The VMC bands work ok but they break fairly easy. Best I have found for a stick bait is clear electrical shrink tubing. On Amazon for practically nothing. For the best hold put a screw lock into the stick worm, then the shrink tube. Put your hook through the shrink tube and the screw lock. Not perfect but better than anything else I have found. I caught hundreds of fish on a wacky this spring so tried a lot of things to keep from going through so many baits.

I've been using the VMC crossover rings for a couple years now and they work great for wacky rig and I also use it with the zoom trick worm and it all works great for me and catches fish

Great hook for mojo rig type baits …. Will pick some up.

Good video and thank you for the tips. It's one of my favorite baits as well. I have another technique, let it sink to the bottom, and drag it over rocky cover like a crawdad and let it stop briefly, and repeat. It resembles a fleeing crawdad especially with a good trailer. It's almost like the yo-yo, but more gentle, just lift a little bit to keep it just off the bottom, pause, repeat. You could almost say it's like a hybrid between your yo-yo and ripping techniques, only slower. Obviously, green pumpkin is a great color for this.

My Wife and I have been using the Crossover for over a year. Love these rings. Does it seem like some times you lose more stick baits, I don't feel like I lose any more than any other method. I do have the tool to use a smaller ring. The tool was only $16 and it was a good investment. Being able to wacky or neko rigging with the same band is nice.

I use a 6mm crossover ring in clear for senkos and they allow you to catch several bass on one senkos and the clear disappears on whatever color you put them on

Those weights are cool. I’ve been using a small piece of surgical tubing on my wacky rigs.
@rickjorstad666615 сағат бұрын
I have used them in the past and found that fairly often a fish that bites either end of the worm can pull the worm right out of the band pretty easily. I have switched to using shrink tubing and found that that worm is never coming off

If you use too big of a band and the fish grabs the end of the worm, you'll be bringing back in a hook and a band without a worm. Been there and done that.

I’ve been using the VMC wacky products since last year and they are awesome. What’s nice is you can switch from wacky rig to Nico rig just by moving the hook from horizontal to vertical hole

I bought my first chatter baits back when they first hit the market. I fished with them any time I was on the water for about a year and a half with no success at all. Not even a snag on a submerged anything that would give me hope. One day I was heading home from a local park pond fishing trip. I was fishing my way along the bank on my way back to the truck to head for home. I got a hit, finally. It turned out to be a decent sized bass. I got so excited that I turned around and walked back down the same bank and I got a second hit. This time it was a channel catfish. I never thought that a catfish would even hit an artificial lure. About fifteen minutes later I caught a second Channel catfish on a chatter bait. After that day it just seemed like I routinely started catching fish using my chatter baits. I've caught bass, channel cats and flathead catfish using chatter baits. I'm at a loss for why it took so long to actually catch anything at all while fishing a chatter bait. I must have just been holding my mouth the wrong way for a year and a half while fishing these chatter baits. instagram.com/p/CruHm8JPRZn/?img_index=1

I throw flukes a lot. I'm always looking for a better hook that has more bite (hook above the tie). I'll give them a try. What is Zmans soft jerkbait called? I've never tried them.

I use several Hayabusa style hooks cause they are better than others for certain styles. This 971 I agree will perform very well for all the reasons you mentioned. But I don’t have to wait for its release cause I started using Gamakatsu g finesse hybrid worm hooks last season and it’s the exact hook including the slick coating. The hook up rate is phenomenal and it seems to penetrate the mouth a bit farther back from the lips penetrating the hard cartilage.

It works well on the back of a swimjig tho. That's why a swim jig is so versatile. Craw, beaver, paddletail all work amazingly on a swim jig. Honestly anything works in the back of a swim jig in the right conditions
@TheTDH642 күн бұрын
I am too. Here in west IA our smaller ponds get grass ridden throughout summer like crazy and I always have the turbo fattyz rigged on a MH braid-fluoro lead and a swim jig tied onto my H rod straight braid and will switch that to a frog if they’re hitting top.

Great vid as usual. My question is, is the answer to the question of best bait in any month area dependent? For example, I break the USA into at least 3 areas...north, mid and south. Is it a different answer based upon the zones for the month?

Super glue and I don’t bond well. As a fly tier, I tie fluoro keepers on my EWG hooks at the 90. Works for both plastisol and Elaztech. While in the vise, the hook eyes are hit with UV resin just like the high end VMC hooks. No rough edges at the hook eye.
