Purling colourwork made easier with Portuguese techniques

If you are not a fan of doing colourwork on the 'wrong' side, or purl side of your knitting this video might be exactly what you need to get past that mental block! Make sure you try it before you knock it ;)
This is a demonstration of my two colourwork purling methods. The first method uses a combination of 'throwing' AKA English-style purling, and Portuguese-style purling to knit two colours, and the second method abandons 'throwing' and introduces a paper clip pin to purl two colours in Portuguese-style.

Hi Jenna, I do put both yarns around my neck. One from left to right -tensioned in my right hand, and the other right to left and tensioned in my left hand. Paper clip is a great idea. Always like cheap and cleaver solutions to problems.

Hi Jenna, thank you for sharing your paper clip secret! I have been experimenting with the Portuguese style combined with throwing, and variations on the theme. I’m looking forward to trying it with a paper clip. 😊 I also appreciate your focus on avoiding repetitive stress. I’m only managing about 2 rows of colourwork per day, but that’s because I’m slow, lol. Danielle

Hi Jenna! How should I go about doing colorwork in flat pieces where you have to purl one side and knit the other? Also, how would the process for three colours be? I am a beginner so I have too many questions sorry haha, but how should I add the second colour? I knit Portuguese style. Thank you so much!

Hello! I use the same set up as this video if I’m knitting Portuguese style. For three colours try setting up two colours going in opposite directions behind your neck and one colour hooked on a paper clip.
