What’s the justification for the box?? So many other tricks do that routine so much better and cleaner. It’s a clever gimmicked box but that’s all the effect is.

I changed the method up a little bit. First I put a crystal and an envelope that contains 5 ESP cards and I take out the crystal and cards, but I don’t mention that there’s anything else in the box then I let them hold the crystal and I let them that they will feel drawn to one symbol and the lay the crystal to any of the five cards and will always be correct.

Unique and INTERESTING spin on a magic review here, guy! 👏👏 I will now have to peep your other material. ✌️ **EDIT: Scratch THAT! This cat vaporized over two years ago. What a waste of a much-needed angle in YT magic reviewing.

There are better ways to create the same exact effect without any gimmicks. So is it worth it? No! It's just a toy for magicians. And it's to big for walk around. And to small and not good enough to do for a stage piece. Maybe parlor but it just isn't worth it to me for what the effect is.

I hate these 2.0 versions of tricks that come out. I've spent good money on the first version, why would I want the so called better version. It takes an brave man to admit that he's screwed up. Credit where credit is due. A lot of people can learn from these videos.
@stevenholt56927 жыл бұрын
These videos are great. Great advice & knowledge from a working pro. Very useful videos indeed. Some magicians would charge a fortune for this type of knowledge & information. You've been away for too long.

or when they make "reaction" videos to other magicians and call them names and make fun of their performance and they use their popularity to encourage the younger generation to do the same?

Great to see you back! Yes, that's so true about magicians loving toys -- I just love me some gimmicks, even the ones I won't use, because I love to see the way things work. I do try however to keep my focus on the basics of technique so that I could perform without gimmicks if called upon to do some magic. I don't want to become too reliant on gimmicks (though that doesn't stop me from buying them!). Sometimes though gimmicks can be a good way to give myself an incentive: I have a couple of gimmicks that for optimal effect require mastery of a few things I'm just not that good at yet, so having the gimmick is actually like a carrot on a stick for me to master those techniques.

So you are saying there shouldn't be any new methods for bill switches? The only switch magicians have to do it the $100 bill switch or extreme burn?

You could easily tie this with an ambitious card to wallet, it would make sense too. After showing the coin going through the card you do a Jerry Andrus Zone Zero type thing ..card ends up in the wallet after a phase or two ,always after the big bucks!...retrieve it, pop a coin out of it like it's stolen your money.. then hand the card out immediately. I'm speaking aloud but it might be ok if you could get the phases right.

So it's not a good trick for table hoppers - so what ? It's probably also not a good trick to perform on the beach or in a jungle. Funny how David on WPR or you seem to automatically equal magician=table hopper. Most magicians i know don't do table hopping at all but Parlour or Close Up etc. The only downside i see with the trick is it might be too perfect, i.e. what do you want to perform afterwards, especially with card tricks ? I probably would perform it as a closer.

Why doesn't Rick Lax spend more time producing a decent DVD or product rather $6-$9 downloads on Penguin Magic? Seems to me he's becoming the Sankey of Penguin Magic...
@TheRussianGenius7 жыл бұрын
It makes more sense to make downloads rather than DVDs if it doesn't require a gimmick to be shipped. It's not bad if he is becoming the Jay Sankey of Penguin Magic, is it?

Perhaps a little overemphatic, as Richard Stokes said, but this will fly by most of those who watch this. I'm guessing it's down to your Motivation Speaking coaching.. :-) As a worker of many years, I agree with your comments 100%. Esp the copy and trailer hooker. Think up good copy, then make it fit..completely glossing over the iffy bits. I disagree with Richard Stokes - you SHOULD review the bummer effects. Apart from anything else, it would seem to confirm your impartiality. Well done!

Your assessment of the trick is fair enough and probably valid, but you come across as over-emphatic and this tends to drown your message. You're like a novice writer who underlines words and ends every sentence with an exclamation mark!!! You also say things like 'I don't mean to suggest this product was rushed...' etc when in fact you are implying this. And if a product is such crap, why bother reviewing it? Maybe concentrate on the good material (e.g. The Gift) but add tips or improvements.

Craig, learn to look into the camera while talking. It's irritating af watching you watching the monitor instead of speaking to your viewers. It's way more connecting and really YT 101. Just sayin :)

I don't agree. First of all, if as you said the effect is the same to the spectator as the $100 bill switch but Insta-Change is easier then that surely is a positive thing, no ? Second, as with all tricks, it's a matter in which situation you perform it. Why should the receipt be examinable ? It's your job to find a good performance routine for it, so simply do one where the receipt doesn't have to be examined. I mean, do you only do tricks where every object is examined by the spectator beforehand ? Each and every time ?? Second, the non- existent reset problem: Trick needs a reset ? Well, only do the trick in situations where an instant reset is not required. I don't get this focus on reset anyway - not everyone is a walk around magician, in fact most magicians i know are not but either perform casually for friends or have a proper, set-up show. Reset time is really only siginificant for a very specific type of magician, the walk around guy and it's about time you maybe re-think your idea of the average magicians situation (same goes for the guys at WPR who also seem to think the only existing magicians are restaurant magicians when in my experience the opposite is the case). Third, angles - i agree angles can be a problem, but duh, angles have always been an aspect to work around since the beginning of magic tricks. Not even the cups & balls are angle free, would you dismiss the trick because of it then ? Last but not least, by your logic one could argue that a method with a TT has the disadvantage of having to get rid of the TT at some time, you could flash the TT and you cannot go on with the next trick before you don't get rid of the TT. Bollocks. As said, it's your duty as a magician to decide when & where to perform which trick and which method to use; almost all tricks have an issue or two, but that's because real magic doesn't exist. Your logic is flawed, really: On one hand you say "read a book" (i generally agree), on the other hand you complain if a trick is not instantly angle-free, instant resettable and not automatically examinable. Geez.
