Is it bad that I don't actually care how a zamboni works, I just watched Deadpool, not that it isn't interesting, it is kindoff cool to see how Deadpool kills Ice Guy

There is also matted floors as well as sand and concrete. Mat floors are used for mobile or temporary rinks like what the winter classic is played on.

@Jon P he did not seem to know much. Not being serious. He made a great effort like I said. I didn't vote for Trump. Nor Biden. So again what is your point buddy? To show you hate America? 🇺🇸 good luck to you. I have no ill will towards anyone. Not sure where your hate is coming from. I am just a dude trying to make it man. Wow you show a lot of hate.

I used to think ice at a mall was the coolest thing until I started working for an ice rink 5 years ago. Took a trip recently to Iowa city and I insisted on going to the mall to skate until I got there, that ice hurts my skates just looking at it. It's cool but I just hate the way the ice looks, I don't think I could ever bring myself to skating on that ice again.

It really amazes me how universally simple working that tool looks to folks. It seems Everyone who watches a zam operate also sees it as one of the easiest jobs in the world. If what you see is a guy likely sitting down and turning right 180 degrees about 16 times during 8 to 9 laps and then casually leaving the ice, you would be grossly misreading the entire job. Most of you have absolutely no idea about how much science and understanding goes into the work apparently because there are so many clueless operators (many making youtube videos) who actually get paid driving these machines around thinking the same exact thing and perhaps why so very many rinks have crap ice. Just because you pick up a hammer and swing it does not make you a carpenter. Consistently making perfect ice is the difference. Does your driver flood the rink into a lake just before you play hockey? Then you are likely looking at a moron. Does your driver race the zam and finish in 6 minutes? You are likely watching moron hard at work then. Does the machine seem to be behaving as if its been beat to hell and runs like a jalopy? Strangely and despite how powerful and heavy the machine seems, It doesn't take long to murder a resurfacer with a broken maintenance plan and negligent operation. It isn't easy folks. It only looks easy due to many, many, many hours of labor doing it right after being taught how to do it right. Many of the rinks I've seen have incestuous training programs that started with ignorance. Any 16 year old with a license can drive the machine around for 15 minutes. Is your driver an expert or merely think he is? Perfect ice every time before and after any and all types of programing takes a lot of thought and understanding and information. Does the surface remain exactly the same depth year after year without scraping paint or burying it under inches and inches of ice? And I haven't even mentioned the refrigeration study. And who in their right mind would assume anyone is recycling the snow? would you expect to recycle dirty mop bucket water? Gross. Think about this next time you reach to grab snow from your rink floor: Gentlemen, snow tank contents include from time to time; sweat, spit, snot, blood, hair, urine, puke, and many other toxic fluids, various metal; ie-coins, keys, pendants/jewelry, hockey gear screws and rivets and threads, plastic and paper trash; ie-mouthguards, gum wrappers, and of course the same dust and dirt and filth you'd expect to find on any floor. just because it's cold doesn't change that its a floor, same as any other. surprisingly, the one thing you shouldn't find in the snow tank is a puck because the machine doesn't swallow those very well at all so, to All of you who either leave the pucks accidentally of on purpose thinking "the zam will get it" are hurting, no destroying, your machines ability to operate properly by bending the augers and eventually punching a hole in the tank lid. simply put, you are hurting your chances for the operator to leave you an exceptional skate surface for your activities by ruining your $85K machine, give or take a few bucks. Yes, buying a zam is similar to buying a Porsche and should be treated with so much respect. The Zamboni is absolutely the best most amazing tool invented for creating fantastic ice but its still only as good as the operator. No offense to any other resurfacer operators out there.

Not usually. The snow taken off is often dirty from skaters transferring dirt from the floor to the ice via their skates, not to mention the occasional dropped sweet wrapper etc. Heating the snow to melt it and then filtering it would be expensive so you may as well use fresh water!

@MrEversginger 11 жыл бұрын
when the "snow" is dumped do they keep it and heat it and apply it back on the ice later?
