In the fifteenth installmant about building my own garden room / office / workshop space here in the UK I install the cabling for the electrical and networking/data connection to the garden office.
I'm not a professional builder and I am doing this in my spare time alongside a full time job and a family. But that means you can do it too! It's going to take some time and some of the techniques and methods I might use might not be conventional, but I'm trying to do a good job all the same. I've done a lot of research on and offline - using multiple resources, books and advice from people I know. I hope you find watching my journey through this project helpful and gives you some ideas.
There are is lots of potential for a building like this to be used as a home gym, spa, office or work space, studio for art / photography, music room, play room, games room, home cinema.
Tools used in this video:
Makita 18V cordless impact driver
Makita 18V cordlress drill

9 months on anymore videos on this project paul?

Hopefully yes. Unfortunately the last 9 months have proved busy and some things had to drop and unfortunately this was one of them. The good news is the project is finished though and I have the footage, just a matter of editing it. As they say 'watch this space!'

The roof video, man that looked good but darn expensive I think.

Hi I find these videos very interesting as I am also planning a garden office build. Would it be maybe possible to compile a list of all the materials you used and create like a google speedsheet which would be very easy to share. Also I was also planning to build a toilet in my garden office and was wondering why you put the plumbing in the ceiling. Will you cover the whole plumbing in another video?

Looking good! How well does the heat recovery ventilation work? Is it noisy?

Yeah. I'm pretty much finished here, but I haven't had time to put together the final videos. Hopefully will get a chance soon. Thanks for following along!

I got mine from 'Universal Networks'. It's SWA OM3 with LC connectors.

What are the lights you are using there, and out of interest, why didn't you got for recessed spot lights, as you have the warm roof, you have plenty of clearance.
@PaulBuildsAThing
@PaulBuildsAThing 3 жыл бұрын
I didn't use recessed lights as the gap between the plasterboard and the air barrier isn't big enough to accommodate them. You could of course push the barrier up more into the void if you wanted, but it looked a bit trickier to fix that way. In any case, the lights are 300mm x 300mm LED Panel Lights with a light temperature of 6000k - so they simulate daylight. They are dimmable though, so it can be toned down a bit in the evening!

Not sure what benifits you have for running fibre vs cat 6. Unless it's to separate your earth potential. Cat 6a should be good for 10g over 50m. And 1gig over 100m.

I mean each to their own, but it does mean I never have to worry about interference from the power cable running next to it or lightening strikes. I also get the added redundancy of 4 TX/RX pairs in a single cable which would be less conveniently achieved with CAT6. Interestingly an equivalent length and number of runs would cost about the same. Also a quick search for SFP+ 10Gb RJ45 modules show them to be about 3x the cost of their fibre optic counterparts.

Doesn’t need to be 600mm that’s for on roads and stuff you could of done 450mm
@PaulBuildsAThing

600mm was what the electrician requested.
