The Milan family use gallery wrapped canvas, which is a relatively new concept, because their work is purely decorative. I have yet to meet a genuine fine artist, much less a master, who uses gallery wrapped.

Thank you for the comment, what do fine artists and masters use for canvas or other substrate?

@@cherylannhunterart2023 They stretch their own linen or heavy cotton over medium or heavy duty stretcher bars and tack it on the side edge. The edged will be covered by the frame.

Isn't that the same as the gallery quality linen canvas that comes pre-stretched and mounted on wood? I use cotton canvas mounted and sealed that I purchase from suppliers. Even if I made my own as you've described, isn't it the same thing? If not, how is it different? Thank you.
@richardnolan3903Күн бұрын
@@cherylannhunterart2023Most store bought canvas is made with very cheap, light-weight cotton duck. There's nothing wrong with using them when you start out painting, but if you're serious about your art and want it to last, it's better make your own canvases with linen or #8 cotton canvas. There are a few companies that make high quality, archival stretched canvases but they're very expenses and come in limited sizes.

Honestly, prepping your canvases, properly if you are using acrylics, will save you a lot of pain, time, and actually a lot of paint. Do several at the same time so you can just pick one up when you get an urge to just paint. If you have canvases that you don't want to use because they have dents/creases in, then spray the backs with water and those creases will disappear like magic.

Thank you so much, I appreciate the tips and suggestions. I think I am going to return to my old way of painting, trying to emulate others has not improved my work at all. I used to gesso every painting, acrylic or oil, and I like those old paintings much more than what I've done this year.

Hi Cheryl! I am also on part 3 of the program and at the same stage of process as you... Keep painting, improving my skills and trying at the same time to figure out my voice and style. Of course I would love to be selling my art at some point but since I also am at very early retirement stage working as a professional artist is not my ultimate goal. My main motivation is to do the best artwork possible I can. I also dislike preparing canvases with gesso....😀 For me, collage and modelling paste helps a lot to give nice and interesting texture without the need for extra prepping the subtrate. Love your open and relaxed style in the video!!! ❤

I imagine that the people who post negative comments to you are envious because their own artistic journey is blocked or stuck, somehow. I have seen amazing artists who have shown their early work and, by their own admission say, it 'wasn't very good'. All they did to become incredible artists, was to learn technique, learn from their mistakes, and practise, parctise, practise. It's all there inside of you. You have it. Just Keep Going.

I'm a beginner too and am interested in portrait painting. My online instructors, not Milan Institute by the way, have been painting for over 25 years. No beginner artist in any art program can match 25 years experience of the instructors. I have learned to be easy on myself and just enjoy what I am learning. And by the way, my online courses are expensive as well. If eventually, I get to the point whereby I could do a portrait on commission, that would be fabulous. I'm 70 years old, I am just reveling in the journey of challenging myself to paint, that is what makes me so happy.

Hi Cheryl, I am also in my production week. I understand the process for finding your voice or style, as I have struggled so I have just painted what I enjoyed with a bit of mixture of styles. I am retired and have been fortunate to spend a great deal of time getting through the work at Milan. I just keep painting and I know that my style will evolve but I can say I have learned so much and my paintings have changed with the addition of the techniques that I learned. Congratulations for making this far and maybe we will finish at the same time. Good luck.

I have not done the Mastery Programme, but I have been painting as long as Elli and looking back at my life as a self-taught artist (a long an winding road that has left many gaps in my artistic abilities), I can understand why the course is structured as it is. I believe it is truly an excellent system to put you through your paces as an artist, but speedily. Wish I had such an opportunity years ago.
@cherylannhunterart202326 күн бұрын
Hello, and thank you for commenting. I have learned a few new things from the program, but I think it is the fact that I have challenged myself to take the course and give it 100%, finishing and then continuing with a good work ethic to develop my style and voice is the real benefit.

I’m wondering why people love ravens. It says that they are opportunistic, intelligent, a spiritual , and Godlike bird. Does this apply to you?
@cherylannhunterart202326 күн бұрын
Their intelligence is one of the fascinating things about ravens. The reverence of many different cultures through the ages (including my Celtic ancestors) for these birds is another.
