Once in a while I hear a song for the first time, and it stuns me. I hit the repeat button and play it over and over. This happened to me with "Thrasher." Even though this song is specifically about his relationship with CSN at the time, it is universal. I think it speaks to anyone who has searched for a way of life true to themselves, which usually means leaving others behind.

i wonder who really writes some of neils songs cause they sure ring true in me, but neil aint me and he seems to mix some great ideas , with no idea why they work. he did come from the laural canyon cia days. you cant say nothing about the dead without including neil and manson. he is a great story teller, i can smell the hay he hides behind when the thrashers went by.

Saw Neil in 1987, “Neil Young and Crazy Horse in a rusted garage” tour. The best ever! “Rust Never Sleeps” props, Steve Clone tech crew, RC rats and cockroaches, oversized telephone. Neil having goofy fun. Not a big fan of recent old Neil live shows. Ragged, but not glorious..
@kingboagart8993 жыл бұрын
Amazing to see Stephen and Neil rocking together into their old age. Saw them together the first time in the old Seattle Arena 1968 Buffalo Springfield, they opened for the Beach Boys Wild Honey tour, then came back on stage and all rocked together for the last 45 minutes of the show. Seen them all many times since, solo and together, together always seems to have a certain indescribable energy. Thanks for the upload!

This song doesn't seem to get the credit it deserves. Apart from Neil's well known songs, this to me is none special song. Bit of a folkie one but great song none the less, and i rally enjoy playing and trying to memorise the great lyrics in this song. Long Live Neil. Greendale was also one of my favourite albums even if it was later in his career. Awesome storied album and was fortunate enough to see the live show at the Sydney Myer Music Bowl Malborne 2003

If Neil had only written two songs, this and Powderfinger he would still be one of the greatest songwriters of all time. The fact they are on the same album and not even his greatest album says all you need to know about the genius that is Neil Young.
@GiuseppeGazerro3 жыл бұрын
Couldn’t agree more. Add to what you say that both songs have never been recorded “properly”, that is in a studio version. Thrasher, in fact, has never been recorded elsewhere, not even in concert; an ordinary effort, to him. Yes, definitely one the greatest musical genius of the rock century.

i would put lyrics from "after the gold rush" in the mix, ~lyin in a burned out basement with a full moon in my eyes/ hopin for replacements when the sun burst thru the sky/there was a band playin in my head & i felt like gettin high/ thinkin about what a friend had said i was hopin it was a lie.../thinkin about what a friend had said...i was hoping it was a lie.~ love seeing pics of him & Dylan together, they're both from up there in the frozen food section...& yeah, ive seen those thrashers & combines up in Minnesota, how Young puts that in as metaphor for the inevitable, that is gold...

When i was 14, a teacher we had, a subsitute really, showed me this. I was going straight to the Punk/rock way. But god damn, i never forget that, and Neil has been with me since those days. This song really is stuck in my soul, and Neil as well of course.

yeah, about that age, gettin high with my friends, all Led Zep heads,& a neighbor girl invited us over, sat us down & put Neil on a old turntable, yeah," who is this?" & i also love that he's sellin all his old stuff & stream-lining , for that time "to give what's mine"
