If you wet the soil night before you should b able to jam the post hole digger right on in an pull up a full digger of soil. I did that when putting up a fence last year. Didn't have to go through all this...of course u have that clay soil...mine was not.
@Dynamis623623
@Dynamis623623 3 ай бұрын
wetting the soil works with clay soil too. It can even help with the rocks found in it. (As long as they aren't to big.) Just wet it & come back in about an hour. Using a hole that you started will help keep the water in the area you want to dig, Just don't put in to much. (No more than a little standing on the surface. Water doesn't penetrate clay well at all & trying to dig in a hole full of water isn't easy either.) If you are working in direst sun light you also have to be careful not to wait so long that dries up the water. (This isn't that bad. If it is then over night like you said would be best. As long as you started digging 1st thing in the morning. Which if it is thar bad you'll probably want to do most of your digging then anyway.)

Mate! You're measuring from a cut end.... You didn't check the cut end from which you are referencing is perpendicular. You need to reference the mark from the side otherwise how do you know it's square on, ie could be on a slight angle. Show me how to do that. Rule #1 NEVER PRESUME! Otherwise good on you for going to the trouble

One of the few videos that is quite good. Something that has me thinking though. I understand the reason for the expansion gap (everything expands/contracts at different rates) but, in all the videos I’ve watched including this one. The packing is left in with screws in at the same position (totally understand this), how does this allow for expansion and contraction? I’m starting to think it’s only to make the window frame easier to install…..🤔

Hi Paul. Thanks very much for taking the time and effort in making and sharing these videos. It's proven invaluable in helping me get my own project off the ground. I'm still at the design stage at the moment ahead of planning application, and would be very interested to know how the rainwater actually gets from the sloping roof and into the gutter. Do you have any sketches or photos you could share as I haven't been able to quite work it out? In your videos it appears that the vertical OSB around the roof (although you trim it down) behind the facia boards still protrudes above the rubber sheet.... Thanks very much. Graham

As you re over 15sq.m build, how have you dealt with 1 hour fire / limited combustibility of floor, walls and roof within 1m of your boundary?
@PaulBuildsAThing
@PaulBuildsAThing 2 жыл бұрын
The walls are plasterboard internally, filled with rockwool and are clad in a fireproof board on the outside. Roof and floor are not within those requirements as I understand it. In any case to verify I was within the regulations I sent the plans and material specification to the local authority building control to get a written exemption. This was very straightforward and I'd recommend anyone else do the same.

You should leave a 20mm gap at the bottom of the plasterboard on the walls, so if there is a water spill, it does not soak up the plasterboard!

Feel your pain. I did my whole office solo. For the plasterboard I used the 15mm thick soundboard. Was a struggle by myself but very satisfying using my brain to overcome being alone. Used the classic 2 pieces of timber to create a wedge. Also found screwing into the walls to create pegs works for holding the plasterboard. I quite liked the plasterboarding. Worst job for me was insulating the ceiling with kingspan.

Every other guide I have seen on professional sites, recommends sitting the sill on packers but here you just sat it on a bead of sealant. I wonder if this matters? Just fitting some in my garden room myself and stalled the job when I noticed this extra step in other guides. Comments anyone?

From my memory I think it depends on how level your frame is and if you need to make any correction for level and also the how even thr spacing around the window is. However, I'm not a professional window fitter so may have made a minor error here. Be interested to hear what you decide and why. Thanks for your comment!

Don’t see the need for the chem fix of pads on to the cast base pads. Great construction method and like the use of the dpm everywhere, this is what I do each time. However unless hut is going to be made of foil and filled with helium, it is not going to move, just the base alone is mental heavy. I also lay a base layer of timber panels over the base frame and construct the structure from that then add the floor insulation then another 18mm T&g floor.
