I haven't played Nine Sols, but I'm not a fan, I really take visual style into account, and I simply can't stand this one, it looks so unnatural, and it's like there are two styles in this game; The character and the enemies, they are so bland and simple, they look like enemies rather than bosses, and enemies look like babies, and on top of that, it's gore, gore, and gore, you kill an enemy? gore, you kill a boss? gore, it's sickening, not to talk about the monstrous amount of bosses that beg you to kill them, it's kind of concerning about the creator, and the music? the first nine bosses don't even have it, and the rest is quite bland too, So that. I find this game to be an abomination to the same gender that Hollow Knight.

I think the complains about "too many dialogue and cutscenes" is somewhat a miscommunication between the creator and the player base. The game is 50% combat, 45% story and 5% platformer. To say that it's "not metroidvania" is definitely not true, but platformer is not quite the focus on the game as well. Red candle promotes Nine Sols as "Sekiro like metroidvania" , which the sekiro part did not lie, but players who joined for platformer game experience as promoted will likely feel underwhelmed. The story telling of Nine Sols are more direct in the form of cutscenes and dialogues, unlike metroidvanias like hollow knight which shows their lore through platforming. (exp: white palace) In the end, Nine Sols is not a bad game, not at all. But it's the difference in gameplay expectation that causes several players to be unpleased. IMO, the core of the game is the difficulties in battle and the story written. Like you said, it's more of a visual novel (or rather comic?) than a metroidvania, shall the game be LARGELY promoted as story based sekiro game + slight metroidvania, i think people will get their expectation right as the game works. But the dice had been casted and there's no way to pull back Nine Sols promotion. My personal suggestion will be that they release a update/ dlc which is platformer focused and allows player to skip dialogue and cutscenes in the game. (Red Candles do be working on consoles vers tho, this is gonna take a while)

As a major hollow knight fan, I can confirm this game is absolutely incredible. I’ve already played through with true Ending and it was amazing. The gameplay was difficult but fun and it had great story. Highly recommend checking it out.

Lots of 2d games with their own engine are made by one person. Honestly the best way to make a 2d game. Stardew, Axiom Verge, Celeste (Solo Programmer Only), Fez were all made by one guy on MonoGame which is a port of XNA which is the same Framework that Braid is made on.

absolutely ironic that i dont like silksong but absolutely love nine souls from what im hearing and seeing even tho its almost praticaly the same game just more complicated with more complicated world building i will definitely be giving this a try when i was younger i hated long unskippable dialogue now that im older i absoloutely adore it in certain games when its well done its almost as if im watching a movie being told :)

Ok so just clear some things up: the negative comments from around 2:43 - 2:52 mostly only criticize the content of the game, mostly complain of the game being too hard, no i-frames, etc. There was only one comment I saw which was purely review bombing but most of them were genuinely just stating things they thought were unpolished in the game currently. Please do some translation on these comments before sharing them, I get that it's public stereotype but still, show some love to Chinese gamers

I very much enjoyed the story and how it was presented. Not every Metroidvania needs to tell their story via item descriptions and not every one needs to tell it via cutscenes and dialog.
