Might be a silly question but(beginner here): once I start weaving,do I go under both warp strings or between them?
@everleayarn
@everleayarn Ай бұрын
For weaving tapestry you will go under one and over the next one and then repeat.

Hi Jenna! How should I go about doing colorwork in flat pieces where you have to purl one side and knit the other? Also, how would the process for three colours be? I am a beginner so I have too many questions sorry haha, but how should I add the second colour? I knit Portuguese style. Thank you so much!

can you double all notches
@everleayarn
@everleayarn 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Marty, if you want to triple warp the loom for 18 ends per inch, yes that would fill all the notches, but you want to use much finer warp in that instance as well as finer weft, otherwise you won't be able to achieve weft-faced fabric.

Hi Jenna, I do put both yarns around my neck. One from left to right -tensioned in my right hand, and the other right to left and tensioned in my left hand. Paper clip is a great idea. Always like cheap and cleaver solutions to problems.

I love that idea! I'll try that next time for sure. Thanks!

I'm finally at Chart 1C! Just starting, wondering about the size of your crochet hook and if it matters? I probably have one about the same size :)

Hi Jenna, thank you for sharing your paper clip secret! I have been experimenting with the Portuguese style combined with throwing, and variations on the theme. I’m looking forward to trying it with a paper clip. 😊 I also appreciate your focus on avoiding repetitive stress. I’m only managing about 2 rows of colourwork per day, but that’s because I’m slow, lol. Danielle

Hi Janna, I've started my colourwork! Can I just say that without your tutorials, I would probably be squinting at the photo of the finished shawl because I find the chart quite difficult to read. It seems overly complex. In fact I wonder if it's incorrect in parts because it tells us to "purl on the RS, knit on the WS" for those first and last 4 stitches. I have been knitting every row (lol). But part of the issue is I needed to print on a colour printer, now I see it on a screen and it is less impossible. One of the challenges is the 2 strands of yarn twisting together. I have tried holding them in different hands, with the background (CC1) colour in my right hand. That seems to work but I need to double-check I'm not doing some weird stitch with the CC3 yarn. :) Danielle

Am I right to think that “float” is the length of yarn on the reverse side of the colourwork, between stitches? I’m looking forward to seeing the Portuguese style! :]

Yes, that's exactly what I mean. Thank you! I will make a video this week showing that technique.

This is brilliant! I have made all sorts of looms, etc with PVC pipe, and was wondering how to introduce tension control in order to create a four selvedge situation. Came in here and, wheeee there it is. I already have everything but the rods assembled, because of earlier experiments. Thanks so much for an elegant solution.

I was wondering what kind of binding or tape did you use at the top of the finished back? The binding where hangers are located?
@everleayarn
@everleayarn 8 жыл бұрын
+Lana Stuart The first two in the pile are raw silk fabric scraps that I sewed into that shape before hand-sewing them onto the tapestry. The last one is a piece of leather cut to shape and then hand-sewn to the tapestry.

+Janna Maria Vallee Thank you for responding! I think that makes a beautiful finish. I have thought of using a fabric book binding tape for that purpose but am unsure of how the adhesive would react with the weaving materials. Your method is probably safer. Also - thanks so much for your videos! They are so instructive.

Thanks, really helpful! A suggestion, it would be helpful to see how you would finish a weaving that you were going to put a pipe or stick through to hang it up.
