Yes, gear swaping is always very interesting... the outocome mostly depends on speakers and room by my/our observations. Some speakers can be very immune to changes in the system. But if it so happens, than the cables must be a reason :)))

a cv-181 is not a 6SN7 equivalent. some chinese manufacturers decided to deliberately misname some 6SN7 as cv-181 because it sounds cool. you paid way too much for those RCA. no need for that. heck, some of the tubes you reviewed are more expensive than good NOS tubes. in fact, your top 3 soundstage tubes all cost considerably more than many of the best old stock tubes. who made the stock tube?

I am looking for recommendations for an open baffle driver thats geared towards midbass . I am looking to add them to my magenpan lrs+. They are mated to a 15 powered sub which covers the deepest lower end but they are in definte need of some warmth and midbass punch. The lrs+ aren't capable of decent bass and do not like being pushed at all in those frequencies as they can't move air and distort. If you're someone who just listens to jazz ,classical or ambient stuff, they are fine as they are, but I'm not one of those.

@hificave 11 күн бұрын
I use the lii-song W15 ( 2 of em) in their own open baffle on class D amps. They perform between 30hz and 2khz. But you cross them at the frequency you want to fill the gap you are looking for. They also have a 12, 18 and 21 inch model.

I'm glad to hear that. You saved me some money for sure. I've been watching a lot of reviews of people that are really impressed with the Galion. I was getting ready to pull the trigger on it😅 I've had my Willsenton about 3 years now with only one minor problem. The factory 5U4G tubes were causing a hum. China HiFi helped me troubleshoot the problem and sent replacements within 2 weeks. I did a little tube rolling with inexpensive tubes: NOS Philips JAN 6SL7WGT (2) NOS GE 6SN7 GTB (2) NOS Philips JAN 5U4GB (2) LinLai 300B-T The pairs are all matched. They sound better than the stock tubes for sure. Not perfection for some people, but good enough for my 66 year old ears. I appreciate your honesty and enjoy your reviews. Best of luck with your channel.

Dont need one unless you want a remote for volume control. Personally, imo, in the budget friendly area, musical paradise preamp with vcap upgrade and best rectifier you can afford (ie: Nos, cryotone, linlai, even new psvanne horizon is pretty good for the price). Most preamps in the 5000$+ range will also sound amazing, its really a question of taste in sonic character at that point.

Great and insightful review. I had recently swapped out a pair of the Tung Sol 6sn7GTB tubes on my Freya+ with the cryo treated Electroharmonix 6sn7 from Upscale Audio (Platinum level) and had endowed my system with similar characteristics you had attributed to the Cryotone tubes. Wonderful and warm enhancement in the mids, airie and holographic highs, and a very much welcome enhancement in the bass. The Tung Sols were quiet, but not quite as quiet as the Electroharmonix, and by comparison were on the drier side of neutral and didn't sound as lively and dynamic as I would have liked. I'm looking to replace the remaining pair of Tung Sols with some new tubes and will certainly give the Cryotones a try. Thank you for this great review.

Hi, I do like your videos. But I really miss some music run to these. I currently use mid 60s Goodman audiom 12inch full range in a DIY enclosure (I built PA stuff for 10 years and had been in the pro PA rental biz for some 5 years as well (up to 50kW and also with large horn systems 2x4 mtr mouth for big open air shows) So I know a little on what to expect and what not. Also I built a 330ltr. Scoop with different plates for 12 up to 18 inch speakers. Which currently has a 15inch Rola PA Bass mounted. Since it's vintage and I mostly listen to my system at loud levels, that 15inch is the first one which is at it limits. I also tried b&c, 18-sound and RCF 15inch speakers, which can do very high SPL easily but also don't deliver the low end with I want. And I also don't want to build a 500+ ltr. Enclosure for a 21inch PA driver. I don't have that space without ditching some more interior 😉 So I think may be one of these 15/18 inch drivers may, handle that. While the usual PA drivers have a roll of around 50 down to 40 hertz, these W-type will fit nicer in my scoop which is tuned to 30hz. Thanks for your words... And don't listen go haters. They gonna hate anyway. Your channel, your decisions. Cheers.

Hi. Love your channel and your way of getting great sound at not too high a price. Just got a pair of new W15s to handle bass below 70hz via an active crossover, powered by a Hegel H120 ( 2 x 75 W into 8 Ω and stable at 2 Ω ). For some reason W15s are crackling quite easily on reaching peaks. I would have thought that these powerful speakers would easily cope with peaks and high wattage. Wonder if you could help me out or give some advice as you must have loads of experience dealing with these speakers.
@hificave
@hificave 23 күн бұрын
Cracks? Hmmm. when using with an amp that was struggling at 2ohm, the amp would cause distortion. Does it happen when just a single coil is connected? (It has two sets of jacks on it, are they both wired or just one set?)
@TonioMallia
@TonioMallia 23 күн бұрын
@@hificave Thanks for prompt reply. I first tried single connection and then in series by having an additional short wire connection between the two terminals. So problem persisted both when using single and both coils. The Hegel amp has good current capabilities and high damping factor so I would have thought that there would be good compatibility. I realise that the W15 are quite efficient but did not expect them to struggle when dealing with peaks.

mostly from trying , I now tend to use any pair of speakers until know ,…almost as a giant pair of headphones , it almost always tends to be the best solution for me, I eliminate a lot of reflections that way, that has of course to do with the room that I have the system on , I now tend to focus on room acoustics first , and build from there ,
