You putting this wahipana on youtube for all good and bad visitors makes me sick. We do not need our community exploited and seeing hundreds of hikers come this way because of your video. I can see if you just went hiking without naming places. Then you also filmed the Heiau. You are obviously not from here and trying to make a youtube name for yourself by documenting and exploiting our home. This is the worst kind of youtube channel. Yeah go ahead and look at my youtube. I have been using a Garmin Orgon 450T GPS unit to navigate the preloaded hiking tracks and record the new tracks. It uses 2 AA batteries that last over 15 hours. I also carry 2 extras. As a backup for both navigation and recording, I use the Ride with GPS app on my phone.

Two men arrested, charged with trespassing at Oahu's 'Stairway to Heaven' By Matthew Nuttle Jun 24, 2024 Updated 4 hrs ago 2 haiku stairs HONOLULU (Island News) -- Two men were arrested and charged after police say they were caught hiking the Haiku Stairs on Sunday. Honolulu Police (HPD) first received the call about the hikers around 4 a.m. on Sunday, a source told Island News. The caller told police they witnessed the men going up the Haiku Stairs. State, county close all access to Haiku Stairs NEWS State, county close all access to Haiku Stairs By Kristen Consillio Around 7 a.m., officers spotted three hikers coming down the stairs. As the men descended the stairs, they jumped off the trail, went across the mountain, and entered into a residential neighborhood. Officers continued to search the area and eventually caught two of the hikers near the corner of Lolii Street and Noii Place around 9:45 a.m. The two men were identified as 25-year-old Yoon Park and 25-year-old Alexander Pedersen. Park was visiting from Texas and Pedersen was visiting from Denmark, according to a source. Both men were arrested and charged on one count of second-degree criminal trespass. They were charged and released on $100 bail. Both Park and Pedersen are scheduled to make their initial appearance in court on July 23. According to a source, the men belonged to a hiking group on social media. Since April, there have been approximately 15 arrests and 80 citations for trespassing -- not including the two most-recent arrests, a city spokesperson told Island News. Violators face up to a $1,000 fine and 30 days imprisonment. "Dismantling operations have begun, and hikers are putting themselves and others in danger when going to the area," the spokesperson said.

Sorry for my late entry here. I was gone trekking for 16 days in Nepal. I will post some videos soon. Well, the stairs have not been removed yet. Back in 2021, the Honolulu City Council voted to remove the stairs and appropriated close to $1M of $2.5 (Contract to remove) in fiscal year 2023. Next year, maybe in 2024 it will appropriate $1.6M, and start to remove.

The title of this video is a bit misleading since you actually hiked the trail from Moanalua. Technically, you hiked part of the "Haiku Stairs" trail from the Omega station at the end of the trail down to the block house that was used to haul up the materials for the antenna and then back to the antenna., You didn't hike the full trail from Haiku on up to the antenna and back down to Haiku as I presumed from the title. I know, I'm being somewhat nitpicky, but, clearly, the title ought to reflect the hike you did, which is deserving of great respect as well. That is not a hike for an inexperienced hiker and appears to be quite difficult. Nice video footage. Well done! I don't know what the condition of the remainder of the actual trail is like nowadays, but when I did it back in 1981 it was in pretty decent shape. That was when the Coast Guard was in control of the stairs and you had to stop in at their offices to sign a waiver before accessing the trail. In spite of two weeks of agony after the fact (my quads were in serious pain after that climb and descent), I will never regret having hiked it back then. Views were spectacular on both sides of the Ko'olaus and the Windward side views were as yet unspoiled by the H-3. 🤙

It's illegal to hike from the North Side. If get caught, its fine is over $2k. You are right that we hiked from the South side. And we probably hiked down and up about 1/2 way. Per the City and County, Its stairs will be removed soon.
