Very informative, good presentation and great playing. Really close to pulling the trigger on the 4 string version of this in black haha. Thank you for taking the time to review it.

Hi Marcus, first of all, thanks for your videos from which I get so much information, and man, your playing is…just perfect to my ears and very inspiring. I have a quick question : which model would you favor between this one and a Squier vintage mod V?
Oof congrats on ruining a classic with garbage pickups

Your the kind of bass player who controls the sound with the fingers, a bad sounding bass would probably sound ok in your hand haha. Cheers!!

Thx so much for your kind words. But I'm in strong believer of the principle of "fingers making the sound" indeed. All the best.

I use this in my cover band. One guitarist and I, have the Drop, the other guitarist has a Whammy DT. We go back and forth between standard and 1/2 step down. I tried making the setlists tuner friendly, before we used the Drops, but our singers eventually wanted to create the setlists how they wanted...ignoring any tuning changes. Yes, as the player, the latency is noticeable, as a crowd person listening, there's no noticeable difference. It's a tremendous help. We play 1 or 2 songs that we'll drop a full step. The pedal still handles that well enough. I don't think I'd use for anything lower than that, other than having fun. It does help to have tight string tension, so possibly using heavier strings can help. I do recommend the pedal for situations like mine. If you're looking for a more permanent detuned situation, set up another instrument. I have not tried any other drop type pedals, but if a better one comes along, I'm open to giving it a try.

Best version so far. Even with the 4 string only bass. It's packed but sounds still very smooth.

@@MichaelSchmittEleven Absolutely and well deserved. There are covers out there that are played 1:1 like the original, but sounds very robotic because of the lack of feelings. In your version I can hear that you had fun and loved playing it. Sooo... Und ich bemerke gerade erst an deinem Namen, dass ich auch in deutsch hätte schreiben können 😆

Mate, great video. To the point, great A/B. I have a set of 50-105 XL's on my Sandberg VM4 which I love, just wish they were a bit "sweeter" sounding with a little less stiffness, these might be the go. Love from Australia.
@MichaelSchmittEleven2 ай бұрын
I don't like the sound and feel of fresh strings neither. But the NYXL reach there sweet spot pretty quickly (for my taste). Thx a lot for watching and commenting, and greetings to beautiful Australia.

11:21 please describe what is boutique sound? What it is? About the bass it's the first run and are notorious for have a terrible fret job.. are you being paid to do this?
@MichaelSchmittEleven2 ай бұрын
This is the second series, and as you can see in the close ups, the fret job on the basses in this video is superbly done. For me personally, a boutique J Bass has all the genes of a traditional J, but with added high end sparkle and a very tight and pronounced lower mids frequency response. I don't get any money for my videos, and I bought the one with the Morado fret board with my own money. Thx for watching and commenting!

Hey Micheal, I just bought this bass because i wanted to start playing 5 strings. I have to say, the D string sounds really thin compared to a fender jazz. It lacks a bit off character... Any tips on how i can improve ?

Such an excellent review! Unfortunately, my recently purchased V5 has issues with how the tuners have been installed and is being returned, which is a shame as I love it 😢 However, a swamp ash V7 in white (the swamp ash grain looks insane!) has just come up for sale near me and I'm sorely tempted on the back of your review. Thank you for such a great demo of the tonal range.
