Asus Zephyrus G15 vs Lenovo Legion 5 Pro. TDP isn't everything. Here we are again, this time the shorter version of my 45 minute review video on these two super-popular RTX 3070 laptops. PLEASE KEEP IN MIND with this video (which dives into my personal preferences) I'm talking about the Legion 5 Pro IN COMPARISON TO THE G15, not just on it's own. I KNOW IT SOUNDS LIKE I HATE THE LEGION 5 PRO. Trust me, it's a great laptop though, I don't hate it. On its own, it's awesome. I wouldn't regret purchasing it if I didn't have the G15 first. But I have preferences, I have opinions. I've extensively tested and used both of these machines and these are just my personal thoughts on them. Obviously my performance benchmarks, speaker tests, fan noise tests, and thermal tests are backed by data though so you can decide which is better there.

I know I’m a bit hard on the Legion here (it’s still an awesome laptop!) but keep in mind y’all that the title of the video is “Why I’m Returning The Legion 5 Pro”. A lot of these things are just my preference and you might think completely opposite to me, and that’s okay. This video comes from the perspective of me as a G15 owner who was expecting to be blown away by the performance of the L5P based on the insane amount of hype surrounding it. I have my preferences and to me it was a bit underwhelming for the loss of premium features and portability. I prefer the G15 after testing both so I’m keeping it. These are all just my observations after spending weeks using both laptops. Now stop hating, lol.

@@AliXalted I literally say in the video that the 16gb soldered ram doesn’t bother me. I rendered a 45 minute video (with lots of effects and layers) in less than 5 minutes with the included 16gb of ram. There is no reason to need more than that, and games are obviously running just fine too. So yes, I would take soldered ram over having to spend an extra $100-$200 to replace my laptop’s slow stock ram.

@@BlingJ. LMAO, I kinda agree because ROG is only for rich kids. But this review is very true because the fan sound on Legion 5 pro(even for the 7 gen) is super annoying, the speaker was annoying also (it's not bad but not normal), and QC is bad because my keyboard backlight doesn't work. But the price was amazing + the performance surpassed the G15 which was more expensive and that's a good deal for the full-time editor. But can't lie to the Screen that the g15 has more good. Legion 5 Pro is the beast tho.

I'm keeping my L5P because it was few hundred cheaper in EU (yeah, Asus prices are pretty high here). Also I need the webcam and don't really mind the laptop it being a bit bulky. @@JoshCravesTech Hello. I'm a business owner and need to be able to edit and store a lot of video on a machine. I also do website design so it needs to be lightning fast because doing live editing can slow things way down when dragging and dropping widgets. I also want to be able to game on it now and then with my nephews. Being a woman using it predominantly for business (editing, video, design) would I notice much of the difference in technicalities that you're talking about here in the comments with the other gentlemen? I'd become attached to the idea of a Legion 5 Pro, but I am very confused. Can't find it easily, and feel forced into the Legion 7. And a young man at the Office Store actually told me that ASUS are garbage "starter" computers. I presume that's maybe because that's what his store sold, and that there's much better models out there (and to be fair, he was a young kid.) Do you have any recommendations for me? I need Max memory and speed with excellent wifi and all of these models are really confusing. Thank you in advance if you can offer any assistance.

@@doppelrealestate For you, you couldn’t go wrong with either one honestly. I would recommend the G15 because I think the Legion would be overkill for you. Too bulky and heavy for your needs. G15 will absolutely shred in web design, maybe even better than the Legion because of the faster CPU. Also yes that guy was very wrong about Asus. The cheap, old laptops they made, sure, not the greatest. But this is a premium machine, this isn’t your average laptop. Go for G15 if: - You plan to travel around frequently with it because of lighter build and smaller charger - You value a good keyboard, trackpad, and speakers - You value color accuracy - You value having silent fans when needed Go with Legion if: - You value an extra 5% of GPU performance without hooking up to an external screen (only noticeable in gaming, not web design) - You plan to use 64gb of ram - You need that extra inch of height on the screen - You plan to use it in outside areas to use that extra brightness - You keep it in one spot most of the time so all the cables can be routed to the back and you never have to move that giant charging brick (lol) - You need a built-in webcam Also the Legion 7 is really cool too. I’m testing a 7i and it’s better than the 5 Pro for gaming and the quality of the build, but it is a very loud machine. Fans are almost always running audibly even in quiet mode. And battery life is not good. If you’re in the US, I’d bet the G15 will go on sale again soon. It was $300 off just a couple of weeks ago!

Also, I don't want a loud machine. But, I cannot see not having a Webcam in case I have a client that I need to do video consultations with. Josh, you have really provided me with such great knowledge, making it easier for me to narrow this down. I greatly appreciate the time you took to show me the differences. What a blessing. The G15 would be the perfect laptop for the price if it had a webcam and that RAM module wasn't baked into the motherboard. It definitely has its advantages, as you adeptly pointed out in this vid. The biggest advantage is its portability, which is basically what laptops are all about, even when it comes to gaming laptops. That being said, I'm ok with the compromised portability of the Legion 5 pro because I'm not toting it around in a backpack. As long as I can get it in a carrying bag and get it in the trunk of my car, I'm ok with it. For others, that better portability of the G15 is a must.

In the future, games will support upscaling a lot more often. So I do not agree on not comparing with identical resolutions. DLSS and/or FSR are already supported in many games and I believe future updates will bring that to many more games. In the future, native resolution will be much more irrelevant, which is why I opted for higher than 1080p resolution for a gaming laptop. I find it very logical to compare using same resolution.

Hi, since the Zephyrus G15 has a similar ventilation placement to the Zephyrus M16, isn't it concerning that the hot air is blowing into the screen? I was going to purchase the M16 because of its thin design and nice specs, but this aspect of the screen heating and its thermals is troubling me, so I'm thinking of going with the L5P.
@JoshCravesTech
@JoshCravesTech 2 жыл бұрын
No, it’s no issue with the ventilation hitting the bezel. I have only seen a few cases where the bezel glue was bad and the heat accelerated the issue, but that’s not on the ventilation, that’s a rare QC issue with bezel glue. People have been mining crypto on these and the M16 for months at full power/full fans with no issues so I wouldn’t worry about it :)

Tldr from all these comments: G15 is the better laptop if you care about portability, battery life, taking it around. L5 pro is better if you are mainly using it plugged in AND you are going with either 32GB from factory or are going to upgrade your stock 1xR16 to 1xR8 ram ... The way you will use your laptop is different than the way Josh will use his laptop. The L5 pro may be a better fit for you but that doesn't mean it's a better laptop for Josh, and vice versa. Even if his L5 Pro came with the better 1xR8 ram the perforance increase may not be enough to offset the other limitations ..

My G15 had 1RX16 memory soldered to the motherboard, same tRFC but slower when I compared aida64 with Jarrod's legion 5 pro video. I know that the difference in performance because of this is minimal but still all units should have the same ram since you can't upgrade the soldered one. Not including a webcam was not a good move from asus. If asus made the m16 with ryzen cpu and fully upgradable ram then that would've been the best laptop period. So I returned mine to get the legion 7. I really wanted to keep the g15 but the ram and the absence of a webcam didn't sit right with me.

For most people, Legion 5 Pro offers the best feature set and the least amount of compromise (MUX Switch, both RAMs upgradeable, has a Webcam, superior customer support service and warranty, etc.). All these options gives the Legion 5 Pro better future proofing than the G15 because once your soldered RAM goes caput within your 1 year warranty, no matter how small of a chance that is, you're SOL. Meanwhile, Ultimate Legion support can extend up to 4 years and you can get Accidental Damage Support for only $20 and if you accidentally break your laptop, they'll replace the whole system at least once. You also forgot to mention that the G15 uses liquid metal for the CPU and is the only reason why it's running much cooler. Somebody in reddit modified their Legion 5 Pro with liquid metal and got the same, if not, better than your CPU temps. Now repaste your G15 with regular thermal paste and see how much hotter it gets.
@JoshCravesTech
@JoshCravesTech 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, very true. Remember that compromise is subjective here though. I personally would not compromise to have those things at the cost of that trackpad, keyboard, weight, gigantic power brick, battery life, and iffy quiet mode. And while odds are slim that the soldered ram would be the one to die, that’s a fair point. I can’t vouch for their support as I haven’t had to deal with either one but I do appreciate Lenovo’s affordable support options!

I think you're a bit biased here. I just bought the Legion 5 Gen 6 2021 model with RTX 3060 130W and Ryzen 5800H but it has 1080p. I was getting Zephyrus for the same price but here's why I skipped it. 1. 1080p and 1440p aren't really noticable on 15' screens. Real difference starts to show at 24'. Most of the content online still doesn't support 1440p. KZfaq also has 1440 on very few videos. Your own video has 1080p max. Netflix has 1080p and 4K. Playing 1080p videos on 1440p screen doesn't look as good as 1080p on native resolution screen especially on 15' screen size. 2. Now, coming to the gaming. Competitive games demand frame rates so 1080p native is better. Story mode games are best experienced on bigger screens. On 15' 1080p and 1440p won't make much difference. 1440p instead will reduce frame rates and then add the fact that Zephyrus has 95W TGP and no MUX compared to Legion 5. To enjoy story modes the best, use an external monitor. Using external monitors, this "native" dilemma goes away and you're at the same resolution on both the laptops. 3060 130W shines here and having it is an advantage. Your tests were not exhaustive but play graphically intensive games like Metro Exodus and Cyberpunk at ultra settings on higher resolution monitors and compare 130W vs 90W on the same resolution. You'll see the differece. Even getting 10 more frames in Cyberpunk from 49 to 60 makes a huge difference. 3. Speakers: Not a big deal since laptop speakers aren't enough anyway for 5 people sitting in a room. I had JBL speakers in my previous laptop with great sound but they were still not enough when I had to show someone a video sitting 5 feet away from me. Bluetooth speakers to the rescue. 4. Battery life: Zephyrus has an advantage here. Legion 5 Gen 6 1080p is giving 6-7 hours but Zephyrus gives 10. That's the compromise. You don't game and switch to productivity every 5 minutes. So adjusting settings on Legion to get those 7 hours isn't as big a hassle as you show it to be. Barely takes 1 minute to open Vantage and windows control panel when you're finally setting up for gaming. But Zephyrus wins in battery department and portability hands down. Although, most youtubers in my region are showing that Zyphyrus is giving 5-6 hrs of KZfaq browsing. Idk what's true. Why I chose Legion 5 then? 1080p giving better frame rates in native resolution for gaming. In the near future, you won't be able to play many titles in 1440p easily. 1080p will come to the rescue then. An available MUX switch without a need of buying an external monitor. A dedicated camera without the need of carrrying one around all the time, it's a bigger hassle than setting up Legion on 60Hz and quiet mode for better battery life. You have an immediate call, where would you adjust the phone on the canteen table or a library with Zephyrus for the front camera? Better TGP GPU is going to be more future proof. An option to upgrade dual channel RAM. 10 years ago 4GB was enough. 5 years ago 8GB was enough. Now it's 16GB. Dual channel is the way to go. My Legion shipped with the faster 1xR8 RAM fortunetely. I think they've rectified this problem now. I'm not saying Legion is better or Zephyrus is better. Both have their own pros and cons but the way you're thrashing Legion and praising Zephyrus seemed like a lot of exaggeration to me.

I mean I could say you’re biased towards Legion based on this comment, lol 😂 No offense though. We all have our preferences. Remember, the video is titled “Why I’m Returning the Legion 5 Pro”. It’s not a smear campaign, I still loved that laptop. It’s just that my preferences and observations, as well as my data led me to choosing the G15. I get your reasoning though for the 1080p Legion 5. 1080p is not a bad choice. Especially for competitive games. I had a 1080p HP Omen 15 and it was awesome, but personally I did notice a boost in clarity and sharpness in 1440p with it next to my G15. Some people don’t notice it though, or it’s just not enough to justify. With QHD you can also scale things down and fill more of your screen without losing clarity. Also playing games at 1080p still looks surprisingly good for some reason on the G15. Also, I tested the Legion more with it plugged into my external monitor. It didn’t really gain much of anything by going from 1600p to 1440p, sometimes even lost fps. I also tested a couple more games recently. And yes, Control is extremely GPU heavy like Cyberpunk and it was the same thing. Just slight differences, mostly from the mux switch and not nearly as much from the wattage. Check out this video to see: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/p5qenche0Jq6p6s.html Speakers aren’t a big deal to you but they are to me and many other consumers. It’s part of the reason why people praise MacBooks. I like to use my laptop for more than gaming. I watch KZfaq videos on it, movies, etc. Having nice speakers is great so I don’t have to always worry about plugging headphones in. The mux switch is nice, but as DLSS gets better and NVIDIA further optimizes performance in games and on their cards, I guarantee 1440p will still be very playable in the future on laptops like the Zephyrus and Legion both. Your RAM argument is valid though. Although most agree that 16GB has been plenty and still will be for some time to come (unless you’re doing 8k video editing or something), it won’t be that way forever. But we’ll probably all move on to better laptops by then anyway 😂

I recently bought the Zephyrus G15 to replace my 4 year old MSI GT72VR behemoth. While I did totally love that MSI laptop it was really a pain in the ass to travel with. I took it on two deployments and several short TDY trips. The weight and ancient design of it were just annoying to deal with. it weighed over 12 lbs in a backpack with all the accessories and was a total backbreaker. It had a terrible trackpad too. The Zephyrus is better in every way. It feels premium, looks premium and performs premium. It's less than half the total weight of the MSI system and outperforms it too (of course since it's 4 years newer, but still) I'm very happy with the Zephyrus G15

I like the funny images you sprinkle throughout your videos! If you're a frame chaser, you can flash a vBIOS on the G15 to get 140 watts to the GPU. I'm a tweaker (of laptops, not meth), so I've done some stuff to my M16 to improve thermals and performance (modifications to the frame, audio and cooling systems), but I've found stock performance to be fine, so I haven't overclocked or flashed the vBIOS or anything.

Hello! I've already purchased L5p (the 3070 one) and it'll arrive in a few days. I've found this video just now. I'm a newbie to these kinda things so before the purchase was made I haven't looked at many in depth comparisons among the similar spec laptops. I actually went with a laptop because the desktop variants of the same hardware are a lot more expensive (prebuilt or not) and most importantly, non existent in these times. I know that the mobile versions of these CPUs and GPUs are considerably slower but I just wanted the best of the available options. So basically I've bought this just to play games and usual laptop stuff like browsing, content consumption and all. It'll just sit on my desk and I'll use it plugged in all the time just like any other non gaming laptop I've ever used. Most of the reviewers praised this laptop plenty and ofcourse mentioned few cons here and there just like they would for any other laptop. The very few "features" I've considered that made me choose L5p over the others are that it's got a good display (the reviewers think so anyway) and that it's got hdmi 2.1 and I've noticed that the other laptops don't. So I thought I could play some of my favourite older games on our lg oled at 4k and I was okay with lower settings and fps as long as they're playable (very amateur reasoning probably and now that I think about it Idk what kind of compatibility issues I'll have to deal with regarding hdmi 2.1). In the videos I've watched, I've noticed that the performance was pretty similar to other laptops with similar specs. I'm not a hard-core gamer and I'm more into open world single player titles and story mode titles so I'm okay with playable okay-ish framerate. Sorry for making you read something this long and boring. I just wanted to let you know my perspective so as to ask your opinion on my purchase, whether it's a bad one or not and whether it's alright for my needs because it's too late for me to consider returning it for other options as I burned my brother's money for this and I prefer not to make him mad at me for changing my mind after the purchase😅. Plus the return/replace policy isn't so good where I live. As you've noticed already English isn't my first language so I hope you've understood everything I've wanted to convey.

Hey! So based on your situation, the Legion is a perfect fit! It has HDMI 2.1 for your tv, and if you usually keep it on your desk anyway then that’s great. The Zephyrus is better for if you value portability and battery life but it doesn’t sound like that’s going to be as much of a concern based on what you’ve said so if I were you I’d go with the Legion.

Great content. Agree with everything except for the snapshot you showed on the temps. CPU clock for the Legion was at least running 800 mhz higher thus showing higher temps. Nice to see if there's any difference in terms of temps and if there's any performance gains if you underlock Legion's CPU by a bit.
@JoshCravesTech
@JoshCravesTech 2 жыл бұрын
@@Yusuf-tk2ge thank you so much! So the CPU clock speed thing can be a complex topic. On the practical side, those are the temps most people will see when using the machines. The 5900HS runs more efficiently and dynamically raises and lowers clock speed when needed depending on the task. And it does it well, with the liquid metal helping a good bit. Here’s a clip I have of it at higher clocks: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rdSYhtGHna63ioE.html The Legion was arguably running at a higher CPU clock speed than it needed to be here. However, underclocking or disabling cpu boost could hurt performance overall because in a CPU-bound scenario such as when lots of players are in one area, you might see frame/stability drops. So for me measuring in a more analytical standpoint there didn’t make as much sense but overall at high clock speeds both CPUs will definitely hit those upper 80s and possible lower to even mid 90s. This is just the case for most Ryzen processors but it’s not really a bad thing as they are designed to handle that long term. The point here was more disproving the crazy hype I was seeing on Reddit about Lenovo having “the best thermals” because it’s more so just average, which isn’t a bad thing though!

I am a legion 5 pro owner and when people ask me if I recommend it I typically tell them no. The truth is that when Lenovo added that "pro" tag it really stands for "workstation" or "desktop replacement". The legion 5 pro is a masterclass in knowing your use case. I have a desktop that has all the latest and greatest stuff inside and no reason for a gaming laptop when home. But when I travel for work 50-70% of the year (even during c19) I need a personal computer (not the company) that I can game on run a test server etc. So I upgraded my legion with 8tb of storage and 64gb of ram. When it's setup in my hotel it's always with an external keyboard and mouse (the built in ones drive me up the wall). So I have worked around the issues of the legion 5 pro. If I was only gaming on this laptop and not a portable server then yes the Asus g15 would be king. But based on what I carry with me the legion is kick ass.

My only regret was that I didn't get a better GPU. My Legion has the RTX 2060 (6GB GDDR6). No slouch, but still I'm missing out on FPS's and overall headroom. I did upgrade mine to 64GB RAM and that helped out a lot. Side by side you might notices some differences, likes and preferences, but regardless these are the only 2 brands I'd buy a gaming laptop from. Great comparison video Josh. Quick question, you touched on portability, but how do the touchpad/trackpad on the G15 and Legion 5 Pro compare? There are times when I simply need to send an email to my boss or submit my timecard at home, so being able to quickly do that without having to power on the mouse etc would be nice. Hmm, I'm not sure what to say about this since it's kinda all over the place, but I do understand that you prefer Asus Zephyrus G15 due to it being more portable (lightweight and slightly smaller), better speakers, touchpad, software and battery life. In the end of the day, it's all up to you on what kind of trade-offs you're fine to live with, as long as you felt comfortable to use it daily. But I do have to wonder on what kind of tool you used to measure the FPS for games? Cause I personally use MSI Afterburner (+ Rivatuner) for precise FPS measurement (as it's done by a lot of PC reviewer), and I'm not sure how good is Nvidia's own FPS counter. Also, having 40% more TDP doesn't mean 40% more performance, with that said, the Legion 5 Pro is still a great gaming laptop if you're not moving around a lot and don't have an external monitor. But I do recommend to get at least a laptop stand or cooling pad if you're using Legion 5 Pro on that one place (which I think you forgot to say about the G15, which is having ergonomic design which lifts the bottom of the laptop for airflow). If you ask me what laptop I'm using, I got myself the ROG Strix G17 2021 since Legion 5 Pro isn't available at my country 6 months ago.
@JoshCravesTech
@JoshCravesTech 2 жыл бұрын
I used MSI Afterburner when I could. But for some reason Afterburner no longer works with Call of Duty and some other games (because of anti-cheat I think) so I used Nvidia overlay there. However, I recorded my averages and these are my actual and accurate results. But I get you, my personal preference is that I like the portability and premium features of the G15. People don’t like that I have that opinion though. Also I’ve literally shown that the 40% more wattage doesn’t do much of anything versus just the mux switch itself. This points out a potential issue with Lenovo or Nvidia (I’m not entirely sure as I’d need more laptops to test) that people obviously aren’t ready to talk about because they’d rather get angry and defensive.

Hi Josh, thank you kindly for your informative video without and advice or sponsorship by one of the companies. I never owned a gaming laptop, only had a (gaming) pc till now. I’ve spent days and multiple hours on reviews, fact sheets and opinions. At first I was looking for a (gaming)notebook within the price range of EUR 1200-1600, then it started to go higher with every comparison. I realized to spent at least EUR 1800 or 2000 to have a system which would satisfy me for at least 5 and 6 years. I am not a gamer, would consider myself as an enjoyer, but when I buy something than it has to be the “perfect” choice. I also got my attention on the Lenovo i5 pro, since is really hyped up and goes mainstream at the moment as I noticed it in every comment section on (vs) videos, but I love the unique design of Asus ROG Zeyphyrus series. In terms of power I preferred the Lenovo, since it provides a higher average of FPS by 15% - before I’ve spotted your video. Now I am very curious and really want to know your and others (FREE and NEUTRAL) opinions, since you don’t have any advantage about my decision. Last and not least, there is also Aourus 15 X5 around with an Intel i7 12700H, RTX 3070ti purchasable for EUR 2000, which is the cheapest among of my favorites. What would you recommend and why? I think it's based on supply and demand from Asia to Europe. Most Asian gamers tend to buy ASUS products way more than Lenovo. I think it has something to do with Asia not exporting enough to Europe since America is a better market for gaming laptops so the ones that ASUS does send over to Europe tends to be much fewer. The reason I say this is because ASUS laptops are priced slightly cheaper in Asia especially when converting the exchange rates. Sucks for the rest of the world with lower stock but since every gaming thing is manufactured in Asia we sometimes get better prices and picks. I mean you can pick up a 3060, 3070, 3080, 3090 here no problem in Korea and it's not upselled in price like the rest of the planet right now.

I really dont think the data shown here in this video is accurate. Especially when the tests were being made, I am kinda suspicious that the there was some kind of deliberate sabotage, like artificially blocking exhaust ports to raise temp leading to worse performance (exhausts and all are deliberately not in the video frame when displaying the comparisons) . keep in mind that for all tests, the legion has higher resolution, and a lower series processor, and inspite of that it edged out the G15 for most performance tests.

@@tirthanandi9623 You’re joking right? Look at my longer video of this comparison. I literally show side by side footage kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bZuSZLCVmZrQZIE.html Claiming deliberate sabotage is ridiculous, I bought the Legion 5 Pro because I was genuinely curious as to how it would compare to the G15. I couldn’t find any numbers out there on the G15 in dGPU mode or the Legion in hybrid so I wanted to see how these two truly compared when on an even level. My results were surprising to me to find out that there is diminishing returns on wattage, which is why I made this video about it. I spent weeks using both laptops, with dozens of hours on each testing, getting averages, and retesting. The Legion has slightly more pixels to push out but the difference is so small that even when dropping the Legion down to 1440p in games it barely does anything, if anything at all. Also most people will be playing in the 1600p resolution anyways so it makes more sense to test it that way. Legion 5 Pro owner here. I have the 3070 and you'll only love this thing for: 1. The majority of the ports are behind, which I prefer the most. 2. Quite silent even playing at ultra. 3. Doesn't have high thermals, so long as you use it where there's adequate ventilation. 4. FPS galore. 5. Aluminum body bodes well for build quality and heat management. 6. Keys feel and type okay for me. 7. Physical switch for the webcam, because spying is bad. 8. If I'm going 15.6" and above, I'd like a numpad with it. This won't be used purely just for gaming and not having a good numpad sucks for doing work. You won't like this for: 1. Washed out HDR (like what you said) 2. Poor sound (idk but almost no bass or nothing at all) 3. Why lift at the gym when you can just bring this? Including the brick. 4. Again, that heavy ass brick. 5. You'll only enjoy using this when it's charging from the wall because most people would use it this way. 6. Subpar battery life outside the wall socket (I get 3 and a half hours max unplugged) 7. If you're into RGB, just get the 7. 8. Lenovo and their shady claims about this coming with an Intel AX210 or equivalent WLAN card, and bad RAM (shortages maybe?), I got this with a Realtek chip. I got mine from the factory with 2 SKHynix 1TB SSD's and 32GB of RAM, so I'm not going to feel getting left behind by every new machine coming out after this, even by the 3080's. @@JarrodsTech Yo!! I’m star struck, Jarrod is on my channel. The fact that you even went through the comments enough to find this 😂 I love it. But yeah you’re right, I got a lot of data and valuable info from your “tested in __ games” videos on each laptop which show native res and it’s awesome. I think what Ahmad is trying to get at here is it would be cool if in your overall review videos where you go over every aspect of the laptop, if you would also include a QHD comparison chart for the laptops that you’ve tested that are QHD (or QHD+), since you already have the data anyway from the game testing videos. Especially with QHD laptops becoming more common it would help a lot as a lot of people are not going to search for or just won’t find your native res testing videos for each laptop. But that’s just people being lazy. The fuzzy part is whether to put QHD+ laptops in the same chart or to only put their 1440p testing results in there. Putting 1600p (L5P) against 1440p (G15) is more practical because that’s what people will be playing at and the difference isn’t that much, but 1440p vs 1440p is more analytically correct. Also a personal request from me would be to have a hybrid vs hybrid and dGPU vs dGPU (which you show occasionally on SOTR) chart but that is a crap ton of work and you already do so much. That’s kinda why I started making these videos actually because I couldn’t find that info from any reviewer.

Could you please tell me if the Lenovo Vantage App, can you adjust the fan speed same as MSI or ASUS, or are you stuck with just a slight adjustment on the fan speeds, I have seen may complaints about this in the forums.

@JoshCravesTech 7 күн бұрын
You are stuck with very slight fan speed adjustments, and laptops before 2023 don’t have this or it’s a very limited version. The Lenovo Manual fan curve is designed mostly for increasing fan speeds instead of decreasing fan speeds.

Hi! Do you think the strix one could outperform the zephyrus 15? Being that it has Ryzen 9 HX 3070 32 ram and one TB ssd, meaning to use it for video editing fan edits lol lots of AE and plug ins
@JoshCravesTech
@JoshCravesTech 2 жыл бұрын
Yes the Strix should outperform the Zephyrus by a little bit. Especially when hooked up to an external screen. Not a night and day performance boost but it will definitely be there thanks to the combo of better CPU, a bit more wattage, and 32gb of ram. It will handle all sorts of video editing with no problem!

@gr00vyrat78 2 жыл бұрын
@@JoshCravesTech so basically the zephyrus has better screen resolution ? Since it is QHD. But the other one has more potential 🤔 this is a hard choice, do you know by any chance which one has received the least amount of complaints ? 😭
@JoshCravesTech
@JoshCravesTech 2 жыл бұрын
@@gr00vyrat78 yeah it depends on if you want QHD or FHD. FHD will give you more fps but QHD will look sharper. I don’t think there’s a ton of issues with either one, just get what works best for you! And be aware there’s always a possibility to receive a lemon no matter which one you get. But you can always RMA if so.

Guys chill it's a "personal perspective" review. My l5p 3070 is slaying in gaming which is my primary usecase. Ofcourse using external keyboard/mouse. Thermals are acceptable also. Ram upgraded to 32 gig dual rank, running 2*2tb of xpg GAMMIX S70 ssd with that stock heatsink removed. The whole package is just perfect for my use case.

Just ordered my g15 yesterday after a lot of consideration and research, for me the portability, better design and the battery life are more important than getting 5-10 more frames. Soldered ram is not something you wanna see in a laptop at this price range but you have to compromise somewhere and 16 gigs is plenty for me for the foreseeable future. I intend to keep this device for a long time say 4-5 years and when we start seeing more thin and light gaming laptops in the market (probably soon) the legion 5 pro will quickly start looking dated. I mean I would be embarrassed to carry around that huge thing with me when there are other options out there. I would have gone for the M 16 but it is way too expensive in my region in comparison to these two. Great video, thanks.

@Josh Cravey i was gonna buy a laptop in best buy but here was a payement problem. Next week i find this laptop for less money since it was on sale, i really don’t understand laptops much but this one was a 3060 not a 3070. It was still all good tho. In robloxit ran 138+ fps with an unlocker since the luncher maxes at 60. In other games that in downloading soon like forza. I seen many videos and im amazed that it was running about 100+ I know really Greatful that payment problem happened since i got this absolute beast. I started seeing reviews yesterday and even tho there is many competition for other laptops. This laptop was having many better performance and is on bar with many laptops. I love your channel and I will see more of your reviews on other laptops or maybe this one. Thank you for making this amazing, well detailed review.
