I nearly died in 2017. I’m not the best swimmer anyway and like a stupid foreign backpacker I went into the prohibited areas following my 2 friends. I swam to the other side. Then it began raining heavily, my 2 friends jumped in and swam back first.. I then followed but a rip current appeared and it kept pulling me towards it. I have never been so close to death and I swam back to the other side. My legs blew up from all the panic kicking. I struggled to even bend them. I tried a second time with guidance of my friend but he was too light to pull me. I swam back and asked my friends to call the ranger for help. The helicopter, fire engine, rangers and parademics on quad bikes came.. I was so embarrassed and apologetic. I’m just so fortunate I survived after being told a lifeguard died the year before and I found out a Korean woman died a year after.

Dain, thank you so much for continuing to put out this information! I am looking at either a WHV visa (just to get out to Aus easily) OR the longer 189 skilled visa route. I'm looking to apply & interview prior to coming out for a quick hols in JAN-25. Do you think if I get a WHV certain employers (e.g. Big 4, consulting companies) will be put off because I'll be limited to 3 years? Or if I come out to be able to work on a WHV then apply for 189 visa in the background this may assure them? Complicated one but thanks in advance! James

It's fun to watch how different people experience same places. For me Koh Ta Kiev was one of the best places during my travels at south east asia. Swimming, reading, walking around and photographing wildlife during the day time and meeting some really cool and nice people on the evenings at the bar and camp fire. But it really is little bit Robinson Crusoe type of experience, if you are into that or love camping then you gonna love this small gem of an island.
