In trading, possessing technical analysis skills is not sufficient on its own; discipline and emotional maturity play crucial roles in achieving success. Embracing the mindset of "time in the market vs. timing the market" proves valuable, especially during market fluctuations. I attribute my growing daily earnings to Loraine Souvenir's valuable insights and daily trade signals, coupled with my commitment to continuous learning, managed to grow a nest egg of around 127k to a decent 532k. Kudos to the journey ahead!

So if schd is missing these top companies, why not just pair it with a growth etf? I’m thinking about shifting my portfolio to 30% VOO / 30% SCHD / 10% VTI / 10% VXUS / 20% Individual Stocks. Is this too complex of a portfolio?

Amazon has a high PE because they put 29% of their gross profit to R&D spend (technology and infrastructure). Microsoft puts about 17% to R&D. But regardless of value the question to answer is which company's business do you have the most conviction in?

Terrific buying opportunity IMO. Most of the top companies in SPY and QQQ are still growing earnings quarter over quarter and looking very sound fundamentally. The economy is actually looking very strong with GDP still growing. And unemployment/inflation numbers have been cooked for a looong time (about 4 years!). I think what we’re seeing are margin calls and the distressed selling of great assets due to the carry trade unwind and algorithmic trading piling on, increasing volatility. I’ll be buying all dips. And if we keep going south, my DGRW will get collapsed into my SPY holdings. And then SPY into QQQ. And finally QQQ into TQQQ if we hit -50%+. And if we go further down from there, I’ll be adding margin!

Any thoughts/perspective on index funds that exclude big tech? Like psychologically, avoiding volatility
@mattderron
@mattderron Күн бұрын
It really depends on what your goals are. Ultimately if you avoid volatility it also means you will avoid returns. If your primary goal is to not have volatility than maybe funds that focus on dividends could work. Honestly though, if you're investing for retirement over the long-term and don't want to worry about volatility I think the best course of action is to DCA into 1 or 2 index funds and simply ignore the news. Focus on ways to increase your income to increase your contributions over time and go live your life. The issue with removing volatility is that there's a good chance you won't be happy with the result in the end if you have a long time horizon. Easier and better to manage it within yourself by not paying attention to it. Hope that helps.

Obviously depends on your situation - but in general if you're working somewhere that does company match for 401k, I would recommend trying to contribute as much as you can to get the full match if possible. If you're just talking about additional investing outside of retirement funds though, then yeah paying down can be a good choice depending on interest rate / monthly payment and how it impacts your cash flow. My main point is - don't keep putting off investing if you can help it. In terms of gaining experience, what I usually tell folks is start with index funds and then allocate just a small amount for picking individual stocks assuming you want to do that. That way you're building a foundation regardless of any mistakes you make as you learn. Anyway, just my thoughts on it, good luck!

I'm glad you brought up about the Yen carry trade. That is something I've been keeping a watchful eye on since I trade futures along with my long term investing. Last night (Sunday) to the wee hours of this morning was quite fun shorting futures since the BoJ (Bank of Japan) has mentioned multiple times about raising their rates over the past year/months. Even I was surprised about the BoJ not intervening when the USD/JPY crossed above 150 and pushed to 160 until last night (Sunday) when they announced an increase to 25bp. Nikkei225 dropped 12%+ and on TOS /NKD dropped 8%+ so yes, it fun shorting /NKD Sunday night to the wee hours of this morning. I think today is a good day to buy for long term investments (I view this as a discount imo). Again, I appreciate how you brought up the Yen and BoJ since most finance youtubers are ignoring this other than highlighting about what Buffett did with his AAPL position and throwing the word recession around with no real data to back it up.

Eh Matt, I agree with you on Buffet, it is a bit like my META. I had 60 shares at 158CAD$ I sold 20 at 320CAD$, and then again 20 when it got to 400something. In insight I would have been better keeping all 60 but, who knew? I sold, I bought mostly VFV, VGT, INTL and MSFT not a horrible trade-off. I cashed-in and my current shares in META are free-to-me, my 3k$ expense is worth 13k$ I happy.. My main regret is that soon after I sold, META started paying dividends and META not paying dividends was the main reason I sold the shares. APPL, most definitely a buying opportunity in my book, especially after the debacle at MSFT exposing the risk of having their kernel open to the outside world. I have three calls for purchase: 10 @ 205, 10x @ 200 10x @ 195 U$D. As for the Yen it is the delta change that makes the difference, so yes all those traders having to edge their bets influences the stock prices but I see it as an opportunity because ... I am not a trader! Cheers, a.

Depends on your situation. If you need a regular income to live, then regular dividends are good. When the stock market blows out 20 or 30% in a month and 60% in a couple of years you're happy to get your dividends year after year. The cash you get from the dividends is real, the value of the share is just indicative until the day you sell. The stock market went down 20% in coupke of months ant it may get worse. Still got my dividends. Value is good when you need to grow your capital. Then dividend is good when you actually need the money. Especially if you're in country where the value of shares has not beengrowing for years if not decades.

I like your analysis here, especially of AMZN, I also added to my position in AMZN. I have been investing about 13 years or so, and your style of investing very much mirrors mine until 6 years ago or so. My biggest issue was I never kept enough cash to take advantage of market corrections, or over exaggerated stock selloffs after earnings. So, like you, I trimmed or sold out of other positions to fund my new buys. What I realized is I was always chasing something better, when in reality, the positions I help for the longest periods always out performed. So now, I carry about 12 individual stocks that I have absolute long term faith in, and I add new cash to my account monthly. I usually can find one of my current holdings in a dip or underperforming, and I add to that rather than buying something new. The biggest takeaway here, is once you have owned a company for years, you have a really solid feel for how its stock will react to different situations, and it becomes much easier to resist the urge to dump it on short term issues, rather add to it because you are confident its fundamentals are intact. Only major changes such as senior leadership or business model deviations cause me to question my ownership in that position. Resist the urge to interrupt compounding if you are confident in the companies you own would be the advice I would give to anyone based on my personal experience. I enjoy your channel and videos Matt.. Cheers
