Scratching an aluminum pot with a steel spoon is not recommended. (By me.) Use a wooden, bamboo or plastic spatula and "Bob's your uncle". Love my M-44 Mess Kit.

Great comparison. Have had my eye on the M44 for a while but they seem as rare as rocking horse teeth, especially out here in Malaysia, where it's almost impossible to get anything Trangia. I normally go to Trangia direct for my stuff, although I haven't even seen any on the vintage section of Trangia's website either. Keep up the great videos. ATVB

To the best of my knowledge Trangia never sold the M40 or M44 to anyone else than the Swedish army, and those that are in circulation are from army surplus. With that said, I've been wrong before... Cheers!

Is the trangia burner just one size? The burner doesn’t come in different sizes, does it?
@RedswedeOutdoors
@RedswedeOutdoors 10 күн бұрын
To the best of my knowledge there is only one size, and it's been the same for at least 50 years. So no matter what model you have, T25, T27, T28 or the triangle, the spirit burner fits them all. Cheers!

The secret with celery is de-stringing it before chopping. It gets rid of all the really fibrous bits leaving the good sweet stuff behind. Also, my beard is only about a third the size of yours but I get food stuck in it all the time, what's your secret?

Hello from Finland! Thank you very much for some great ideas and inspiration on what stuff to put inside this thing. I've been enjoying my "dirty can" for some time now and since day 1 with it I've been in awe on how spacious it actually is. Today however, after watching this vid, I came really close to max cap. Before I go about listing all the stuff I managed to squeeze in, a mild trigger warning (coffee cultural blasphemy ahead). I recently found a Swiss water canteen that usually comes with a very nice little aluminium cup that fits perfectly into the mess kit. I like the idea of having an extra item that can be used directly over the flame. I put the burner inside this cup, as well as a couple of wet sanitary wipes, matches, a ready to go portion of instant coffee and a "varma koppen/lämmin kuppi" pouch similar to yours. Next to the cup goes the fuel bottle and the utensils (a very smallish set, might just take it off and use a properly sized one and carry it with my water bottle or food stuff). Another small space next to the cup and fuel was filled with a trangia handle to help me out with the hot items when cooking. There was still some space left to use, and for that I wanted to have some things to help out with the cleanup, so I repurposed a tiny hand sanitizer bottle for some eco-friendly dish soap and put it in a minigrip bag with a small scrub sponge (also the burner and the fuel bottle are in their respective minigrip bags to avoid any contamination in a case of a spillage/leak). And lastly to top it all off, a microfiber towel (I might end up cutting the towel for a more reasonable size though). It's a really tight fit and things need to be put inside in a really specific order. I guess it's still a work in progress and some test runs are in order to see if some of the stuff should be put elsewhere.
@RedswedeOutdoors

That sounds like a well thought out kit for your needs. (I won't mention the coffee blasphemy, you do you.🤪) I googled the Swiss canteen and it looks to big to fit on the pics but maybe the scales don't match. No matter, good idea with one more part that can heat things up. Cheers!

@@RedswedeOutdoors Hello! Yesterday I took my stuff for a little test drive and I'm definitely beginning to lean towards of switching to a proper sized cutlery set, carried outside of the mess kit. Also the whole box of matches might end up getting swapped for the very small set (like the ones you can find from bars, promo stands and from some mre packs and such), even though I'd like to have at least a couple of storm matches available, preferably packed close to the intended use case.. maybe going for a photo roll case like you have got or something similar would do the trick.. As it's not the same to pack up the kit at your house than outdoors, I need to do some rethinking. I'm having some tough time looking for a bag or any kind of a pouch that would hold the mess kit, a 0,5l water bottle and one portion of dry food + a couple of loose items such as the cutlery set. Something that would be easy to attach into any of my rucksacks and would still be stiff enough to prevent the things rattling about.. I guess I need to start to go through some gas mask carry bags and/or some buttpack-style webbing pouches. I checked the canteen system and and the designation is m/84. The bottle is somewhat useful as well, holding up to 0,8L, but the cup was my primary reason to get it. And it being military surplus, it was rather cheap.
@RedswedeOutdoors
@RedswedeOutdoors 8 күн бұрын
I see I missunderstood you, I thought you managed to squeeze the entire canteen in the kit, but you where refering to just the mug. Makes sense now when I realize my mistake. I would recommend some sort och waterproof storage for the matches and strikers, at least I never get the kit bone dry after usage and that tends to ruin my matches at least. And in order to build the perfect kit, no method can beat "trial and error". It will be the foundation for a kit that's perfect for you and your needs. Cheers!

Great vid. I got rid of the pot stand immediately and use a tiny Lixada titanium twig stove as a windshield. It is the perfect size and It fits inside the pot and pan along with the burner, handle, a cloth, some foil to protect the ground and a lighter. The problem Trangia have is that this little kit is so good for a solo camper like me that I don't actually need to buy anything else from them. I probably will though!
