dumb question but if the covers are cracked or missing bolts will that cause a significant oil leak? Sister has this car and some shade tree mechanic changed her timing belts and now there is a slight leak by the AC compressor. I can't tell if it's coming from around the timing belt covers or maybe it's time for the oil pan gasket to be changed

Heads up to anyone that sees this needing to find timing, left cam has 2 dimples in the cam about 80-90⁰ to the right of the yellow mark, line them up to the 2 notches above the cam.

How the hell do you remove the left timingbelt cover without braking it.. and the idler pulley and bracket withou swearing.! Puting it back was even worse. Had to remove the alternator and AC compressor to get any access.

Can you carefully screw the caliper piston back in with channel locks? I wouldn't think there would be much resistance screwing them back in if everything is in working order.

Great video. Btw, what's the direction of rotation of the engine? I've got a rattle/rumble that happens at low rpms and goes away above 1000. I'm pretty sure it's the timing belt tensioner so I figured I'd do the timing belt, water pump and tensioner all in one go.

@@boatdude12 It was a bad tensioner and idler pully bearing. Also the bracket that holds the idler bearing is warped on a lot of these 626 cars, so even if you replace the bearing it will fail again the same way. My harmonic balancer failed also in the same period.

TIP- Spray the piston boot with WD-40 or a spray lubricant before you twist your piston in, or it may start to twist and possibly rip. aswell as your twisting the piston in your boot may have an air bubble you can burp it by carfully sticking a small screw driver against the piston and the boot and the pressure will release

Bad idea as WD-40 eats rubber.(Unless buying specialized WD-40 specifically safe for rubber) Best to use fluid film or something akin to that.

@@Alex-uj6sq Certain types of rubber will swell upon prolonged immersion. There are applications involving rubber and some plastics, which should be approached with caution or avoided when using WD-40®. Always test surface first. Right off there website, worked fine for me. had no problems with swelling rubber or anything. I've used wd 40 on many different types of rubbers without any issues.

I just changed my 2008 Saturn 3.5L Spark Plugs, Spark Plug Wires and Ignition Coil.. The info online makes this repair seem very difficult.. Some instructing you to take off the Intake Manifold.. FALSE. I didn't to do any of that.. It was a piece of cake to do.. My car runs Excellent.. I should have done a video on the repair.

Old comment, but you loosen the nut (17mm) on the idler pulley associated with the tensioner then use a 10mm socket to back off the idler pulley from the belt to loosen it enough to remove the belt. To get to the power steering belt, you have to remove the AC/alternator belt
