will be expanding the solar to 1000 watts, but you make a good argument for having it, especially now that I know it is a true switchable dual fuel. We have camped in our current rig in places shaded, preventing solar charging. I debated relying on the dual alternators for charging, but if the generator can run the AC and rapidly charge the battery, that makes the decision easier. One question: is the air conditioner a DC unit or AC? I've scoured the Internet about these specs for the 2024 and haven't found it anywhere.

The AC unit is ac. You will need to have the inverter on to run it. Prior to the summer, I think I would have ditched the genny, and that would have been a big mistake. Some suggest you can simply idle the engine, but that second alternator can only supply about a third the power as the genny. When driving, you charge the batteries but only (in this unit) about 5 to 6% per hour. It's better than nothing, but it's not huge.

Hi Rick, My partner and I really appreciate your videos on the Cross Trail - the insights and approach. We are considering the Cross Trail 20XG and similarly, the new (2024) Jayco Granite Ridge and the Entegra Condor. Would be great to get your input on power particularly if you have a moment. Seems the Cross Trail has a great boondocking power system but we really prefer the bedroom cabinet storage on the Jayco and Entegra as well as the fuller outside kitchen and larger tanks due to cassette but are not sure about the battery/ power capabilities in them nor do we love first year release or new of any rv. (Seems kinks get ironed out and depreciation is so extreme in those fist couple years on top of current crazy prices.) The Granite Ridge (and I think Condor is the same in all respects) states it has 3.9 Kwh 12 lith battery w 360 roof solar (room for more), dual controller and 2,000 watt inverter. We are almost RV newbies and have limited knowledge here but like you, we are not campground folks, plan to be part-year on the road working remotely and traveling, and prefer BLM n Forest Roads etc as much as we can before campgrounds. I wish Coachman considered that for many it was not necessary to raise that bed all the way to ceiling to use the garage for most things w three access doors. Seems that would allow for full upper cabinets in bedroom and better TV placement not blocking the window. Also, I know you said its a great coach in many respects and appreciate that input. Yet.... for 150,000+ it is discouraging to have to correct so many things. We are handy, fixers and restorers and its discouraging to see screws pulling out on brand new RV cabinets at this price or cheap Chinese fans instead of spending $500 more dollars to put ones in correctly initially. Its not like that poor quality is unrecognized. It is a choice to overlook it. One I dont like but cant do much about I guess. Very few rigs in this niche.. Anyway is you have a sense on how the power compares on these to yours I would be so so grateful for any direction. Best wishes!

Feel free to email me if you like at [email protected] for additional info any time. This (selecting a new RV) is no easy choice, but you are asking the right questions. We see little upside to campgrounds when traveling. Makes more sence money wise to drive your car and stay in the best hotel resorts than to buy an expensie RV then pay for hookups every night while you are crammed in listening to arguments, dogs and everyone elses noise. Not to mention being smoked out by campfires blinded with miles of rope lights. The fees are nuts and we didn't buy and RV to be bound by reservations, check in times and check out times. Last night we were right on the beach near Galveston, for free. You could pay the county $10 and stay for a year! I digress....Power is vital and you need options. As you know we have a lithiam battery bank of 800 amps factory and that is huge for this size RV. The trick is filling the batteries and this rig has a second dedicated altinator in the Transit engine to do that while you are driving. After that you have the sun and we have 4 nice 200 watt panels on top with another 300 watts we can plug in on the side. Then there is the duel fuel genny that is fantastic when you need it. It will draw from either your big propane tank or gas tank with the flip of a switch. Finally there is the option to plug in with a 30 amp service. We don't actually even travel with the cable because we never use it. The batteries will run everything (including AC) through the 3000 watt inverter but when it is really hot out and the AC is on 24-7 you will need to keep them topped off with the genny or by driving. Yesterday it was 109 and humid so we did have to call on the genny. Let me know if you would liek to discuss more.

Thanks for the videos. I had been dreaming of either an Ekko or Aeon but between the prices and limited garages (compared to your van) I was still hoping for something better: and it seems the Cross Trail XG might be the answer. I'm curious of your thoughts regarding winter/below freezing of your rig, whether it is a consideration for you or if you've thought of improvements you would make for the cold. I'm based in Canada with most of my travel done in the fall and winter, heading south to mountain bike in Utah and Arizona so I get exposed to a lot of chilly weather. thanks.

The Crosstrail is a 4 seasons RV. We didn't need to make any changes there. The furnace and hot water are very efficient propane with a very large tank. All the water tanks are on heated pads, and the entire RV is very well insulated. Driving in show and ice is actually amazing with the full-time all wheel drive, lift kit, and all terrain tires. We have spray many nights in the single digits with no issue, always without hookups. This rug is a beast in the cold.

Thanks so much, that is very kind of you. The tanks are external but are on heat pads. Flip that switch, and you are 4 season. We spent weeks in the teens and overnight single digits. No issues there.

Between 13 and 15 mpg. The reasons this is not better are the following. Full-time all wheel drive, lift kit, all terrain tires, a second alternator to feed house batteries, and one additional item/feature that I can not recall.

No, we did not. This was our 6th RV purchase. 3 of which were new. We did spend 3 days at the dealership campground testing every system.

Many nights in the single digits. Furnace is propane and very efficient. Never had an issue with anything freezing. All tanks are on heating pads. Per Coachmen, it is a 4 seasons RV. Drives great in show and ice as it has a lift kit, all terrain tires, and full-time all wheel drive.

Hi Ricky, I hope you're doing well. I just a few questions, if you don't mind. 1- How did you take the decals off the front portion of the cabin? Did you get up on the hood? or use a scaffold system? Trying to figure out the best way to reach it using the typical ladder. 2- Did you ever figure out an upgrade to the kitchen cabinet hinges? They're already starting to come off the cabinets. 3- Do you have a TPMS? if so, where did you attach the signal booster to get power? Thanks as always for helping out the Newby here! 🙂

If I remember correctly, I got on top and laid down, reaching over. We have yet to find a replacement for the hinges. I actually use the Ford app to check my tire pressure. Also good to check oil life and a number of other items. Keep in touch!
