lol, postures don't matter? how do disc injuries develop? they just happen? They develop from repeated poor movement patterns and loading in poor posture, when you have an existing injury that is aggravated by a certain posture, it absolutely! causes pain. ridiculous.

I can really find myself in these patients. I have also gotten bad help from health care services. But mostly i've been focusing on the stiffness and reinforcing it. Its been very hard to differentiate between made up things and actual things.

very interesting. must say I spent months in agony with my back going back and forth without any relief. told nothing wrong with it without a single person feeling my back. finally had enough after sitting on floor at work in agony one night. went to chiropractors . ten minutes later- three ruptured discs, popped and cracked. few sessions later like new. should embrace "false medicines" in healthcare and alot less people would have long term issues.

You. You.. Do not KNOW no matter what you think...back to your science!! Maybe you'll noodle it out on day. Sometimes you gotta just accept that the 75 year old guy is telling! It's not comfortable talking about it! I was Proud of my health & Vitality! Maybe too much so. But now I am mortally wounded. Bed bound due to constant severe pain, punctuated by ANY movement. It is awful. It came from Somewhere. It was not there. Then it....developed. I had a major abdominal surgery, I had a fall and a significant concussion impairing my mobility. I had some of life's disappointments, like everyone. Out of Something this back & hip pain developed. Leaving me to try & cope with it.

Greetings from Canada where I trained in PT. I realize that you have contributed to challenging many very traditional beliefs closely held by many, and I know there are a few others who seem to share some sense that change is necessary, but I have to be honest, I don't know how much hope can be realistically afforded PT in moving into the future. Nicholls, others use a vocabulary that is completely foreign to 99.9% and that is only related to his background in sociology. The psychological aspects are yet another domain that seems completely alien. Listening to Oliver Thompson et al, on Words Matter is both fascinating, but again, as if a completely different planet. How do you keep going? Thanks for posting info.

Physio’s I have seen via the nhs have worked wonders for me, but my pain wouldn’t have disappeared without me being very disciplined in completing my ‘prescribed’ exercises, only bug bear, physios don’t ask about how comfortable our furniture is, so you still need others help and advice, or end up buying something mediocre in terms of helping, but I am certainly not taking away the incredible help I have received from all the physio’s I have seen. They appear to be following this subject matters expert, school of thought, so how widespread is the dissemination of this knowledge over the past decade?Thank you.

I would very much appreciate an explanation for that. That was wonderful to see those individuals turn their life around. I'm 46, I have a history of trauma and injuries and I work as a physical therapist assistant. The narrative "brace your core and be careful how you lift" is passed out as often as MD's pass out scripts for pills and it perpetuates the pain cycle. It's like driving with the parking brake on. It seems the key is to engage the muscle of the body not brace and force into submission. I do understand the value of correcting postures, movement patterns and muscle imbalances to help bolster and protect the joints, but what made such a huge difference with these individuals. I would like to know as I have back pain and have bulging discs, facet arthritis and an annular tear and I'm tired of being in a holding pattern and watching the days go by and not doing the things I enjoy.

I’m studying clinical exercise physiology, and our lecturers are referring us to these videos to guide how we manage our patients with pain. Peter O’Sullivan’s work is gold, and I highly encourage everyone to rethink their pain - is bending/lifting really going to cause pain or injury recurrence, or is it a pain belief system that needs to be addressed? Sometimes our beliefs about pain are like a self fulfilling prophecy...
