I remember playing this game for the first time with my brother and I was SOOOOOO agitated with MIMIGA VILLAGE that I quit the game. For like 3 years cause I tried it again and oh. my. goodness it was amazing. I was so shocked by all this new stuff, and the Ballos boss fight was impossible to do for like 2 months

I will never forgot talking to all my friends at lunch in highschool after downloading cave story one weekend way back in the mid 00s. I told them how sad a certain character's story was, and that beating the game without her was the only downside of the whole adventure. They immediately informed me that there is a way end the game with her and i just missed it in my playthrough. I went home that day and immediately started a new game. I also remember having my mind BLOWN by the idea that the cave system is inside a flying island in the sky. The entire concept was way beyond my younger self's ability to imagine.

my first time playing Cave Story was Cave Story 3D and it's not that bad tbh but I agree that the regular 3DS version and CS Plus are way better versions of the game to play, especially now a days

I have a billion dollar idea for a cave story fan game. Anybody ever read the manga BLAME! ? Imagine a video game adaptation of Blame in the engine of cave story, the gigantic maps, the atmosphere, the fact that the two main characters are cyborgs, it all lines up perfectly. If i knew how to make this I would but I dont.

I still want to make Cave Story Story myself, its such an interesting idea to me. Hell, after my current projects, I actually plan on doing an unrelated turn based game so.. I might make some kind of mockup as practice. If anyone wants to wait like.. 10+ years for help from a beginner, I'd be totally down to form a team to take it beyond mockup.

Quite late to this video, not sure if you still hate the game lol. I think the hate on the character models is completely understandable, they look horrible. But the backgrounds I think they are pretty awesome most if not all of the time. They try to make sense of the random blocks of the original so that everysingle platform is explained in game for why it is floating, from statues of hands coming from the ground to ventilation systems going in and out of the background. But hey if you hate the ugly models so much you can play with the oldschool sprites ontop of the great backgrounds, a feature at first I thought was pointless but now it is my main way of playing this game. I love those backgrounds and I think it runs better too. I think an 60fps hd remaster of this game with better character models and more gameplay modes would be unironically pretty good. I honestly would prefer it over the remastered graphics of cavestory+, I've never prefered those over the original pixel art anyways. As a side note, I would say that this game has the only slightly playable version of hard mode, since it has all the extra life given to you at certain points by npcs while erasing the collectible hearts. I've always wanted a good balanced cave story hard mode and I hate that cave story+ only has the lazy masochist one hit kill mode. Not saying cavestory 3D has it but it is a lot more playable...

Okay, so i don't know if that's more of a secret or a glitch, but i've been grinding hard mode cave story lately, and right now i'm stuck in the last boss rush on the balcony. Earlier today, while fighting Misery, i've managed to kill her basically on the same frame i've died, and something strange happened. On my game over screen i saw that large energy crystal (the exp triangle thingy) dropped from her, which never happens normally.

I am playing Cave Story for the 2nd time and I am stuck at the Ballos Fight (I can manage to get to the second stage). I don't know if I will ever manage to beat Ballos. I think what makes it so challenging is that you get to the beginning of Hell every time you fail, making it difficult to learn each pattern of the stages of the fight against Ballos. I played trough "I wanna be the guy" and while IWBTG is more difficult in general, the last fight in Cave Story is harder than any boss fight in IWBTG.
