Nice comparison. Gotta say, there are not many things I dislike about this camera, but colour science still doesn't seem to be as good as Canon or RED, it's just more of a flat video-like image rather than filmic and more dimensional. Subtle, but it's there. Maybe someone will eventually crack it with the right LUTs or something.
@angryrabbitproductions1690

Thanks for watching… and for the comments. I love to engage with fellow filmmakers. Don’t be too harsh on Sony. It’s easily my lack of skill color grading. Yesterday I decided to pull out the Ninja V to see how different raw looks from the Sony. I can’t say it’s an “in your face” difference. You gain maybe a half stop more dynamic range… Which is only perceivable if you pay very close attention. That said… and again it could just be my CG skills, but the image feels thicker, if that makes sense.
@p_adam19
@p_adam19 4 ай бұрын
@@angryrabbitproductions1690 I am not trying to be harsh, I just comment on what I see everywhere with my eyes regarding A9III footage (so it's not your grading). Canon has many idiotic things like level disappearing during recording and so on (unless one uses R5C...), Sony having a much more useful two-way tilting-flipping screen etc. But the video image in my opinion is more pleasing in general, and the potential loss of 1-2 stops of dynamic range does not irritate me as much as colours. Maybe it can be fixed, I just don't think it is that easy in every situation. Consistency is the key, if the colour science is less good then it will behave differently in different lighting etc. Cameras like a 5D Classic or Nikon D700 have no video capability at all. If they were able to shoot video, colours would surpass the hybrid cameras of today, they are far easier to post-process and both look amazing. I like the 5D III raw video colours too, but the usability and quality is too far from today's standards. i really don't get why we need to step back in these fronts, but over time I suspect AI may provide new in-camera solutions to better replicate certain looks of old models, etc. I had the Leica SL2, quite poor video specs with line-skipping, stupid fixed screen, but colour rendition was quite pleasing, so I may try to score an SL2-S next.

I’m sorry that you couldn’t hear the end. I generally try to balance the background 2/3rd lower than the voice track. I might have made a mistake. Regarding focus, the anamorphic are not as sharp as modern lenses, so I believe this might be interpreted as being out of focus. I monitored focus with peaking and used a wireless follow focus to dial it in. So it should have been pretty close. Thanks for watching and for the feedback.

Thank you very much for your effort to make such video. 2:44 Just after the highlighted text, it is written "However, the richness of colors is better with redcode raw as colors quickly lose saturation in underexposed areas with the sony A9 III." This is a common issue with the hybrid or small form factor cameras. Who ever suffered from this, understands the issue well. Secondly I dont have any experience with A9III, but so far I heard the colors and dynamic range out of this camera is not so good, most probably due to the sacrifices in order to make it a global shutter camera. You are the first who praised A9III in that matter that I have seen so far, which makes this video more interesting.
@angryrabbitproductions1690
@angryrabbitproductions1690 4 ай бұрын
Thanks for the detailed comments. In regards to color vs the red… the Red tends to shift green whereas the Sony becomes desaturated. IMO, the end result is similar, colors are lost. I think perhaps desaturated might even be easier to deal with vs everything becoming green cast. But I’m not a colorist. When it comes to dynamic range… well, I bought this camera thinking I was going to prove that the dynamic range was rubbish… remember, I’m a Red shooter. Perhaps subconsciously I wanted to prove that Red had a monopoly on global shutters. But after shooting with it, both in stills and video, I feel the dynamic range is on par. I tested against numerous cameras… the Canon Eos R3, Fujifilm XH2S, GFX100 II and the Red. After exhaustive testing I was satisfied that the dynamic range was actually pretty good. But more importantly, the exposure latitude, which is how much you can recover in shadows or highlights is easily as good if not a little better than the Red. I wanted to hate this camera, I went into this testing admittedly biased; But the Sony won me over. If you’re curious, perhaps try renting one?

@@angryrabbitproductions1690 Very interesting news for me. Thank you again. Shame on Sony that they did not do what you did. Their marketing was targeting outdoors flash photographers, event and action photographers. Though, I am shooting on Fujifilm xh2s. I actually suffered recovering colors on the heavily lifted areas. It may be due to my experience using davinci resolve, I dont know. But I feel Red is much better on this. (just feeling) If A9III has at least the same exposure latitude with RED (in general) with global shutter and with such ease to stabilize using gyro data, for me and for my expectations from a camera A9III would have been a good match. I will certainly grab a A9III for several days somehow and experience and compare it to other cameras that I have, especially to my RED komodo x. Thank you very much you made me sad and regret buying komodo x 😀. Just joking. 👍 I wish you the best with your underrated channel and with all of your works.

I drifted over here after spending all kinds of time watching reviews of audio XLR interfaces and mixers. With this model, you get the convenience and mobility of hotshoe powering, with fewer cords, offset by the reduced latitude that a small audio interface offers. I liked your demo of a gain hungry dynamic mic, but I wasn't sure of your message. Are you saying the cloud lifter is necessary, is the Tascam by itself unable to power the Shure XM7B? Other interfaces at this price point are able to power that mic to full volume without anything else. Many amateurs would be happy with a bare bones option that doesn't require much else. Price wise the interface is expensive when one looks at similar devices with more features that are not hotshoe mounted, even within the Tascam line.
