I just bought the 4080 version from Best Buy. It's on sale for the first time, and there's a 15% reward promo for your first purchase on the BB credit card. Any advice for optimizing my experience besides what's mentioned in the video. I'm looking to plug into a usb c hub monitor... but still would like to use it for creative work like Premier Pro.
@JoshCravesTech
@JoshCravesTech Күн бұрын
That's awesome! So yeah, if you're using a thunderbolt hub make sure to use the USB-C port on the left side. Other than that, the settings here should get you 99% of the way there! Everything after that just comes down to personal preference and some trial and error. For example what I think is good fan noise you might think sounds way too loud, so you can make a new "Turbo" profile with lowered fans if you don't mind a bit warmer temps. Or maybe temps are your primary concern and you don't care about fan noise, then just max those babies out and max your CPU and GPU out too. Lots of potential customization but this is all a good starting point!

@JoshCravesTech
@JoshCravesTech Күн бұрын
Are you looking for a 4080 vbios? I have one in the link in the description. But yeah the 4080 is almost identical to the 4090, so you can follow this verbatim if you want. There's no extra optimization needed for the 4080 that you can't do on the 4090. Only the 4060/4070 GPUs are different enough to need different settings.

I spoke to you last year (on Reddit) about using IETS GT500 on my G14 4090 with 175w BIOS, which does great job, especially with proper re-pasting/liquid metal/expensive thermal pads. The problem with the IIano V12 is that is too big for G14 and other 14" laptops, there is (visible) air licking on the side. That's why they released the V10 which is for 13-15" laptops ideally. The IETS models on the contrary, use this dual-size foam pad (with magnets) which can be removed in order to accommodate any laptop size. The GT500 is quite loud (like IIano V12 imho) because of smaller fan (12cm not 14cm as here), but IETS has also the new GT600 line (with few variations) that has the same performance and sound levels with IIano, but I like their multiple-level raising feet better and their dual-layer dust protection compared to IIano's one level. I have also the top-spec GT626 with RGB + USB hub. In order to reach IIano's performance they've released V2 models of GT500/GT600's in order to match their performance, but with raised sound levels as well. IIano is the worst as far as I know, there are many reviews/comparisons for both pressurized cooling pads I think that you'll get much better results and lower temps with the V10 model you have to review as well, but I am afraid due to the smaller fan size (like the GT500) it will reach the same insane sound levels at max speeds. You can't have it all, but I think the most important for content-creation apps is the longevity of the VRAM, which can reach 100-105C (like the GDDR6X on desktop RTX 3090 if you can remember). On my modified G14 it reaches 90-92C without any cooling pad when rendering or using it on AI apps and will the IETS it gets around 80-84C Please post also the VRAM temps on you next review for IIano V10, because I am interested about it as well. Thanks in advance Hope it's helpful for some folks here, May the Lord bless you all!

I'd recommend using a 300W one or lowering your CPU power a bit to compensate. It depends case by case really since power adapters can vary in the "actual" wattage they provide, but for mine, as long as the CPU isn't running crazy high then it's not discharging.

Hi Josh! I want to buy a zenbook pro 14 duo 13900H 4060...I heard it uses 80 watts for the GPU...But it's a thin notebook... Sooo I would obviously buy a better adapter then the original 180W one...Would I be able to get a Vbios swap with undervolt to give the laptop atleast the performance of a normal 140W 4060 laptop? What are your recommendations? Aaand do I have to get scared of hurting it's VRMs? Would an undervolt save them? Is it safe?😐
@JoshCravesTech
@JoshCravesTech Күн бұрын
Yeah you should be safe to use a 140W 4060 laptop vbios. I wouldn't worry about the VRM's, as the GPU die is the same, it's just the limitations put in place by Nvidia that make it run lower. The VRM's should handle the extra wattage as they're designed for. Also all 4060/4070 GPUs have a voltage limit from Nvidia so it won't really go beyond 100-115W anyways.

I went with the lenovo legion 5 slim oled. The 3 things I did not like about both the G14 and G16 zepth is: 1. price. Its too much for a 4090 you cant even push to a 4080 on a big laptop. 2. The liquid metal. I had a liquid metal asus G513 and I swapped it for thermal grizzly kryosheets. liquid metal is not something I want to deal with in laptops. too many vaariables that are risky. not "can" be risky. are risky. 3. the asus power brick. Its too large for a laptop this small (I know it has to be, but still). On the other hand, surface temps for these laptops, including mine are kinda nuts. they get real hot on the keyboard. I personally only run the laptop (legion 5) on silent mode, as I am ok using lower settings in something this small. I really cannot wait for the next 6 years of improvments when we can get small laptops that run stuff really well on low power. Last thing: I am really sad MSI afterburner is kinda dead for now. manual tunning for laptops is such an amazing thing. (I know asus has its armoury crate, but its not exactly as good). And one more thing (so not last before I guess): I am a bit of a headphone nut. spkeaers in laptops suck. The alst laptop I had that had actually good speakers was the GT780 DXR from MSI. But in any small laptop you are doomed in speakers. And a really good headphone like isine10 from audeze (shit quality control, amaizing sound)... its more than a night and day difference. I think your review is above average. I like it. I hope next time I am looking for a new laptop you make a review on a laptop I want to get. You provide additional info. Always useful.
