Nice table! I'm building a similar table, did you have any issues with using the pocket hole screws to attach the breadboards? I've watched numerous videos that say using pocket hole screws for this step will lead to splits and cracks due to the lateral expansion and contraction of the wood. Thanks in advance for your reply.

I ended up adding 2 little wedge pieces to reinforce the breadboards. It’s still holding strong today!

Has the table passed the test of time? No cracs? Cause pocket wholes are not the best for some of the joinery here.
@hatefulcrawdad1 Жыл бұрын
We use it all the time! It’s not the best table, sure. But it’s an outside table and has served us perfectly for years now. I understand it isn’t “right” but that wasn’t my intention anyway. I’m not a carpenter
@ignipes Жыл бұрын
@@hatefulcrawdad1 It's not about being right. Pocket screws are known to block natural wood movement and causing wood to split in result. I was sincirely curious if anything like that happened to your table. Didn't mean to play smart here.
@hatefulcrawdad1 Жыл бұрын
@@ignipes my apologies. I’ve had a lot of people comment on this and I misread the tone of yours. The table hasn’t split too bad but it has in some places. Overall it is still very sturdy.

@@hatefulcrawdad1 No worries. Thx for the answer.

You should have removed the screws from your gussets and could have put them on the inside, then filled the outside hole with the dowel rod. This would have. Ade the legs removable.

That's a great looking project, even though the furniture makers would see things done wrong at every step.

I think Kreg would go far to offer a torx alternative. I had a little trouble with the square Robertson screws. You have the keep them very straight to the driver. Other than that I'm pretty impressed with the strength of pocket holes. Nice work on the table and the color stain combination.

Guaranteed that table will start moving. The end pieces should’ve been cut bread board style. Need rooms for contraction and expansion

Enjoyable video, very nice table and bench, loved the final finish colours too. Kreg have an awesome you tube channel with tips for using their kits with guidance on depth of drill bits and length screws for thickness of wood. , the blue screws are more durable for outside furniture.
@reb2193 жыл бұрын
Those breadboard ends will fail in a year or two. Wood expands laterally with seasonal moisture and you have to allow the outside boards to float on tenons, or it will literally tear the boards apart or break the screws. Basic woordworking.
@hatefulcrawdad13 жыл бұрын
They are still holding up because I added some support. I'm def a wood working noob and learned a lot on this build. But its an outdoor table and it is still doing its job perfectly.

Nice job 👍 quick question. How is your Poly holding up? Isn’t that for interior only? Is your table on a covered pati or exposed to rain as well? Thank you 🙏
@hatefulcrawdad13 жыл бұрын
It could use a fresh coat at this point but held up really well over all. The table is on a covered patio and doesn't get wet unless I hose it off and wipe it down right after.

Hi, I’m currently building this exact table. I’m having such a hard time putting the breadboards on. I was going to skip the pocket hole screws and just glue, however I’m struggling to properly clamp it. When I drive the drill for the pocket holes it moves my board so I have a big lip on the top. It’s not flat and flush. So I’ll have a bunch of sanding to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
