I'm not sure about how it handles off road terrain. On the road it's a good motorcycle and better on city roads compared to bigger (in size) Adv's.

@@wheelsontarmac To start with I am not a cornering expert, so how it affects cornering , don't know . I did the mod for comfort , and it is comfortable. Damping I can clearly feel the difference going over a bump at 30-40 kmph, I don't have to clench my spine before hitting a speed breaker or undulations on road. Doing offroad is easier and confident for me now. Handling On handling side , the difference is not noticable. It may feel different for you due to your frame maybe, I'm 5.8 , 70kg the damping tht suits best is around 2-3 clicks on softer setting and stock preload setting, beyond that it becomes way to soft in comparison to front suspension setup and the peppy nature in 3rd gear is affected. With pillion and luggage on soft setting , it starts sagging too much , preload adjust works fine. Overall it's a comfort , not a performance tweak. If you ride single , no problems at all . If with pillion preload is the magic.

I am above 100kg myself. Plus i tend to carry lot of luggage including laptop and camera gear. I prefer using panniers too. Somehow i think 390x or 390 regular will be a better option for me than 250. Touring purpose.

@wheelsontarmac
@wheelsontarmac 17 күн бұрын
Some people are saying that it works well, whereas some are saying it's too bouncy to the level it's affecting the handling on road. I am yet to meet someone who has done it on their bike. My inferences are from the videos I have seen long back when I myself thought about it. I think you should research and watch at least 10 videos before you decide on changing the suspension.

If you feel like more power is important (you might feel that in highways) and would like to cruise in 120kmph constantly on highways, the 390X makes more sense. Also, if you're constantly riding with a pillion, the extra power will help in touring.

Bro decides to buy KTM adv 250, makes a video why he chose it, still criticises it everyday. Things he’s saying is correct not wrong, but when he chose it I feel it shouldn’t be criticised. KTM is made with the purpose of more power so the build quality is fibre and also to make it lightweight. You can’t expect an overall best bike. With best build, with best mileage with best power torque and other electronic features
@wheelsontarmac

I understood your point and I do accept that I chose it. I have decided to stick on to it. But, I firmly believe that, it doesn't stop me from mentioning the issues I face. These are put out there so people could know about the things. I do accept that everything cannot be perfect in everything. So, when there is a scope for improvement, shouldn't a brand be willing to fix minor things? Let it be fibre and lightweight, but all I mentioned was, it could have been properly placed in a way that it doesn't come off. Further, if some parts are just for aesthetics and has no aerodynamic influence, why bother to put it on the bike in the first place. I will continue to criticize it bro, not just this one, but any shortcomings I feel with any motorcycle or whatever I decide to review. I thank your honesty 👍

Is it beginner friendly? For someone transitioning from scooters? (I’m 24, 5’7, 65kgs and ride safely and maturely). I can ride a motorcycle but I consider myself a beginner. Will the KTM 250 ADV weight be a good first time motorcycle? Primarily for city commute (70%) and Highway Touring (30%)

Hi, I do believe that you can pull it off. There is a learning curve since you're coming from a scooter to a tall bike. It's good for beginners, but not exactly beginner friendly is how I would put it. I would highly recommend that you go for a test ride and if someone you know owns it, request them for a ride. Since you're a mature rider, I'm certain that you'll do fantastic and it'll only be a temporary (getting used to) issue.

Hey bro, How were the vibrations in the instrument cluster and windshield? Did they shake more at speeds above 95 and between 60-80? How was it. How about lighting through in nights How was seating comfort? How many kms can we travel without taking any pit stops
@wheelsontarmac
@wheelsontarmac Ай бұрын
Vibrations were not more than the usual amounts in high speed runs. For me, I experience more vibrations when I'm in a higher gear and slower speeds. There was no shaking of windshield. Lighting at night is ok and somewhat sufficient enough; but if you're out riding a lot at night, it could use with aux lights with a better sideways throw. Seating comfort is good for me, could use some add on rubber accessories, that can be removed. But, as mentioned in the video you can easily do 250-300 without rest. And I believe if you can push further, it can even stretch till 400. Hope this helps.

Bought this same bike 1 month ago. Coming to your points, I felt the same thing about refinement the day when I bought it. There was a buzz in the handlebar after 5k RPMs. Now my bike has done 1600 kms. The refinement issue is gone. The vibrations have reduced drastically after 1st service. Though the smoothness isn't in the same league as Hondas or Yamahas but certainly it is much smoother now. Coming to suspension, the default front suspension setting was hard. The Quickshifter which comes with this KTM's LC4C engine is a bit jerky below 5k RPM. After 5k RPMs it works like a breeze. I softened down the front suspension and now it's much more comfortable. If one wants a powerful 400cc which has a very comfortable pillion seat. This is a great choice. There is a lot of space for the rider as well to move around and one can easily do 300-400 kms trip on it comfortably. The only major downside of this bike is the tyres aren't tubeless.

@wheelsontarmac Yes, initially, I was taken aback as there were buzzing vibes in the handlebar, since I was upgrading from a FZ25. Now it has become much smoother as the buzzing vibes are gone. There are very slight vibes at 5k which don't hinder your riding experience. You can just feel them slightly. After 5k the engine becomes incredibly smooth and there are no vibes till 9500 RPM. Also I made the front suspension softer by 1 setting and it made a lot of difference. The suspension is neither stiff nor soft, perfect for Indian road conditions. I am getting around 27 kmpl in city and 32 kmpl on highways if ridden at 100 kph. Now the question is who should buy this bike? People who want Duke 390's performance but who aren't a fan of 390s aggressive looks and for those who want a powerful 400cc with a very comfortable rider and pillion seat. Wish it came with Tubeless tyres.

A nice mix of both with varying frequency would be cool! Wanted to know from you how you maintain the bike during rainy season. It's pouring in Bangalore and I kept my bike in the open for a couple of days, unable to go anywhere because of the rain and I see surface rust on the chain and some other parts. It's been almost a month having gotten the delivery of my Adv 250. It averages around 25-26 km/litre. Hopefully it improves after the initial service!

Thanks a ton for the suggestions regarding video content. I will definitely keep the points in mind. I'm really sorry, I was tied up with some personal things, so I couldn't reply to your comment on time. Rust on chain is common, if possible wash the chain and tap it dry so that the lube stays on and once a week, you can thoroughly clean the chain and lube it. On other parts you should be more careful. You can wash it with car wash and use sticky oil or grease and gently apply on the areas that rust easily. After you ride in the rain, wash the bike so that mud goes off (not necessary to do it daily) and tap to dry in the greasy portions and wipe the bike in other areas. Hope this helps. Also you can go for a motorcycle cover, if you are keeping the bike out in the open. A word of advice if you're in an area that has snakes, each time you remove the cover, do it carefully. Also cover it only after the bike is fully cold (to avoid reptiles or small animals; cos they'll be attracted to warmth)

Plus, I have no grudge against BMW; as mentioned in the video, I dislike the design of their cars of late. Please note that this is an initial ride impression only, not a review in any form. Since it is a test ride motorcycle, I don't have the liberty to use it on multiple terrains other than the designated ones. And I do agree 100% with you (no sarcasm - I'm very serious) that I need to learn a lot; which is precisely why I don't make reviews for short rides, also the reviews I post here are ride reviews.
