You know technically ai is sentient, people say that robots don’t have emotions and that they’re only capable of being programmed to simulate them when in reality, it’s no different then our brains, we are genetically wired by evolution to react a certain way to certain conditions and events that trigger emotions such as sadness or pain , content or empathy, if you stuck a rod in the right place of your brain, you could be happy all the time, or stick it In another part of the brain and always be mad, where no different, we can program robots to feel and react different to certain things in such a way that it simulates emotions, we are no different, robots are sentient if we program them to, the only thing we’re still working is teaching ai to learn, but other than that if you say that robots are soulless your technically saying that so are humans, we are wired by evolution to react with different emotions to certain stimuli, now think of us as evolution programming robots to do the same, it’s no different

SO thrilled to find this! I want to build something similar for an art piece I'm working on but have a question for you Thomas! What happens if the other person doesn't pick up after the rings stop? I want to setup the intercoms in more of a walkie-talkie or voicemail recording way. Where essentially someone calls the other phone and if there's no answer, they can just continue talking and leave a message or live transmission that will play through the other phone. So that if/when another person does pick it up they could they engage. Does that make sense? Ideally, it's like leaving a voicemail for a stranger and at any point they could decide to pickup and engage. So trying to figure out tech-wise how to build this :D

@@krussell__sprouts I don’t have a specific answer for you, unfortunately, but my gut tells me that a basic version of the system you describe could be built around a microcontroller. It wouldn’t be very intelligent, but it might accomplish what you’re after. :)
