Also, I don't like Calamares installer. The original openSUSE installer that few noobs complain about haves its logic as Yast itself is. Once you learn from the source, you never regret it.

Question is: do you want the impossible with a standardized and main stream like Windows or do you want to gradually tinkering, step by step and starting from (in this case) openSUSE Tumbleweed? The best choice never comes for newbies. Even the sequences on what do you need to install first is crucial. That's why I will always discourage people to chose these distro instead of the main independent ones. Wanna have the chameleon side? Go pure, go openSUSE. Wanna stay Debian? Go Debian 12 and above even if also Mint is a smart solution and more time saver, there is no shame in that. And so on. Tendentiously having the fully independent distro is something that build in your mind the IT education. The order and logic for any configuration system. Reading, learning and giving yourself the right time for your personal learning curve is a must. Linux isn't for newbies that "never have time to learn".

As system76 devs are around here, here is an idea: i think some people (me included) would like to test the alpha/beta and report some bugs if found, but are more everyday users than pros. Maybe a section on GitHub, or a Video on how to: install and use latest version (as stated in the pinned comment) and how and where to report bugs would be beneficial. On the other hand: maybe thats exactly what you don't want as it could potentially create more overhead than actual benefit? Either way: happy bughunt!

@@korigun I have an Nvidia GPU that supports 555, but for some reason, Optimus makes everything work all the time, no issues at all and I can verify that it's running things on the Nvidia GPU instead of the Intel one... It's really interesting. I recently installed Sway on my laptop running OpenSUSE with an Nvidia GPU to see if I'll get a better experience gaming on Wayland. I look like it's a "Yes" compared to my default DE - KDE. But I still experienced glitches while playing games (still an issue on Wayland + Nvidia driver). This is really early alpha. I'm not sure if it is even cooked enough to compare their design of the desktop metaphor to other DEs yet. I'm sure they will get the technicalities perfect down the line but I'm more excited to see how they approach making a new desktop distinction from Gnome and KDE. Hoping for the best of both worlds. The pretty polished intuitive design of Gnome with the pragmatism of KDE. Make video of your opinions on their design and approach once it is more cooked.

The random second display you keep getting is the same issue I had. From my research it is something to do with Nvidia GPU and using their proprietary driver. Using the open source driver you shouldn't get the ghost monitor but also performance will suffer(for now). Flickering with NVIDIA and Wayland will, within the next few months or so, very likely cease to be a problem. NVIDIA's 555 proprietary drivers have finally exposed a new API, allowing for explicit sync directly with the hardware, and when implemented into the desktops as it is with Xwayland currently, should help to remove the vast majority of visual bugs experienced without it. It's already merged into KDE and Gnome, and are idle in the code until their next releases.

It's less about what it brings to the table and more about System76 not having to deal with the Gnome team's BS. They have a reputation for being a PITA to work with. As far as Wayland goes it's newer and more secure than x11 since x11 has been pretty much dead in the water for years at this point.

Because it was the same issue with the same driver on both distros? Or because one distro actually broke the other distro install? (is that even possible??) In any case, great content. Another KZfaqr opinion was to just install Kubuntu with the most recent kernel available and go from there.

I really do respect the way the garuda folks MEAN things; they genuinely seem to have worked hard to create a distribution that makes "install this and then play a video game on it" as easy + enjoyable an experience as possible. every time I test a game on garuda & then go test it on some other distro, garuda's seamless and the other one takes at least one extra Effort Unit to get up and running.. of course, they would have won my heart anyway just by actually USING the kwin effect that makes the windows wobble around when you move them (which I have COVETED yet BEEN UNABLE to get working ever since I found out it exists), so. I'm biased. dr460nized is cool!! and scythes are cool and gunblades are cool and shadow the hedgehog is cool. I mean it. great video; I've been wondering about this & it's nice to see some data!
