The Snake is an awkward weapon for me, because every time I get that far with the Polar Star it just feels like I may as well wait for the Spur.

I'm very new to the Cave Story community and I thought that Cave Story was a really obscure game. In fact, I was gonna make a weapons tier list video myself, but the community is more popular than I thought 😅

Bubbler should be low B imo, solely bcz it can deal damage from afar at level 3 (almost full screen, iirc). Makes it very useful for poking out enemies. You can also attack enemies from weird angles due to how the bubbles move, so you can damage enemies from impossible angles.

yall are sleeping on the snake. Snake has a TON of dps, can pierce enemies and walls, and has a chance to hit enemies TWICE. super good. you gotta learn it but once you do, its damage rivals a LV3 fireball. it shreds the sisters, too.

bubble 3 would be useful in hard mode playthrough when trying to get rid of the cockroaches at monster-X, trust me it's really good for that, and for hitting misery in the fight at the throne but the rest of the levels are very situational.

What i find noteworthy is that no weapon is truly awful or useless, except for the Polar Star ; but you have multiple occasion to trade it for beter, more interesting to use weapons.

I'm going to make my personal list, giving what my perception is. I am a fairly skilled player, played the game more than fifty times and even tried many mods. Almost completed the Iron Bond mod, that final secret boss is too fucking hard. Given this premise, this list will be fairly skill based and speedrunny: *S tier* Sword. It's just too good. Its damage is so high that it makes any other weapon pale in comparison, basically making them completely useless in any situation. Level 1? It does 15 dmg per hit. Lv 2? 18 dmg per hit, but travels less distance making it even better. Level 3? It changes completely purpose, horde based. The thing is, at level 3 it remains perfectly usable and it's even more comfortable in some situations (basically Misery, approacing her with the other levels is much more risky if you want to reach the max damage). It has the highest dps (ignoring the S. Missile) by far, and it shows. There is just no reason not to use it, it even starts from your back making it good whenever Machine Gun. This might feel very strange to many, but it brings to the table what no other weapon does: utility. From when you get it, to when you get the booster 2.0 it's indispensably useful. Thanks to it you can: easily and much more comfortably move in the Sand Zone, cheat the first room in the Labyrinth, cheat in the Booster room, take the exp shield (I can't remember its name) without backtracking (or damage boosting), make the jump out to the room in the waterways much more easily. It remains overall very useful throughout the rest of the game and with it you can just bypass the Outer Walls entirely. Also making the jump for the Nemesis just a breeze. I was just talking about the utility. In terms of damage, it's pretty good. It does as much damage as the fireball when both are at level 3 and in the Sand Zone the only place where the fireball is more useful is that one section you can just skip with the machine gun. The only reason I use the fireball against Toroko is because I don't want to de-level the Machine Gun *A tier* Super Missile Launcher. Its damage. It's not S because it has limited ammo and my bias towards limited ammo weapons. Given its speed, it's infinitely more useful than the normal version (only 2 projectiles at a time on screen. If they are faster, they despawn sooner you can use more of them thus doing more damage) Spur. It doesn't follow the exp system, making it very useful. However, it is simply inferior to the Sword in almost every situation. The Sword will always do more damage in every situation. There are only 2 situations in which the Spur is more useful: Misery and when you have low health. When you have low health, because in that case you can retreat and attack from the distance. Despite being outdone by the sword, you could switch that up and it that case it will just be a perfectly serviceable weapon, the best in your arsenal easily for its traits and always being at its strongest. The thing about it is that it does not have that high dps. It can make one big fuck you shot, but against tankier enemies you will need to be much more careful. Incredibly powerful, but with it having linear bullets kinda limits it a bit in my eyes. It's still gonna easily be your best weapon in every scenario (this kinda applies to every Polar Star trade weapon), bar the sword of course Snake. It's easily the worst switch option. However, it's not a bad one. Ignoring the Sword, this will still be the best option in your arsenal. The best thing about it is his damage capabilities. The thing is... it's incredibly spammable. It has pretty long range and you can basically put up a wall of projectile that will kill anything in front of you, and each single hit does 8 damage, which is really good. It just has a really high dps, probably higher than the spur. About the fact that it passes through wall... it's cool. NOt incredibly useful outside the labyrinth, and even there other weapons can just ignore it and do the same thing. I personally kind of find its snake like movement annoying, but it doesn't bring this weapon down. Amazing and very creative. *B tier* Fireball. Very good in the Bushlands, basically a replacement for the Polar Star from when you get it to when it's replaced (either the Machine Gun or the Sword). It's the best weapon where the terrain is irregular. Eveything you already said Nemesis. I don't consider it bad because you get it in exchange for the sword. It's just that I never find a suitable situation for it. The only place I find it useful on myself is against the Doctor, in both forms. WHy? Because that's the only situation in which there won't be enemies that can give experience. Maaaaybe Misery. I feel like it makes the game straight up harder. You not only need to avoid enemies to, you know, avoid damage, you avoid experience/have to change weapons constantly to not do less damage. And what if you get experience? Well, your only option it to get hit on purpose or to just fuck it and switch weapon. It's not even thaaat spammable. There are max 2/3 shots on screen at a time. Still, it's enough to make devastating damage It does great damage at level 1 (12 dmg sweetspot), good at level 2 (8 dmg), but a smaller hitbox, and then there is lvl 3. When do you all use this weapon? I just never find a use for it, Curly does an incredible job with it. I let her use it in my stead Bubbler. Lv 1 is shit. Lv 2 is pretty ok. Lv 3 is pretty cool. THe only defensive weapon in the game and can create a legit barrier of projectiles, which is pretty usefull in the lower part of the Sand Zone and somewhat in the labyrinth. I find this weapon incredibly useful for newbies of the game who have yet to master the controls, some friends of mine played Cave Story last month for the first time and they just wouldn't change weapons almost just for how comfortable they were with it. It also needs very little exp, which is cool Missile Launcher. It's more of a boss weapon, however it has one massive annoyance: it can have only 2 shots at a time on screen, meaning you HAVE to be pretty much as close as you have to be with the Sword, but with explosions blocking your visuals and slower projectiles. Against normal enemies... I just never use it against them. Only against the big Jelly, simply because one of the 3 missiles will hit them and make them get close enough to me so I can clobber it with other weapons. It's good in mid-long range, but I still tend to not bother using it much. *C tier* Polar Star. Yeah. IT's just the worst one. It's canonically incomplete. If something is good because it's your only option, it's not necessarily that incredible. As soon as you get the Fireball it's immediately outclassed. The lv 1 fireball does the same damage as the lv 3 Polar Star. What many don't know is that actually EVERY weapon has a screen limit. However, this is disguised by the projectile speed. So theoretically, every weapon will do much more damage up close. This also needs to be considered, which is why the Sword is the best weapon. It's the best and more focused where every weapon is at its best. Simply put, by being close every weapon will just hit more times, thus making more damage. i'd put the super rocket launcher at s tier you can shred the doctors first 2 phases and then have enough health to do the final battle. the polar star i think is very helpful but yeah when you get further in the game the rest of the weapons overshadow it. still though i would put it top of c tier

Bubbline is so useful as well in the second room of the hell run. Kills the angels with two bubbles and you can almost ignore them if you have a protective bubble "shield" up

And tbh, the Super Missle Launcher at Level 3 feels like Speedrun Material when it comes to fighting Ballos

I mostly use level 2 and 3 spur for it's piercing abilities. Max spur takes a little too long for me so It's mostly for bosses I can't always hit.

So, playing on hard mode, the bubbleline I'd put at maybe B tier but no higher. It's an amazing shield. That said, it does fall off hard after Sandzone. But it's still useful during quite a few situations. Especially against Monster X.

i would put the nemesis in B or C cause its really easy to get it leveled up by accident, and the only way to downgrade it is by taking damage, and at that stage of the game you easily get damaged by 5 or 10

I loved the nemesis during my first playthough as I wasn't good (and still somewhat am) terrible at dodging so it more often than not stayed at level 1 and used it to shred Misery and the enemies I'm the sanctuary

I didn't even know most of these existed! The only ones I ever got were Polar star, missile launcher, fireball and blade! I just found out how to get bubbline but I'm already at running hell so I can't exactly go back and get it.

I would prob bump the Machine Gun into A. You can have it for a vast majority of the game. I also saw a speedrun where you can combine the level 3 hover with a small booster dash to keep the Booster speed while floating, its insane.

I would put Snake higher. Idk why you would say it should be on a lower tier just cause it's weaker then ML, but put MG over ML. I think Snake is honestly better than MG, and is useful right up until Heavy Press at worst (very useful in Hell). I also think FB got wanked a bit to be higher than all PS trades and right up next to SML, especially when you said you're problem with the Snake wasn't even trading in the FB. Hell, the FB and Bubbler honestly have a lot of crossover (as a FB hater and Bubbler lover). Both FB and Bubbler are situational weapons/early-mid game crutches that fall off. I would also say the Polar Star is okayish for just being old reliable, but that's not saying much. And no mention of the 98 Ammo ML in Hell? I like to go the whole game not worrying about ammo till the end when I get 98 missiles. All my opinions on your opinions aside. Great list and vid! Maybe I've been playing this game wrong, but I feel like the Polar Star is a reliable weapon as a backup hahaha Whenever I ran out of missiles and the fireball doesn't help with floating enemies, the Polar Star is a great way to deal damage at a medium-range and get those EXP back to the others weapons Except if I get hit with the Polar Star and downgrade to Lvl. 2 or 1, in that scenario I'm f*cked hahahaha

my tier list: S: machine gun A: spur, blade, nemesis B: bubbler, fireball, super missile launcher C: missile launcher, snake, polar star my normal weapons route for the good ending: i dont pick up the rocket launcher. ever. this way, i only get xp and health drops from enemies throughout the game i get the bubbler (i only use this to clear squids in waterway) i trade the polar star for the machine gun i trade the blade for the nemesis i defeat the bosses using almost exclusively the machine gun, until i get the nemesis. you may think that missing out on the high-damage weapons would make bosses harder, but with a level 3 machine gun most of the boss patterns are avoidable with enough hovering skill. plus every area is SO much easier to traverse while hovering

I know this is like 3 years old, but the chapters would be better if they were based on when you talk about the weapon rather then just when you drop them into the tier list.

How i Feel about these Weapons: Blade: Awesome! Decent Damage even at Lvl. 1, Lvl 2 is a bit underwhelming due to the Shorter range, But Lvl 3 is Pretty wlaweaome for Wide Area of Effect Damage. Bubbler: Kind of fun to use, But Only Swap to it at Lvl 1 just to Upgrade it to 2. At Lvl 3, I find it works well as a defense weapon, as the bubbles can catch projectiles, then just unleash the fire button for a decent damaging Bulletstorm in the direction you're holding down or facing. Fireball: I like it a lot. Easy Hill or Slope Navigation, long distance on the ground, good for dealing large damage just spamming shots. Can't be used to take out air enemies that well, But Ground Enemies are more fun to deal with. Mchn Gun: Pretty Good, Like that Lvl 3 lets you use it to get to tricky places. Makes me wish it had diagonal aiming XD R. launcher: Not bad, But I never really found myself needing to use it often, if at all. I just prefer to Ignore it until i get to later stages, sometimes avoiding it until late game to make use of the Extra Health Drops. Polar Star: Decent Starting Weapon. Ill leave it at that. Snake: . . . Eh. Super Rocket: The only reason ill pick up the Launcher.

Bubbler saved my ass on multiple bosses while on hard mode. I can't defeat barlfrog without it on hard! I prefer to use it in short bursts, It's like a shotgun, inaccurate but bullet spread destroys enemy projectiles. And deleveling it isn't an issue on hard, because you just die from every touch

Nah dog, this list is wack S Tier: Nemesis, Snake, Super Missiles A Tier: Blade, Spur B Tier: Machine Gun, Fireball, Missiles C Tier: Bubbler D Tier: Polar Star Spur is kind of a trap. Yes the charge shit does a lot of damage but you have to run around dodging for the entire charge time, instead of doing damage in the moment. Fireball falls off pretty quickly after you leave the Sand Zone and having that extra, weak weapon taking up space in the last stages & Hell is just not worth it. Never will I level it up over using the exp for S.Missiles. Nemesis shoots crazy fast, has great range & damage, and allows you to maintain DPS while getting damaged which no other weapon can. Great for moving quickly. I love Bubbler myself but it is never as good as I want it to be, your C-rank is appropriate. Missiles, like Blade can be fired again as soon as they're off screen so they're just as spammable and do loads of damage, esp at level 3. Like you said, Machine Gun is only bad compared to what you can get for the Polar Star instead. If I could trade Bubbler for it, it'd make the cut
